I took this video to mind when purchasing my 2018 outlander 650 max. It’s everything you mentioned. Now 2 years old and 9500 km later, just a couple minor issues like rear diff seal, and starting switch. I added 1” spacers, 2” lift, larger tires and rad relocate. I have really nothing negative to say and Not once have I ever said to myself I need more power. Thanks for your honest review. My next purchase will most likely be an 850 max in the next couple years just because.

I was kinda worried about buying a can Am, because their forum is nothing but horror stories. I bought a max 1000r max XTP because the wife likes to ride and we wanted more room. I have had a year now, and we love it. It is a very nice, solid machine. I can't tell you how much of joy it is to ride. I love it and it has converted this Honda man for life.

Zero Horror stories from both my kings. 7000km on wifes 500 and 9400 km on my 750. I drive it hard. Brakes changes and fluids. That's it. I had to snorkle my clutch though. They sit to low in the rear of the kings.

How do you find having a MAX model VS a regular length model? I want the MAX but we do a lot of tight trail riding and I wonder if it can be just too long at times.

I have an 800 Can Am. It is a very good machine. But here are six complaints you missed; 1) When driving on a reasonably smooth road, the passenger seat is fine for the passenger. But if there is a lot of abrupt up and down motion, such as dropping into deep ruts or in and out of ravines, the high seat back restricts the passenger's ability to 'give' with the bump. By restricting motion of the lower back, this in turn transfers more jarring motion to the passenger's upper back and neck. 2) I have tracks, and this is where the heat REALLY becomes a problem. Even when it is snowing, if I sustain a hill climb even at a modest speed and on packed snow, heat from the exhaust pipe near my thigh actually melts the fairing plastic to the point that it drips liquified plastic. Wrapping the exhaust pipe with heat tape is a must. 3) When driving in really slick conditions, Can Am's Viscous front clutch is no match for the locking front differential found in Polaris, Arctic Cat and others. The front wheel with the least traction spins way too much before the viscous system transfers any power/torque to the other wheel. 4) The floorboards are supported underneath by aluminum bars which protrude down enough to catch rocks and sticks that get kicked upwards. The rocks make a loud, annoying bang as they are batted away. However, sticks occasionally get kicked up such that one end is captured between the aluminum rods and floorboard while the other end gets wedged into the ground. The result is that twice, a stick has speared its way THROUGH the floorboard, breaking it, and kicked my foot up off the floorboard. Had I been going fast it could have impaled my foot or leg. The solution is to mount a skid plate that runs the full width of the floorboard. However, the downside to this is it further reduces ground clearance, which is not great to begin with. 5) Can Am's listed ground clearance is exaggerated, in particular between the front wheels. I also own a Polaris ATV. Although both state 11 inches, the front of the Can Am has quite a bit less. On roads strewn with larger rocks the Polaris consistently clears what the Can Am hits. 6) The Can Am weighs a lot less than a Polaris, which is good. However, one of the ways Can Am reduces weight is by using a trailing arm suspension at the rear. On very rough, rocky terrain, the trailing arm suspension is quite a bit harsher than the A-arm independent suspension found on all the other full sized quads. Can Am should adopt the A-arm suspension at the rear

I have pulled Elk deer Logs trailers and all kind of thing with this thing. We have even named him Buddy.. he runs great and will be the last one I own. I will keep him running as long as I can and hand him down in the family.. Very nice.. Long wheel base is much better than the short.. Very Nice ...

No I sold it after I test drove a CFMOTO. The outlander max was a good machine had a few issues with it. It all depends on what you are going to do with it. If you are into riding in deep mud then ya the outlander is what you will want. If you are looking for a touring machine then take a look at CFMOTO. The ride of a CFMOTO is more comfortable and the machine really holds up to every day abuse.

Please do yourself a BIG favor and stay with Honda, l bought a new 2014 650 Outlander and a week after warranty was off with only 300 miles on it, it started giving electrical trouble. First it wouldn't turn over and the micro chipped ignition switch failed, bought a new one, than the 4wd wouldn't shift in and if it did than it wouldn't shift out, than the headlights quit, traced that back to the same ignition switch that doubles as the head light switch. Rather than lay out another $150 l put another set of lights on the rack. It has always been kept inside and has never went "mud bogging" it is my wife's quad and she doesn't loan it to anyone. It still only has 900 miles on it and has been nothing but a pain in the butt. Sorry l couldn't have warned you sooner, hopefully you haven't already bought one of these yellow nightmares.

