Robin, thank you for being you. I've gotten so much from your videos. My question is about taxes that fund the millitary. What about protecting our country from those who would hurt us? Shouldn't we be funding military for that reason. I mean the freedom that we have in North America is a privilege. Shouldn't we be protecting that beautiful freedom of choice we have to be who we are from those who would do harm to us?
@ourmobilehomemakeover662Күн бұрын
How much money does the military get? How much is needed? What do they actually do with the money? Who benefits and who is hurt? The simple idea that we are (or could be) in danger is an easy way to justify everything the US military does. Is it possible that the situation is more nuanced than that?

Very inspiring. I have strive to live more sustainably and feel that many people find me quite extreme, I however feel that I am barely scratching the surface. I am inspired to keep making those changes. I wonder if Robin has come across Diogenes. A Greek philosopher and follower of Socrates, that gave away all of his possessions and lived in a wine barrel (supposedly). A controversial figure who went much further in his rejection of ‘society’. I would be interested in Robin’s thoughts about the character Diogenes…

I'm living in a tiny appartment, with a tiny tiny balcony. And living off social benefit (I'm 62). What about growing my own food? It's impossible to do this on my balcony because of wind and too much sun. What about food, like dumpster diving? In the Netherlands all these dumpster are behind bars and locked, so no way you can reach them. It;s also an obligation to have insurances , especially health insurance. If you don't want that, you still have to put your money in some sort of deposit. Bank accounts is obligated when you are on social benefit. Everything has to be paid from your bank account. It feels very restrictive, but I don't know how to change that.

baking soda is good deodorant replacement. But honestly, this is the American problem that you are solving. Upside down society. I was born and raised in Ukraine and people with less money are living like you are not by choice but by necessity. Social Security in Ukraine is around $60 a month but prices are about half of what it cost in the USA to eat but some prices are even higher. Well then, people wash and reuse plastic bags. And, lol, they do not have credit cards. Investments? Wow, you are doing well for yourself. Anyways, I understand you as I am early retired CPA that are planning to live in my small van because I prefer it this way but....I am not even near those poor Ukrainians, I have a choice.

Hey Rob..Good luck in your life journey. In one of your videos, you mentioned about gandhi and RamDas. Both of them spoke and lived the life of truth. Ramdas followed the teachings/message by Neemkaroli baba, who spread the message of god in the form of love for others. Did you get a chance to look deeper in indian philosophy? there are broadly 4 ways through which you realize truth: knowledge, work, devotion and meditation. My question is: will non ownership lead to non attachment? you might not own it but you might still be attached? you might practice non ownership of things..what about ur thoughts, your desires( good or bad). who owns them? who are YOU?

Instead of wasting your time and teaching rich LA people to live sustainable, why don't you travel the world to see how people in small villages are living. They do not live like Americans. You grew up in this American bubble and now undoing the American brain washing, from one extreme to another. No need. My dad lives in Ukrainian country side, collects rain water, grows his food, very sustainably, eats only local, no trash because there is no trash pick up service, he uses cloth bags that he made himself from old sheets etc. But he does have an old Lada car made in USSR in 70s that is very basic and he can fix it himself easily. So, what you are describing as a revelation to you is absolutely irrelevant to most of the world. I like what you are doing, but I am curious if you have seen the rest of the world that certainly does not live like US.
@sweetlampe2 күн бұрын
Yes lots of people have left cities too and live like villagers, off grid etc.But they’re not Activists like he is.🙂
@natureloversadventures73352 күн бұрын
@@sweetlampe Yes, I agree. What I am trying to point out that this is a very very American problem created by capitalism and greed. Other countries have these types of problems but not near as bad as USA has it. I have been living in the USA for 24 years. I never accepted American wasteful culture, I never liked it really. I never ate out, it is expensive and unhealthy, I bake my own bread with my sourdough starter, make my soap, collect my herbs and use baking soda instead of deodorant. I do not use any make up, I cut my own hair, no perfume, no mani and pedi. This video reminds me of raw vegans that used to eat McDonalds, smoke and binge drink and then, o miracle, they are raw vegans. From one extreme to another. I realize human body limitations, we are not part of Earthy nature, we have zero instincts, we were probably artificially created in the first place and relocated to the Earth. We are misfits. We cannot live with zero possessions because our bodies are not suitable for survival on Earth without accommodations, unfortunately. We can live with less and that is where the government regulations should come into place to limit production, pollution, consumption. I grew up in Ukraine with one pot of soup in the fridge for family of four, we had no condiments, jars, bottles etc as it was expensive. We ate basics and this is how I continue living now, making basics to eat. But our bodies need clothes, shoes, heat, roof etc. What he is doing is not sustainable for his body. The best solution for the earth would be eradicating humanity.
@Helene-qw3rp2 күн бұрын
The western people need to find their connection to nature again, but not (only) by travelling but by following their hearts, by deep feeling and thinking and by creating it consciously from anew. That's work and I love Robin is showing openly the way - his singular way - to inspire and to give an example for people who have the same desire to reconnect. It's not enough to see others doing it, although that can be a great indpirstion, but we have to go each single step ourselves to bring it to life!

Or someone gave him a shirt. He’s not opposed to someone giving him something. The experiment was for him to get rid of all of the belong as he had to come to California and have nothing so now he has something which is a shirt, possibly a pair of pants I believe he does have a pair of pants or shorts on, but he still is in his purpose that he started from zero having nothing gave everything awayto have absolutely nothing. Which is pretty remarkable and probably challenging in other ways, but I’m sure with him doing this is going to cultivate a lot of perseverance, a strong faith, a strong faith in the world in earth.
