LEVI'S, WHAT'S GOOD?????
In today's video, I'm trying on different sizes of LEVI'S jeans (DISASTER)! This saga began a few months back when I tried to order a pair of Levi's Ribcage jeans in the largest straight size. They were about 4 sizes too small, so I returned them and bought the smallest plus size, and those were way too big! So it got me thinking...can a midsize body like mine, size 14/16, fit into Levi's jeans? Trying to find my size in Levi's WAS A ROLLERCOASTER. If you have any midsize / plus size Levi's tips, PLEASE leave them in the comments because I'm totally and completely lost on this one! Hope you enjoy nonetheless xoxoxo

I have worked at Levi’s for over 4 years- and here is my observations from my own midsize pear shaped body (size 10-16) as well as fitting hundreds of women: - the “300” shaping series (I.e. 311, 315) are stretchy and fit to your body. You don’t have to be curvy to rock these as they form to you instead of you forming to them. I wear my smallest size in these - 30/10 - the “700” series (I.e. 724, 721) have a tendency to narrow in at the waist in the high rise fits. They fit an hour glass figure better than a square figure. The only exception to this would be the super skinnies Because they are so close to a jegging. I wear a 31/12 in these because they are not as stretchy as the 300s. - Ribcage, Wedgie, 501s or other one off/fashion fits are best gaged by their fabric content (which is listed on the webpage and internal tags) and your body type. For most curvy women, I suggest going up 1-2 sizes (especially if the stretch fiber is 1-2%). Those who are more slender can normally wear their normal size. I typically wear a 32-33/14-16 in these fits. (@Carrie Dayton, I think this is why the 501s were such a bad fit.) - All Levi’s jeans you want to fit *slightly* snug because they will relax over time. I normally see mine snug up after washing but relaxing again shortly after. - if going from women’s sizes to the men’s section you will want to add 2 to the size. So if you are a women’s 30, you will want to start with a 32. Depending on the style you may want to go higher than that. - classic fits, denizen, and signature Levi’s all fit differently from each other and anything else that I mentioned above. Their sizing is often way off from the other style sizing. Which can add to the frustration. - the website is not always as helpful as I’d like it to be and I completely understand why people get frustrated! It has definitely gotten more user friendly in the last year! - with returning Levi’s from the website- you can go into a Levi’s store and return online jeans. They will then sell them in store which cuts down on the carbon footprint of those jeans. I understand being cautious right now, but I know that the company is continuing to go above and beyond the requirements for cleanliness and safety right now.

This was so validating to put on blast. I feel like Levi’s just doesn’t offer something for me either as a fellow mid size gal. I had done a try on trip in person a year ago and when I asked an associate wtf is with the sizing, since sizing did not make any sense and NOTHING would go past my thighs even, she told me yeah Levi’s isn’t really made for a body like mine 😳 Wtf. I’m a size 12/14. She told me to try a different brand. It was really hurtful and I vowed to never buy from them again.

If they used waist inches it'd make it much simpler. I have a pair of nine west jeans that say 4/26. If they did that for all pants, it'd save trying on a lot of pants that end up too big or too small

@@mysharona6754 sizing being different in different parts of the world would make that difficult as well. unless they use both metrics and then maybe it could work (but even like that i’m pretty sure not all jeans would fit the same, different brands will always make different jeans, and according to the types and such, we’d have to measure them to find that it’s not always accurate)

Literally, Levi’s destroy my confidence. Even though I know size doesn’t matter I just feel HUGE when I have to go up and up and up. For reference I’m a size 6 in American Eagle and an 8 standard (weird mid sizing for me). I appreciate you normalizing that this is ok and that Levi’s is just not very size inclusive and that it’s ok. Thank you so much for preaching confidence and helping me accept myself and love myself in the body I’m in

You are speaking such truth! I am not plus size, but curvy. I have never found a pair that fits me without needing to alter it. The experience is also so unpleasant with the constant back and forth. In America Eagle I am a size 0-2 depending on the style, etc. I still can never confidently tell you my size at Levi's. On the other hand they fit my husband like a a glove so I keep giving them a chance only to walk out confused and less confident.

