To be fair all southeast asian was under japanese occupation during that time. However how they were seen was different. I remember back in my day, there were mentioned that Indonesian was actually rejoicing for their occupation because they thought Japanese would liberate them from Netherland. Turn out did not happen and even after they left and Indonesia declared independence, it did not stop Netherland trying to take back the control of its former colony.
