I tried making sticky rice last year and it was terrible. One of the steps was to soak it overnight after rinsing it. I couldn’t believe that it would take so long to make rice in the first place;but to have the outcome be awful made the entire thing a bad experience. I decided to try your instructions and made a perfect batch of sticky rice. Thank you for giving me an important new kitchen skill! 😊

Washing rice is ok for two times but if you wash rice more, all that healthy starch is gone upto some extent. My grandma told me.

Not by itself. It's just about flavorless... Or at least "neutral". That's why it fits with meats OR desserts: it just compliments what it's with...

So we don't have to add salt or sugar in this rice just enjoy its original taste? Right? I wants to try it but i never tried rice without salt so i am very tempt to use salt...i shouldn't right@@AOMartialArts

Just adjust however you want to. I sometimes like adding a nice crackle pink Himalayan salt on top of hot rice and the mix. I would say that sticky rice is slightly sweeter than say regular long grain white rice. Alternatively, if you want it to be sweet go head and add sugar. Or better yet, try making mango sticky rice. @@snehashrimali486

No. At your Asian store look for sweet rice or glutinous rice.

I let mine soak over night like many sources recommend and then I steamed mine first batch for about 20 minutes and it was very mushy. What did I do wrong?

You soaked it too long. 20 mins not 20 hours. Too much water absorbed.

Thank you. A lot of recipes online call to soak it overnight in cold water. I'll try soaking for 20 minutes in boiling water next time. Seems more convenient that anyway.@@c.madelicious

Yeah my bag says soak for 8-24 hours in cold water or 3 hours in hot water, soaked for 8 hours and it ended up dry 🤔

You might not have rinsed the rice well enough before soaking. You need to rinse it a good 5-6 times to get the extra starch out before you soak the rice.
