I’ve been martial arts since I was 10 and I’m very familiar with this squat variation but I mainly use it as a warm-up before I get into some kicking practice. I can’t wait to try this with added weight.

I literally saw someone doing it less than 24hrs ago at my gym… and I finally found another movement for leg days🤘

Go slow with these, most people aren't used to groin muscles stretching and working that hard. Also it's really easy to round your back if you don't have the ROM. They're good, just be careful and don't ego lift with this one.
@cryptocsguy92824 ай бұрын
The 1st time I did cossack squats I tried to side splits(still working on it) and I noticed my hips and overall ROM open up a little more than they did before plus it's a good stretch in your thighs , just be careful not t f*** your knees up if you're off balance
@bobmythic32204 ай бұрын
Definitely start with body weight on this until it becomes part of your stretching. Then you can add weight

I’ve been resting in Cossack squat for 30s x2 & horse stance for 30s x2, 5 days a week and it seems to be helping with opening up my hips. I feel like I’ve done so much to open up my ankles I think the hips are the limiting factor on getting a good resting squat

Once you can lift decent weights with these they are a pretty awesome strength move as well.

I do classic squats like four different times a day because it cracks my groin. It actually cracks an entire sequence that stretches for my groin all the way into my knee

I just feel like its best with a barbell or weightvest to keep the weight close the the center of your body because when doing them with the weight Infront of you the lowerback when doing them with at certain amount of weight tends to be the limiting factor (especially for higher reps)

You should really be doing kicks alongside these. Strengthening the glutes by lifting the leg will loosen the adductors and increase flexibility. I do both to warm up for the hanging split.
@TrevorHamberger4 ай бұрын
What do you mean by kicks? Do you mean like lifting up the extended leg when you get to the bottom of the squat?
@dp27thelight94 ай бұрын
@@TrevorHamberger A kick like someone would do in kickboxing. I find it fascinating how little people discuss basic punching/kicking in calisthenics, bodybuilding etc. Same goes for clean/jerk and snatch. Some of the greatest exercises that exist. Kicking will strengthen your glutes and loosen your adductors for crossack squat and hanging splits. I also do a lot of pigeon pose as well which you can do with weights.
@TrevorHamberger4 ай бұрын
@@dp27thelight9 i see. Well I'll take it into mind. I've actually thought about it myself in the past I'll be at not too seriously. I play basketball though. I have implemented some martial arts stuff into my training like doing handstand walks. Also horse stance in pigeon stance and there's another one I'm forgetting

You will still want a heavier, high effort squat variation to stimulate growth, but this can be a great assistance movement for lower body strength and it's very functional in a way that most squat variations don't practice.

@Paraselene_Tao4 ай бұрын
@@RHIMYM Do you have any equipment at home? What can you budget, and do you have a good, flat space with high ceiling clearance (9 feet or more) for a strength gym (bare minimum: power rack, barbell, weights, rubber mat flooring, and a bench)? It's also possible to set up outside if you have good cover from rain & snow.

This exercise is what i think caused my legs to get a debilitating groin/hamstring pull. Since then everytime my legs are soar i have a chance to get it again when i move a certain way. It completely halted my workout and forced me to change them completely making it harder for me to get stronger and add size for fear of getting that terrible pull again.
