Only the title is 100% accurate bitbucketchip31 August 2022 This is a terrific concept and would have been groundbreaking in competent hands. Unfortunately, the production company was unable to distinguish fact from partial fact from fiction. Further, the interpretation of genuine data was often misguided. Specific problems, using the business episode for examples (though I could have chosen any episode): 1) non-credible sources. Citing some journalist's interpretation of research is not the same a citing the peer-reviewed article. Picking and choosing academic sources who have failed to convince their colleagues is misleading at best. 2) assertion without evidence. "Henry Ford said..." is not proof of anything other than one man's belief. 3) supposition in abstract. To be successful, many of the proposed changes would require everyone to agree. "Shorter work hours will make everyone richer, happier, and..." unemployed unless the entire world agrees to the scheme. Otherwise companies will relocate to regions where productivity is the most cost efficient. 4) lack of experience. What sounds good in abstract is rarely so in the real world. "Paying workers more is a great for business". Sure it is in theory. Problem is "more" is never ending desire of human beings. Eventually the business becomes unprofitable fails. 5) failure to learn from the past. Many of the show's proposed changes sound great, but have demonstrably failed in practice in modern times. A better presentation would be to admit the concept has problems in the real world and cite specific proposed solutions that would make it worth attempting again. 6) wishful thinking. Some of the conclusions are straight out of fantasy land. They are like the nonsense politicians would like us believe is possible when they are running for office, but somehow never seem to be enacted once in office. The reason is the problems the promises would create would dwarf any benefit derived from the promise itself. These problems plagued a similar show, Penn & Teller Bullsh!t! The result was a show that simply could not trusted. Adam did indeed ruin everything, including his own show. Five stars for the concept, the genuine factual data, and logical interpretations of genuine facts. No stars for the specific failures mentioned above. Five stars.

Politicians wont put up any sort of a safety net on the consumer because they too, claim a tax percentage of the cost, whether the real costing after insurance, or the fake marked up price that rips off the public sector, so in other words they misdirect where your money is going, which is essentially laundered into the government's pockets. Think of it like how gaming companies generally don't sell you items for a dollar price, you will have to buy some sort of token amount, generally for which there will be innefficient in the purchase packages to buy what you would need, not that that is relevant, but the point is the misdirection, you think your money is buying a token so that once you spend the token you forget how much each actual purchase in the game is actually worth. In this case you pay fake inflated rates for your health insurance which hospitals gouge inflated rates from to then pocket and split the difference with the government, and you'd think "well I'm not paying the inflated rates, my health insurance is". But you're paying those health insurance rates, and as you make claims, which can be for overly inflated amounts due to the hospital charging system, the rates will go up exponentially, so now you're paying even more rates with smaller gaps (direct payment to the medical centre) but generally its more expensive in the long run.

The thing is, politicians wield enormous power. So, even when problems "aren't their fault" in some ways, they're still at fault. The thing is, if it's your job to resolve social problems, then you have responsibility for that even if you didn't cause them. Of course, not all politicians have equal power, especially in political systems that enshrine great inequality within them.

The death part hits hard. For me, it’s not because I haven’t confronted the thought of death and non-existence, I have come to terms with it very quickly as there is no way to do anything about it and no reason to bother with it. It’s just so direct and upfront, really harsh, that makes it very off-putting. I can only imagine how scary it is for someone who hasn’t thought about these things existentially yet. It turning into comedy at the end definitely lightened the mood. We do normalize death and even laugh at tragedies as comedy, but all of what he said is true.

Whether it's possible faster reflexes or just taking advantage of sexist attitudes, some made bank. 2) Pac-Man was made specifically to appeal to women as a game without violence and with eating. 3) The video game crash of '83 was only in North America and only for home consoles. I don’t understand how some people are so proud that they refuse to learn. It shows a major lack of both empathy and intelligence. Related to this ‘backfire effect’ is the concept that people who believe in stuff regardless of facts, bringing them facts won’t change their belief. Take religion for example. There are hundreds of ways to demonstrate how things in the Bible are disproven by science, and how the book was mistranslated, and how the book was ultimately written by humans. But religious people (Christians in this case) who take the Bible literally are unlikely to change their minds when presented with the evidence. They will look for a justification in their heads no matter how illogical. The cognitive dissonance is real especially in fundamentalism.
@bk7064

@@pokemonfanthings4444 Except this is different. A lot of "ruins" Adam does in this show is highly misconstrued, regardless of the "facts" present, in turn leading to others being misled. Take his herpes take. His argument basically was "well it's fine if you have herpes, because most already have it to begin with with no sign of symptoms." Okay whatever. But this *IN TURN* leads to younger teens to think it's okay to either practice intercourse at such a young age or that it's fine if they get herpes, except it's not. *Just because many have gotten it, doesn't mean that the actions behind it, or the identity of herpes itself should be taken likely,* however Adam plays it off as if you should. He does this a lot, and most that don't think past their nose will take everything without question, nor does the religious comparison of the concept you made really work here either.

