I was a high school dance teacher for many years. I gave my dance assistants $50 gift certificates every semester to the local dance store and tease them by saying here is one point shoe. Now it would take three semesters for the girls to earn these beauties.

Just keep in mind it is a journey. Finding a good pointe shoe that suits you can be a journey of trial and error. You may change throughout your training as you develop and get stronger. Different pointe shoes for different stages, as you see the need. It is what suits you. You are your own best judge, all advice considered! Enjoy! It is an exciting event!

@@Zeracheil How fast a shoe will die relies on a lot of factors. Still, the expensive brand are Gaynor Mindens, they last multiple times longer than the average pointe shoe. So they could last for months, again, depending on the dancer.

@GALMA 0 that is really unfortunate, I wish ballet shoes weren’t so extremely expensive. But I was talking more about girls I know who have told me (a ballet dancer) "yeah I have pretty strong ankles I think I can just do pointe" [not ballet dancers, have never taken a pointe or ballet class] and then dismiss me when I tried to say that maybe they should start ballet first, and then they show up in these types of shoes....tbh it’s insulting to dancers and it’s dangerous

@@SomeOne-ic5zg Honestly, when you look into what goes into making proper pointe shoes, and consider that they're not made in sweat shop factories but rather in places like London where people are actually paid, the price of a pair is cheap for what you get. Claudia Dean ( ex Royal Ballet) got some pointe shoes either from Wish or Amazon (or both? I can't remember if she had pointe shoes in two videos or not) and she had just about the exact same reaction in the vid she made. I'm not a ballet dancer by any stretch of the imagination, but even I can see those Wish shoes look terrible.

@@HamelinSong I have the ones for 25$ and I'm really happy with them:) I always used r-class pointe shoes, but I am very pleased with my Soudittur shoes. It's crazy how good they are.

Honestly I don't trust dancers who recommend shoes that you can't even get a proper fitting for. Dancers who are happy with those shoes are either not as well trained as they think they are, or are getting some sort of secret kick-backs for praising them.

They weren't happy at first but after inspecting them and seeing them on my feet, they agreed on letting me use them. But not every shoe is good for everyone. I admit that I am not a professional dancer, but they are good enough for my needs and don't look and feel as sacrilegious as the ones in the video. Some people just don't have the money to always buy 100€ shoes. And please: Don't buy pointe shoes when you are not ready for them! Also look out for your feet, you only have two of them for your whole life. (sorry if I couldn't explain it good enough. English is my second language and I'm not very good at it)

before the days of wish, i bought a cheap pair of ballet slippers from walmart (they actually weren't even that much cheaper than the real ones, maybe $10 less) and i wore them to exactly one class...the soles were somehow stitched weird so that they pinches and hurt just standing in them, and they wouldn't stay on even during something simple like rises. just an all around bad slipper and it really made me appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into the simplest dance gear

Cheap shoes are unhealthy especially for young dancers. There will be dancers who buy those dangerous shoes just out of need or ignorance. This is not good. Pointe work requires serious attention to injury prevention.

You can get your pointe shoes on (if they fit properly and you have your elastics and ribbons sewn on properly and also know how to tie your ribbons ... ) and just do simple bourrees around your house for a few minutes at a time. This will help strengthen your feet for pointe.

Satin is a type of weave, so it can be made of different material. I guess it's mostly silk in real pointe shoes and polyester in wish ones.

hello would you say gaynors have low crown for those with shallower feet? (eg grishko 2007 crown works for me but will gaynors?)

Gaynor has the most low crown I have ever seen, it's lower than grishko 2007

Try them on. My youngest daughter’s choice were the Grishko 2007s but Gaynors did not suit her, and it was not the low crown. There are so many factors to your pointe shoe selection. It is an intimate and personal custom choice to the blend of the shoe you choose that suits you best. It is not easy to find your “perfect” shoe. Just keep trying various ones. You might even purchase one that seems perfect when you try it on but it will be a fail once you go through class or rehearsal. It can require patience going through some trial and error. And you might use different shoes as well for different uses. I knew one professional who traveled internationally between performances and flying would make her feet swell, or a demanding performance would as well, so she needed different sizes for the changes in her feet. You will find what suits you best if you keep aware of your needs and working at it.

lol if the ribbon came sewed in it'd NOT a good shoe. They don't come sewed in because each foot needs support in different places. PLEASE be careful if you wear them, you can do permanent damage to your legs and feet.
