Great video. Thanks. I have just signed up to find a petsitter for a 2 mo vacation this summer. After 3 days I am very impressed with this site. I have gotten 10 applications so far to sit with my pets. I live in a resort town. I do not expect the sitter to be with pets 24/7. I would hope they would enjoy where I live has to offer

Just need some advice. My family is PCSing/Military is moving us to Chicago for work. We own a home there but our stuff is not there. We are traveling for about a month. The downside is the house will be pretty much empty of furniture and stuff. So someone could stay there but nothing but the cat, it’s food, and whatnot will be there…
@roadjesstraveled2 жыл бұрын
@@aaronmarkham4424 Hello! I am not seeing a question here, are you asking if you can have a sitter stay there to care for your cat? That may be a hard sell for most people. I would be very clear in your listing and offer to provide a blow-up bed etc. Good luck with the move and thank you/ your family for your service!
@Salouaibaline2 жыл бұрын
@@aaronmarkham4424 are you looking to have a house sitter in your empty house? I wouldn’t recommend it. The house sitter often works from home and having wifi and a home setup is important for the sitter and your pet. That’s my opinion 😉

I am a Trusted Housesitter and I have had 3 good experiences with sits so far. I have been to Virginia, Rhode Island, and a local sit in Albany, NY. I only have sat for cats and find that it gives me time to explore the area and get out a bit. I would suggest if you have particular needs, you should ask about them ahead of time. I had one sit where a litter box was in my bedroom and the "bed" was a very hard and narrow daybed. Meanwhile, the owners had a king size bed that sat untouched except for the cats sleeping on it! I can understand why people don't like strangers sleeping in their bed, but if I had a guest or free sitter, I would want them to be comfortable!

Thank you for the video! It was quite helpful. A question... I completely understand that caring for the pets and plants are part of the deal, but have you found time to explore a little of whatever area you’re in? Do you ever suspect that an owner has placed hidden cameras and spies on you? (Not that I would do anything shady whatsoever!) Is most of your experience just you housesitting alone? Do you ever feel safety is an issue? Thank you!!
@roadjesstraveled3 жыл бұрын
I've never heard of a "nanny cam" situation but that doesn't mean it's not possible! There are always crazies out there so you have to use your best judgment. As far as time away from the pets, it really depends on how high maintenenced they are. If they need walks (eg. dogs) 2-3x a day, day trips may be tricky. If it's something like a low maintenced cat, then you can probably get away.

Hi Jess, thanks for the vid. I’ve done quite a few house sits on my travels and enjoyed them, but was recently wondering about the legal rules as I heard of someone being turned back to their home country at the airport as they didn’t have a work permit to house sit? My research has shown that as long as it’s an unpaid sit for less than 30 days international sits are classed as a holiday exchange and perfectly legal, but may be it’s a grey area in some countries? I’ve seen some house sit websites suggest becoming friends with the home owners first so that you can state you’re visiting friends at airport arrivals to save complications. Any thoughts on this please? Cheers, Dee.
@roadjesstraveled2 жыл бұрын
I wish I had a concrete answer for you but it would vary country to country. I would just do a quick Google search on their laws. OR, (a little shady but) you could just tell the agent you are visiting as a tourist.
@deeleerambles2 жыл бұрын
@@roadjesstraveled Yes, it’s definitely a grey area. I’ve yet to find any specific rules on it, although some volunteer websites like wooff state that unpaid volunteering for less than 30 days falls under the permitted activity category as long as it’s not the primary reason for visiting a country, so maybe HS can be classed as a kind of volunteering? Also if you’ve become friends with the homeowner before hand, via email, vid chat Etc.. it’s visiting friends on vacation… I just think some of these HS websites should give people a heads up as they make it sound so simple, but most countries expect tourists to fill out arrivals forms regarding why they’re visiting and where they’re staying Etc.. if they innocently declare they’re there to HS they could be sent home, to sit their own house! Lol!

I'm from Portugal and want to apply to a long term sitting (more than 6 months) in a different European country. How do I get an authorization to stay in a foreign country long term? Do trusted house sitters help with that? I can't find this information anywhere. Thanks.
@FrugalTravellers3 жыл бұрын
Hi Raquel. We are currently house sitting in Portugal and loving it! I saw your question and thought i could help. If you are travelling within the EU then you can stay in EU countries long term without a visa. Technically after 90 days you should register as a resident but that is a formality that most EU citizens don't bother with. For other countries you may have to apply for a longer stay visa. Depends on where you are going. Best of luck.

It all depends on your agreement with the home. If they are gone for a few days and need a sitter then it’s a few days. If they are gone for a few months then it can be a few months. TH has no maximum duration.

Is there lots of demand for sitters or is it highly competitive? I have zero experience with pets but I always loved them, would I still make a chance?
@roadjesstraveled3 жыл бұрын
you apply and they can see your experience / reviews, then they use that information to choose who they want to housesit. If you want a good chance to get some awesome stays in cool houses and desirable locations, I would start with less desirable ones (during the week near where you live, maybe in a "meh" nearby city, etc) to get some good reviews then keep working your way up. They are naturally inclined to choose someone with the most great reviews and experience. if you know how to care for a less common animal (birds, rabbits, etc) then you should play that up in your application if someone has one of those animals.You can also request reviews from those outside of the site, so if you've housesat for a friend you can ask them to leave you a review for your applications. Hope this helps!