@@allanwheel4648 I appreciate your input. I haven’t bought yet but I’m leaning towards the Honda for reliability. My only problem with Honda is the horsepower. I will primarily be using mine for hunting, but I would like good power in the event that I want to trail ride or go mudding. I think the 650 would give good power for that and would handle a lift and bigger tires as well. But I may just be overthinking it.

that's good to hear, you have had a good experience with your machine. a lot of reviews ARE CRAPPY about can am. big money fixes over stupid stuff. I have a 2019 Outlander max two up 650. I'm just a trail cruiser that putts around to check out the view nothing crazy. I put 200.6 miles on it in one year, with around 48 hours of engine time. My machine said hi temp limp mode. That is just sad. Fan is bad it's in the shop. My winch clicks and dont work at times. Warn sent me a new solenoid. I paid $11,500 for this and for it to be over heating this soon is ridiculous. I bout my daughter a 2020 outlander 450 and if she has issues with others I'm going back and riding honda again. I bought can am because it looks better than other brands. Mine dont look good in the shop. Crossing my fingers.

I sell used ATVs for a living, I know you are leaving out important details. It doesnt matter if it polaris can am yamaha or honda that you are driving you shouldnt have that those issues within the first year. Your winch issue is related to corroded batteries, which doesn t happen from poor build but rather the natural elements getting inside. It maybe be from snow or salt on roads or you leaving it out in the rain.

The brakes suck and the digital display failed as well as the power steering. Any suggestions on the brakes? The power if awesome and the ride is great but the brakes have been horrible. The dealer says it’s where I ride but I ride at my farm and don’t do heavy mud bogging. So I’m confused. Suggestions welcomed.

So how does that back seat come off?
@kate7580
@kate7580 4 жыл бұрын
super easy, it is a leaver inset in the lower back of the seat, pull it and then tilt the seat forward a bit, then pull back to disengage from the forward anchor point. Takes 5 seconds. You then grab the "Glove Box" and snap it right in with the LinQ system and you are good to go.

Malvern Michael you gotta rock with it some. And when mine won’t shift gears I just rev it to a little over 1000 rpms (my clutch doesn’t engage until around 2500) and then once it dies down I shift. Or when it won’t go from high to low I put it in low when it still doesn’t read low on the board and give it a little rev and it pops into gear fine

This visco lock debate is an interesting one...every single can am ive ever ridden has locked the front wheels more than fast enough to get me out of very tough situations...im guessing these people complaining about the visco are people that install 30" extreme mud tires and a lift kit and expect the system to work just as good...obviously thats never gonna happen, thats not what the system was designed for..

So now you are telling me that a Can-Am Outlander 1000R XMR would beat a Can-Am Renegade 1000R in mud? The renegade is arround 100kg lighter than the Outlander XMR
@mrjay4000
@mrjay4000 6 жыл бұрын
You would want the Renegade MR version which on the Renegade really stands for Mud Relocator-on rider! So wear a rubber suit if you don't like being covered in your own roost. LOL! I used to be all about less weight on 4x4 quads but there all heavy after 600lbs. With the same tires, I'd say Its a coin toss between the two. Lighter does'nt always win especially for deep swamp water the newer Outlander 1000xmr is the longer (and heavier) max chassis for a reason, so it can go deeper as long as you keep the nose in the air that is. Lighter quads want to float more in the deep water thats where wheeling through it is the key and the rear tires are really doing the propelling.
@Anonymous159951
@Anonymous159951 6 жыл бұрын
I guess but wouldn't that mean that the front would hardly even lift up in water because of the weight?

Destroy It Thats why it has 1000cc to keep wheelying. The 850 would do it too if in a max chassis. I will still stay away though. Poor turning radius and I do allot of bush riding too...

Can-Am sucks when you start to push it in the mud no matter what you do to it belt slips too much The cover floods way too much and did I mention they use the same exact rear differential and gearing for everyone except the 1000 and the 6x6. the rear differential break so much it costs more replaced then the bike is worth after like 3 years of replacing them and they are only three wheel Drive their front differential just sucks no matter what

Can am outlander 650 is a piece of junk. Electrical issues ever since it was off warranty with only 300 miles on it, ignition switch failed,headlights don't work, 4wd only engages when it feels like it and than won't disengage. This quad has never been on mud rally, lt is driven primarily by my 60 yr old wife puttering around the farm. Hate to say it but only a few days after buying it l wish l had stayed with Honda. Unless you love frustration do not buy a Can Am.
