For the first 2 "hacks", I don't think it's fair to say. The makeup one is more for fun and content and not really everyday make up hacks. The heatless curls one, she even admitted that all the videos had very different hair from her so it's not a fair comparison to say it doesn't work.

For the t-shirt cleaning test I feel you should have done 2 more shirts, one that didn't soak at all and one that onlyvsoaked in water with no chemicals added to show whether these methods were better, worse, or the same

I think it should have also been done at a laundromat where each shirt could be in the machine separately vut simultaneously. When thrown in one load of laundry, the chemicals they soaked in will bleed into the others and potentially impact results.

Also, the fact that they applied each stain to one shirt doesn't account for slight variations between the shirts. Was it really the soaking method or a slight variation in the fabric that made one shirt less likely to retain the stain? Instead, she should have cut random swatches from each shirt to get a single type of stain, then wash all of the swatches together.

Type 3b hair here and my mom has type 4. For special occasions (weddings, recitals) my mom would curl my hair without heat or chemicals. Needs freshly washed hair (not just damp) and smaller locks. She’s only ever do a few strands with the rest in a bun. That product obviously isn’t suitable for curly hair since it requires you to have larger locks which won’t separate like it does for straight hair

For heatless curls, honestly the individual curlers make more sense to me: Each section is evenly split and done on their own, similar to how you would do with heat, so there is no risk of tangles. You can part your hair however you want as the sides are not tied together. There are now silicone ones that are (supposedly) much comfier to sleep on than the old style. The problem is, the process is still SO involved.

I do wonder what a control would have looked like on the shirts-washing without any kind of presoak. It seems like with laundry, stains have categories, and there just isn't any one solution that will work on every type of stain. Like, you need a fraking flow chart to keep track of what to do with what kind of stain. 😭 Especially if it's a mix of different kinds of stains all mushed together. I hate laundry.

As someone with hair similar to yours, never wet your hair and do curlers overnight. My mom did that to me in grade 3, and I ended up with a fro. 😂 Edit: Untreated and dry in curlers overnight however will produce something closer to Shirley Temple.

My initial thought was the same. How do we know how well they performed without a control? However, when you think about it, the goal wasn't to compare these methods to regular washing, but to test the veracity of their claims that these methods would clean the shirts. Even if they do a better job than regular washing, they still aren't accomplishing what they claim to accomplish. So they do still fail.

Hi Amy, for the 3rdexperiment, I think 4 shirts should've been used. 3 for the experiments like you did and 1 for the control group. The control group shirt would be stained the same as the rest but it would be washed without any presoak treatment.

Same! tho I have a whole routine, I put my clothes to soak in a mixture of soap powder & baking soda for about a night (8hr give or take) and then a normal cicle and then another cicle, yeah I know to much water but I have dogs so I use that water to wash the floors and I do laundry only 1-2 days a week.

The last experiment was so funny to me because borax and washing soda are 2 of the 3 main ingredients in a basic laundry detergent, along with soap. These "hacks" all basically just used a weaker version of detergent, so of course they didn't work super well. I bet Amy would've gotten much better results if she had done the presoak with actual detergent, and the best results if she had used OxyClean.

The heatless curls can be done in so many ways and take a bit of experimenting. using the satiny type I found it's won't stick as much as the velvety. where it did work well, The curls do look nice.

I have similar hair, the best waves/curls (my hair seems to decide on a whim which one she wants to do) I get is throwing my damp hair into a braid overnight. I also use a curl-boosting shampoo that also helps cut on the frizz. For the shirts, I wonder if using hot vs cold water would make any difference?

as a kid i was taught that if things like ketchup or blood or any other easy stain stuff on a shirt to soak it in cold water ASAP. we didnt add anything just cold water and mom washed it later and it worked pretty well. once i was big enough to use the washer and dryer i made sure to wait 1 or 2 hours before washing.

Honestly for heartless curls on curly hair, at least 4 individual foam curlers for thicker hair do more, fresh wash not damp or use mousse to soak it, brushed through , the curlers are easier to sleep with and don’t get as hot and the hair won’t dry uneven and it will end up less tangles, honestly baking soda is the best cleaner just because it’s not an irritant, or poisonous

Type 2a. I only have curled my hair on special occasions but I use a 2 in 1 style tool where one side is a hair straightener and other is a curling tool. I don’t use heat protectant on my hair because the instructions on my tool say to not use it otherwise it will burn the hair, not to mention I have seen on my Instagram stories (probably TikTok as well though I don’t have the account) has tested various heat protectant sprays that can burn receipt paper. Also I don’t use heatless curls due to a potential risk of tension alopecia but I often braid my hair if I want wavy hair the next day. Also: with 23:44 I noticed that Amy did not mention if the make up used was either water based or oil based. Oil based make up/ waterproof makeup might not work with the pre soaks as oil and water do not mix. In those cases I think they might have benefited from a stain remover spray but I don’t think either of those matter as the point was to attempt TikTok trends but depending on the composition of the stain or make up, it might have been a factor with stain removal.

