The easiest way to hem sweater knit is to choose a banded option on a pattern or to double fold the hemline and stitch in place using a long straight stitch or a stretch stitch. Give it a good steam at the end (being sure to use the appropriate heat setting for the fiber content of the fabric). - DIBY club

For hemming sweaters, I recommend bias binding the edge and then turning it under and hand stitching the binding to the inside of the sweater.

Another way to hem sweater/knit material is using an overlooking stitch (kind of like a zig zag along the edge). Or you could use a server machine/overlocker!

I literally remember the tumblr clothing DIY videos so well I subbed in like 2016 in the height of the tumblr fashion phase and have absolutely stanned ever since!
@nataliamaliga3 жыл бұрын
For the two piece yellow knit set that you said you used fabric glue to make the ends not fray, I would get some white bias binding from a fabric store (or whatever color matches the band on the sleeves and the collar) and hem using the bias binding to hide all the edges and make it not scratchy.

for hemming knit fabrics I researched sm for it and couldn’t find anything,, ended up doing invisible hem just to try and it worked! might not work w thicker fabrics (mine was a cardigan on the thinner side), but it has held up for me. I’ve worn and washed it lots too.

You could get some white edge binding strips for that yellow suit, and bind the rough edges AND re-enforce the edge the buttons go in and in with something a bit stiffer, which would help with the gapping between the buttons. The white edging would match the other edging that is already there so you wouldn't have to worry about finding a perfect match for the yellow. They just sell strips of hearty fabric for binding edges like that. You'd just fold it over the top and stitch through, or face two pieces together to encase it more thickly.

So I know what you mean with sweater fabric! Any knits for me are just so hard to work with cause of how slippery, grabby, and voluminous they can be. To hem sweater material like this you can just double fold it but I feel that makes too thick of a hem that can easily warp if you don't sew it straight (and I'm still novice at sewing so it always looks bad for me lol), so what I prefer to do is hem it with a basting or some type of ribbon/trim you can encase the free edge in. It also gives you opportunity for an accent color moment/extra color coordination ;)

If you want to keep the new hem stretch use a narrow piece of elastic and sew it with a stretch or zigzag stitch on the right side without stretching it, then fold it over to the inside and sew again. I'm pretty sure I saw withwendy make a tutorial about it so you can check out her videos where she works with knits to find what I'm talking about
