my family always eat mcdonald’s (usually once every week aha) soo when i first started recovery they were begging me to eat with them there and eventually after about 4 months of refusal i realised that it was the anorexia that was stopping me from joining in with them so i bought a burger ! :) it was quite embarrassing as i was shaking with fear in mcdonald’s and i got very overwhelmed BUT i ate it!! and it was delicious and felt so empowering to eat! :) i started with smaller burgers and each time i’ve been i’ve increased the size, im now able to eat a mcplant burger! eventually i want to be able to challenge myself to have a burger AND fries (with no compensation)!!

so update, it’s now 2 months later and now i have confidently been able to eat mcdonald’s without feeling much anxiety or guilt after eating 🥳🥳 yesterday i ordered some fries with the meal, i ate most of them even though they weren’t nearly as good as my home made ones and they were slightly cold and flavourless but i was so impressed with myself. after that my family all ordered mcflurries and at first i wasn’t going to have one and i was just going to have dessert at home but then i realised, what makes me unable to get dessert at mcdonald’s? anorexia. soo i got an oreo mcflurry and wow it tasted so so good, literally was like my childhood it was so beautiful. sounds dramatic but it was so incredible i can’t believe i ever restricted something so delicious.

Hi Ro. So proud of you. I just wanted to say NEVER feel pressure to share the "other thing" going on. As you develop a parasocial relationship with your viewers you might feel pressure to share more and more. But you've shared many times that you feel safer not sharing certain things. I respect your boundaries and I know so many other people on here, if not everyone, respects them too. You have so many supportive, understanding people following your journey. Sending you so much love.

I felt odd after, but I really did it. I eat takeaway like this about once monthly, to try to test myself.

I recently challenged McDonald's and now I can eat it, I'm so happy because missed it and now when all my friends want it I don't have to just get a diet coke I can get whatever I want and enjoy it with them

Thank you so much for showing those of us who share your struggles that it is going to be okay. Vocalising your thoughts as you are having it and recognising the irrationality of the fear is so reassuring and shows us how strong you really are. You have to be so strong mentally to be able to notice when the thoughts are coming from the disorder, and you have nailed it. I hope to one day be as capable as you. Xx