Same! I’m also a size 8 at American eagle maybe a 10 if there is zero stretch and I’m the same size pretty much anywhere else you can buy jeans from H&M to madewell but I’m always at least a 30/31 in Levi’s. It’s the worst feeling to buy so many jeans and they not work.

Yes, even as a straight size, Levi's confuses me! I have spent so much money on Levi's trying to get the fit right and they just sit in the back of my closet because none are flattering. I'm petite (5'1") and curvy and usually wear a 4-6/27. I always need to go up at least a size or two with Levi's and like the mid-sizing, I find the petite/curvy Levi's style options lacking. It's always the less trendy cuts and darker shades. Next.

I exclusively shop Levi's secondhand so I thought all the sizing issues/weirdness I've faced was just because I've been picking up jeans from different years. But this video has helped to VINDICATE all of my negative emotions towards Levi's sizing. I have literally tried on the EXACT same size in multiple pairs of their jeans and each one has fit differently. Make it make sense 🙃
@LoveFinds
@LoveFinds 3 жыл бұрын
This isn’t the technical way but I always see the W as Wide. The size is the same but it is cut for a more plus size (wider) person versus a straight size. For example torrid shoes. A size 9 in their shoes will be wide width. Where as a size 9 in other shoes will fit a person who has a size 9 foot but not a person with a wider foot. I think men’s shoes are definitely designed for that wider fit. As with men’s jeans 😉I think they just are cut differently. I think I find luck in midsize with jeans in plus junior sizing so (xxl / 15 / 13 /17) target wild fable is good for that or 12w 14w 1x 0x for women’s sizing. I look at material. 100% Cotton is an automatic size up. I like them a little tighter, because I believe they mold eventually for the perfect fit. Second hand levis have already been broken in. Jeans w/ Spandex dont do the same. Size charts are your friend. Oh & sometimes you can find exact measurements using Poshmark (or other resale sites) by looking for the exact item in the size you want. Good Luck!

here’s the thing, i’ve tried on a lot of Levi’s styles because I worked for a Levi’s wholesaler and the sizes vary by style. it is annoying, but you basically have to try on all kinds of sizes in different styles. there’s also something about darker washes shrinking in the production process (if I am remembering correctly).
@singerbooks969
@singerbooks969 3 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Especially if it’s dyed with indigo which stiffens the fabric and pulls the weave tighter. That’s why bleached jeans are softer because the fabric is broken down to strip color out of them. So many variables in color alone that you’ll never be the same size even in the store. It sucks but it’s true.

Carrie, I'm 5'9" and more or less your size, and I found that the Ribcages in a size 34 fit me very well, this is also true of the High Loose and the Dad jeans, but in terms of wedgies, I have some pairs of the skinny wedgies in a size 16W. But the ones that fit me the best are the 725 High Rise (they are actually pretty high rise) boot cuts in a 33/34. Levi's always cut the jeans in the same way no matter the 100% of elasticity. So in general a stiff jeans will fit a much smaller size than a stretchy one. And they use their regular numerical size as they used in the 80s, when a number like what is now 12 used to be a 16, a 14 used to be an 18. But the same is not true to the Woman's sizes, those they adjusted to modern times. So yes, there is a gap in sizing within Levi's and what is a size 14 in Levi's is 33 and a size 16 is a 34, but again this will depend on the level of stretchiness.

this is true, but I think there could be less variation if womens pants were sized like mens pants and used actual measurements as the sizes instead of random arbitrary numbers that don't mean the same thing at different stores. the fit in the waist/thighs/hips etc could still vary but at least a 28x30 would hopefully mean a 28 inch waist and 30 inch length across the board!

A regular size 16 is just a straight size 16. A 14W is not actually the same as a 16 regular because a 16 regular is not cut wider. I hope that makes helps and makes sense!

It also depends, Levi's years ago used to be made in America, so they had to adhere to the American trades council and now they are made outside of America where there is not an adherence to any requirements due to trade agreements (in other words $$$$) I've noticed on the tags for jeans they can be made in both Latin American countries and Asian countries. The ones that were made in the Asian countries like Vietnam, or China run smaller and the ones that were made in either in Spain or Guatemala run larger in size.

