Hi Deana and Phil!! I worked at a bakery in the US. They make Spritzkuchen, but they are called French Crullers (or just Crullers) and come frosted in the white powdered sugar glaze, strawberry glaze, or chocolate frosting. And Pfannkuchen (or as folks outside Berlin call them, "Berliner") are called Bismarcks in the US. There are many other overlaps of baked goods we have here that are also in the US under different names and sometimes with a slightly different taste and/or consistency, which leads me to donuts... I understand what Deana means about the donuts not being the same as in the US. It's not that you can't find yummy donuts in Germany, but the dough and the preparation here are slightly different. There are generally two types of doughs for donuts in the US - yeast raised and cake. A cake donut is just like it sounds. It has the consistency of cake. However, the yeast raised donut is usually lighter and more airy due to letting the dough rise in a proofer (hence the name 'raised donut'). Yeast donuts must be allowed to rise slowly and at the exact right temperature in the proof box. The ones in Germany are still good, but they aren't yeast raised donuts. The dough is a bit denser with a consistency somewhere between bread and cake. It's as if it's a cross between a cake and a raised donut. Also, raised donuts (with holes) are not filled in the US due to the dough not being dense enough to withstand the filling. Long johns are also made from a yeast raised dough, but they are proofed slightly differently than the yeast raised donuts with holes allowing them to then be filled later. That all being said... baked goods (sweet or savory, German or US) are delicious, if made well. 😊 Thanks for your videos! I gain weight just watching you guys eat all these different things! 😂

@@blackforest_fairy I guess that depends. Don't know if you're aware, but Americans have specific name for the Berliner (or at least they used to). When I was a kid, folks in the Midwest, and possibly elsewhere, called them Bismarcks (as in the Bismarck). I don't know if anyone calls them that today, but it's an interesting linguistic switch, n'est-ce pas? The Spritzkuchen looks somewhat like what we would call a Cruller. The Schillerlocke is called a Cornetta, from the Italian for Horn. At least these are terms used in bakeries in the Midwest/Chicago area.
