TRYING MAKEUP FROM BRANDS I NEVER USE (The April Fools Video)

Walking through Ulta one day, I had the idea to try all the brands I was avoiding reviewing: Kylie Cosmetics. MORPHE. Colourpop. KVD Vegan Beauty...the list goes on. Why don't I talk about these brands? Each one has its own reason, but today I'm giving them my full attention. I'm dedicating this chatty GRWM to reviewing the brands I never talk about on my channel, and deciding if I've been justified in my judgments of them in the past or if maybe they have some redeeming merits.

This video is still such a fun april fools idea! Your points about colourpop are so true they literally are doing a deal today where they'll refund 10 orders up to $300 which seems like they are just encouraging overspending for the chance you might've spent nothing 🥴 not great in my opinion!

Hey FYI on the Pony x Morphe palette, a lot of those shade names are actually Korean words spelled out with English letters. I'm pretty sure Pony has a video where she goes through each shade, so you can get a better feel for how to pronounce the names, lol

I got the Item Beauty blush(and concealer and lipgloss, but I love those) and I never even swatched it, I opened it and saw it was a powder and returned it, and when I told the sephora employee she said that she's had a lot of people return it because they wanted a cream and it's not a cream. It made me feel less crazy after reading the reviews🤣

I will say that, yes- in isolation each of your makeup looks appears to work out well, and it can be hard to see products failing you in vivo (or as much as a pre-recorded video can be in vivo). Still, I really appreciate that you have a consistent look that you do because I feel like I can recognize across videos when something works really well or doesn’t.

Clinique products that I like: Chubby Sticks (eyeshadow, lipsticks, blush, highlighter, contour); Quickliners (eye and lip and eyebrow - Intense eye ones have PFAS in them though); Powder Pop bronzer; lipsticks (especially Almost Lipstick in Black Honey and Pink Honey; also Dramatically Different and Pop lipsticks are okay); Touch Base eyeshadow base; Moisture Surge Pop lip balm. They make a lot of other stuff that I don't like at all or that has pretty bad ingredients in it though.

I'm a Clinique lifer! I second a lot of these options. One of my favorite things from them EVER was their loose powder bronzer. We used it all the time in high school and college and used to refer to it as "miracle bronzer" because you could just keep piling it on and I swear you looked better the more you wore LOL. But, I don't think they carry it anymore. I just tried their new bronzer with the flowers etched in the top and I can't even see it on my fair skin. Maybe I need to use a denser brush? I love all of the chubby sticks, and I think Kackie would really appreciate some of the lighter shades...I think Whole Lotta Honey is one of my favorite nudes. All About Eyes is my absolute favorite eye cream of all time. I also really like their high impact mascara for sensitive eyes, but I don't think Kackie will like it due to her love affair with tubing mascaras...actually due to the fact that it comes off with just warm water and a little effort I think she'll HATE it. I could see Kackie liking the curvy countour but I think it might be underwhelming compared to the Westman Atelier. Touch Base in Uplighting is magical but they haven't repackaged it since like 1995 so it's ugly looking and it tends to dry out if not used constantly. It's like some sort of taupe magic though. Hmm what else...try out bare pop lipstick, and maybe the shade silvery moon too if you want to dupe the vibes of Lizzie Mcguire. If you don't love silvery moon you can send it to Kait, because I think she would. LOL Ok can you tell I watch all your YT buddies? You, Hannah, and Kait every day! :)

@@justinacreates4953 Clinique Powder Pop bronzer is very very similar to the much more expensive Westman Atelier bronzer powder, except that it is just a tiny bit more yellowish/peach, which is good for my warm skin tone. Gucci Westman suggests using the powder bronzer first, lightly on the whole top half of the face including the forehead, and then using their bronzing highlighter just on the cheekbones. And so that is how I use the Clinique bronzer, as the first step. It works really well to give me just a touch of overall color on my fair/light skin, but if I was much darker, it would not work at all, I know. And I am sure it would not look as good on someone with cool tones either. For me it has been perfect (and Michele Wang has raved about it for her skin too - she is about the same shade that I am).

CLINIQUE has some good stuff. Not all of it by a long shot. But there are definitely some things worth buying. They used to have an Acne concealer and that stuff worked so well to cover acne spots. I still have a tube even though they discontinued it. Their Black Honey almost lipstick really is that good IMO - I was just wearing today. And they also some good skincare too.

Honestly the metallics on your eyes look more satin than anything else. The texture is a super flat dull shine rather than a wet look or foil. So for me it’s not what I’m looking for, I’d rather spend money on textures that excite me and have amazing formula.

I still loved this video, and I agree with most of what you said. In 2015 my entire makeup bag was morphe and colourpop and then when I started making some money and moved to a city with a Sephora I was floored by the actual difference quality makeup made!

I wish colorpop took a note from old Anastasia Beverly Hills, and took more time on an amazing collection that excite people. That way a collection will have the time put into it ( and release better shades for people in their products), and people could keep up with them. Also releasing so much makeup means they will run out of ideas and inspiration soon.

I would be really interested to hear your thoughts on the KVD gel blushes. I got one and really like the flushed look it gives. Very different texture from any blush I’ve ever used.

Cool It is my favorite base blush shade-- it's such a neutral pink on me, and then I can warm it up or cool it down from there. It's much sheerer and more emollient than the other stick blushes I've had from them-- the only other one I've kept is Aviary, and it's my bright, warm focal pink shade. Cool It is my fave partially because of the color, and partially because it plays so well with anything I've ever put on top of it. I only own a singular powder blush (Clinique Cheek Pop in Black Honey) and even that doesn't stamp or anything on top, without powdering first.

Juvias place bronzer duo is the absolute best Ulta purchase I made last year. I bought it in November and I've already hit pan. The lightest shade is AMAZING

Colourpop’s bulk purchase impetus is soooo tricky. It’s ostensibly cheap but you’re really paying $30 a pop to hit free shipping. That said, it’s easy to forget that Revlon and Maybelline still don’t make very good shadows. That’s the Colourpop market. People of…my religion…knew for like 20 years that Kat Von D was bigoted against us. People didn’t care. People only cared when she took an action that fed into a publicly volatile climate. I have a whole list of people/companies who hate people like me, who are still promoted in the beauty sphere. It’s upsetting.

@@dw7896 i don’t want to blow up Kackie’s comments section so I’ll start with some gentle activism: start keeping track of the brands whose “holiday” releases are really just about Christmas. It’s fine for a brand to do Christmas stuff if they also do regular seasonal launches with general fall/winter and new years stuff (but even a notable focus on just winter gets dicey, since not all cultures/religions celebrate during that season). It gets even worse with brands acting like advent calendars are secular and applicable to everyone. What are they counting down to, hmmm? It’s a lot of stuff adding up to tell me I’m not wanted as a customer. An easy example is Sam R’s Auric brand. She made a big deal about inclusivity, and then she went and did a green and red Christmas product. Is she a horrible person who deserves to be canceled? No, but she didn’t think, and she’s not as inclusive as she claims.

Your thoughts on Morphe are pretty spot on and similar to my experience as well. The only thing I've ever gotten from them was a bunch of stuff from the Lisa Frank collab, which was beautiful and a packaging home run. As soon as I started interacting with the shadows... 😀🙂😐😶 Haven't really done much with it since, I kind of wish I'd taken that money and bought a trapper-keeper on EBAY🌈 Oh well!