It's okay to die. It is the one truth of things in life on this planet that we can be assured of, but there is no need to fear it. The fear of the unknown is understandable, but, it doesn't make it not okay. It's okay to fear it, but I have gone through things in my personal life that have made me okay with it, as much as I do not welcome death. I don't welcome it, but I accept it. I love the show and adam is a cool guy, but people really need to stop putting adam in this skyhigh pedestal where hes a genius or something. I still cant believe people think adam actually knows everything, hes a comedian first, actor second, and host 3rd... It has been said time and time again, that everything they say has been researched by a group of people hired by the network... This is true way before trutv bought the rights to the show, the show is just that, a show about facts that people not realise or fact about common misconceptions, and the researchers are also human and they also make mistakes, thats why atleast every season they have an "emily ruins adam ruins everything" where they say that they made some mistakes and are owning up to it by admitted said mistakes.

I wish Adam had touched on the fact that "selling out" has *always* been a part of the music industry. Before getting signed, the Beatles had onstage gimmicks involving eating chicken onstage and nailing condoms to the wall. That all changed when they were offered a lucrative career, as long as they cleaned up their act, first. They did what they had to, and music was forever changed because of it.

It does make other people uncomfortable. There are ways to breast feed in public and not make other people uncomfortable. The problem are the women that have to advertise what they are doing to the world and shove it into other people's faces what she is doing. A mother can breast feed and cover what she is doing with a blanket so she can feed her child and not force everyone else around her to have to watch and to be uncomfortable. I am sure that someone would say "but its natual" but so are a guy's parts. If a woman can go around showing off her breast a guy should be allowed to walk around with no pants and go free hanging. We have social norms that everyone is expected to follow so other people don't have to feel uncomfortable. If a woman needs to feed her child then she can cover it up with a blanket. I am sure there have been times that I have been around a mother breast feeding her child and I never even noticed because she used a blanket and was discrete about what she was doing.

Worked in the healthcare industry. He's right. And we set price as high as possible to stay above contracted rate so it's never lower than the rate established by insurers. Scary thing. Nobody in the medical office actually knows what they are doing. They have no idea how to bill and what the price is. And when they call the insurance company, the insurance company doesn't know either. We used to have to call insurance company 4-5 times in a row, speak to 5 different agents and get 5 different answers. Nobody knew and nobody wanted to give a straight answer so they don't get in trouble. 1st call... do you cover this? Yes. 2nd call... do you cover this? No. 3rd call... do you cover this?.. Don't know.. 4th call... do you cover this? Yes. Then we just guess and provide the service whether covered or not. Often times if we need to know specifics, we don't get answer. "Do you cover treadmill test for pediatric patients?" Reply from agen "We cover psychiatric, generic meds, chiropratic, surgery, OBGYN, etc, etc". "I didn't ask you any of that. Stop reading from list of scripts. I asked you specifically if you cover a treadmill test for pediatric patient. We have a 7 year old with possible heart condition who needs to get a treadmill test. Do you cover that?" Response: Reading from script: We cover psychiatreic, generic meds, chiropracic, surgery, OBGYN, etc, etc." "Thank you, we learned nothing." No problem for us though. We just charge patients and make them sign a form they never read stating that they are responsible for all charges insurance doesn't cover. Wipe our hands clean like insurance does. You ever call Comcast to get a straight answer about your bill or a service and each time you talk to a new agent you got a different answer? That is what it is like being on the inside talking to insurance. Except instead of cable and talking to a clueless rep, it's your money and your health on the line. We don't pay. You do. Keep down voting Universal Healthcare.

Yeah I accepted death and inevitability in part when I was suicidal and lost my religious beliefs. Those are pretty good at hammering in the idea of your own insignificance. Honestly I dont fear death. I fear pain and I am upset at the thought of not getting to do things I wanted to, but death itself is an inevitability that it’s pointless to pretend isn’t real. Accepting it really helps.
@soulfire5256
@soulfire5256 4 жыл бұрын
The main problem I see with the inevitability of death is that, practically speaking, you can't really make plans for when you die until you're a legal adult that owns valuable property and has someone to pass their benefits on to. I don't meet the above requirements, so when I die, there's basically nothing to do except bury my body. Of course, I could die literally any day now in a nigh infinite number of ways, and I don't really have any agency in the matter, hence, my annoyance and inconvenience. That being said, once I am dead, nothing will matter to me anyways, unless there is some sort of afterlife. I suppose that may be why the concept of an afterlife is so appealing: an afterlife gives you agency in a situation where you would normally have none, so that even if you died in a way over which you had no control, you still have control with what you do after death.
