People with chronic pain do have a higher tolerance. I have the same disease and I’m a baby when it comes to pain. But as I’m experiencing said pain, I always think about what hurts more, what’s hurting me or my back? Eyebrow waxing, broken bones, banged joints, cuts, burns, etc. are temporary pains that will heal. My back never stops hurting and sometimes leaves me unable to move.

​​​@@lunayen if I'm not mistaken it has to do with the level of melanin each skin has vs the hair color. There is a bigger contrast between black hair and white skin than between black hair and black skin, so the machine is more prone to making mistakes of where the hair follicle actually is

@@milenamartins21 it depends on the machine! there’s different ones that target different things in the skin for example pigment is one which is used for people with lighter skin, and those with darker skin are put on a machine that targets the blood supply! therefore may be more painful due to hitting in different areas of the skin in terms of depth.

The machine she is using has a 1064 Nd: Yag laser built in. This is completely safe for darker skin tones because the beam doesn’t really absorb into the melanin! As long as she’s using the proper setting (most machines have base settings built in making it fool proof) for his fitz, he’ll have no adverse side effects at all!

@@itsachrisis ah ok, that helps thank you! I’ve gotten waxed in the past and I’ve heard it’s not nearly as painful as that. So between knowing that and hearing your account (as an anxious person myself) it’s very comforting to know :)

​@@L0ctisid say getting waxed is more painful. I started getting laser hair removal a few months ago and i was super scared, but it isnt that painful, especially on the first few sessions. Ut gets increasingly more painful when they up the thing lol but honestly, its manageable

I do wish the practitioner mentioned how the laser tends to be less effective/more painful for people with darker skin tones because the laser focuses heat on dark spots. I worry Kwesi had more pain because the laser didn’t focus on just the hair follicles. I got this info a couple years ago so I hope laser technology has improved since and can be applied more equitably