I feel the one test you needed that you didn't do, is a t-shirt without the pre-soak, two t-shirts, one straight into the machine, and one after the others have had their pre-soak, help you find out if the pre-soak helped, or made it worse.

Is it just me or do they not talk about Lee very often? Tom, Amy, Santi, and even to some degree Ash are all frequently referring to each other or crossing over, even just helping each other with experiments, but Lee rarely ever does any of that. Even in this episode, a brief mention of dishes was enough to get a call out to Santi, but an "Everything Everywhere All At Once" movie reference didn't get a call out for Lee? And to that same degree I don't think Lee is nearly as likely to include the others in his theories. I often used to go to bed after a shower with my hair braided. You can do thick or small braids to promote whatever result you want. A lot easier than spending money on that product. (my hair is a similar type to Amy's - a mix of types)

For white clothes, pre-soaking with coconut soap has worked the best for me. But I also have a product in Brazil called Vanish that I use to get rid of some more difficult stains, like bleed-through from other clothes/colors.

Honestly anytime I ever use non heat rollers overnight I have to make sure I put oil and leave in conditioner in my hair prior to them or they will be a dry frizzy mess. best thing ive found for stain removal is a pre-soak with oxyclean (and a little scrub on the stain) and then wash in the hottest water the fabric will tolerate; i was surprised oxy wasnt included in the stain removal lineup. a lot of stain removal also requires a light scrub to really get the stain out. sometimes they take two or three treatments to get the whole stain. ive successfully removed turmeric, blood, and wine stains from my clothes this way. still havent found what gets makeup out though (especially foundation) so that would make for a great future video. i have 2c hair and the heatless curls also didnt work for me, they left my hairline super flat, the curls didnt even fully dry overnight, the back of my head was a disaster, and the curls were SO frizzy and tangled the only contouring "hack" that ever worked for me was putting my contour way higher up on my cheek, basically at the bottom of my cheekbone instead of in the hollow of my cheek, to "lift" my face. totally changed how my makeup looked for the better

The starburst hack is half of the lightest foundation shades available for me on me 😂 Also, I think those heatless curlers can work for wavy hair, but mostly for fine hair. I'm a type 2 a-c here, with very fine hair but the curl patterns specifically are mixed, amd honestly heatless curling things work well...but I prefer my natural hair and the slight frizz because for me frizzy hair means clean hair.

For getting out very peculiar stains (like wine, beetroot, blackberry jam or period blood) the best thing is whitening soap (vanish soap) and some kind of laundry detergent specifically for white clothes (Tomi laundry detergent usually works even without the whitening soap, but I would only trust it if said clothing wasn't that important). Soaking the clothes in laundry detergent for 1-5 hours (depending on for how long you forget to take them out) and scrubbing them by hand before putting them into the washing machine is also great.

A recommendation for laundry, I've found that adding a 1/4c (4 Mississippis lol) of household ammonia will easily lift even set in foundation. I also don't use fabric softener because the waxes it uses seals in bad odors and dirt/grime.

I've always used all three: borax, baking soda, and landry booster to wash. Borax turns into crystals with cold water but disolves easier with hot, but it also helps when the baking soda is added since it loosens the borax itself when it turns into a paste like product. Mixing them all (I use 1/2 cup baking soda, 1 cup borax, 1 cup laundry booster) and making a premade mix to add when you please has removed close to all stains I thought I'd never get out. With my washer on it's bulky setting, it fills up first and since I add the pre-made mix, it dissolves automatically and soaks before washing. I use it for everything laundry related

For the pre-soak stuff: i reacently had a haircolor-session with some friends at my house. We had (old!!) white towels, for coloring hair without coloring our cloths. The next day i soaked the how henna- and permanent-pink- colored towles with warm water and deep cleansing shampoo (we call that stuff here "tiefenreinigungsshampoo") and put the towles in my washer and after that in the dryer. They still got some really light pink spots, but they are nearly white again! - i soaked the towles not long, like, 5 min and rinced them out, maybe if i had soaked them longer there wouldnt be any spots at all. -maybe this helps someone.

I find that soap is the best when it comes to makeup stains. I use a towel to remove mine, and I simply clean it by hand with soap (there might be something with washing it by hand too)

Instead of doing a prewash when I have a stain I spray the stain with dawn powerwash and let it sit. Then when after a couple hours rinse it out just scrubbing with your fingers and repeat till the stain is pretty much gone, then wash as normal.

Best hack for removing makeup, use an oil based makeup remover (preferably a Japanese one like the Kose Softmo Cleansing Oil) to pre treat the stains. Just rinse the product out and like 90% of the stains are gone

I need you to try Oxiclean for the makeup stains as for me, that has been the best remover of make up. Mind you, it doesn't completely remove it but fades it out to just the tiniest hint of make up. This coming from someone who casually touches their face and then their clothes because they're dumb.