These kinds of videos are so validating and reassuring! I'm not the one that is the problem here! When I think about the contempt I receive from sales people when they try to find something that is going to fit me in their precious levi's store, I can feel like it's my fault!... I'm also between a 10 and 16 depending on the brand/style/fit/what I ate earlier that day/etc...and sometime it can feel like i'm a "big" problem to others when really I'm ok with my body! So thank you for what you do!

The W in 16W is to show its cut for what is traditionally thought of as a “more mature” woman’s body- hips and thighs slightly larger, bodies that have been pregnant/had babies. The reason it’s not labeled an 18 is because the difference BETWEEN the measurements (waist/hip/thigh) is different than a “straight size” jean, but because it’s more generously cut it FITS an 18 regular.

I have worn Levis for years. In my experience the more Lyrocell there is in a pant, the more true to size it gets when its about high rise jeans from them. I am a size 29, but i am suddently not the less stretch that there are in the pants or the darker the pair is. Mid rise jeans is easier sizing wise it seems, where i am always a size 29 no matter the shade. So dont worry their sizing is shit and you need to try each shade in different sizes because of the stretch/ non stretch factor. Right now i have gone the wrangler route because they actually have cute wide jeans that fit me, without me dying when sitting down. I always do the “sitting down test” to see if my tummy is being crushed or not

I took a chance in the ‘regular’ sizes and size 31 fits me perfectly. However I sent my mother who lives in the US to buy a pair for me in store and that size 31 couldn’t even go up my legs 🤯 and I had to sell it. Why are the jeans labelled as 14, 16, etc? "Everywhere else" (Or at least in Europe) they have two different measures to get a better fit. For example 30x29. 30 is the waist and 29 is the length (in inches). The plus sizes are also like this. 46x30, 46x32, 46x34, 48x30, etc... Why wouldn’t they just use that? No overlapping, no confusion.

Another thing is the type of material the jeans are because the material from the 501’s to the 720’s are completely different in material. The 501’s and rib cage are more of the thick actual Jean material and other jean styles are just very jegging kind of material not all of them but some.

For anyone confused, the numbers 28, 30, 32, etc refer to your waist size in inches when it comes to jeans, so its always best to measure your waist to find your size, but note that you may still have to size up or down depending on company but Im typically a 30 (maybe a 32) and I always buy a 30. I have no idea with plus size since I’m not a plus size person so I obviously wouldn’t know about those sizings 😅 Europe also has a similar size in numbers but it’ll generally say 30w when referring to waist or say waist, it will also likely have 30L next to it which is length

I am somewhere between a 14 and a 16 and I am only 5 foot two. This makes it extremely difficult to find a good fit. When you add to that the fact that every brand fits differently in a 14 and a 16, finding the right size of jeans can be a nightmare. I think I ended up trying on 30 pairs and found one that fit. Just glad to know I'm not alone in this kinda struggle.

The ribcage, and wedgie fits are my favorites, they do fit tight, but our jeans stretch out the more you wear them to fit your body type, so I usually just stick to my true size. I'm pretty curvy as well, and for curvy girls, I recommended you all try the 300 series, since they have more stretch to them, and they are A LOT more comfortable than the other styles. Also, with the sizes, the US size is next to the European sizes so it's actually not that confusing lol. The 700 series, I always recommend everyone go a size up because those are the skinny series and are typically made to fit small. I don't know if this helps but that's kind of the gist for Levi's. It's really not difficult, just like any type of clothing, you just have to try on to find your style!

Great video. In stead of buying all of these in the future you should use the Amazon try before you buy feature, prime wardrobe! Not quite the same as the dressing room but pretty close.

Thanks for making this video, Carrie! It couldn’t have been fun for you, but I got a lot of emotional validation from this. I remember a friend recommended Levi’s to me a few years back, but I felt so defeated when I couldn’t find my size (they didn’t have the plus size jeans available in that store). It means a lot that you went to the trouble to really nail home that our bodies are not the problem 🥰

This was so, so helpful for me. I have almost the exact same body type as you (but I'm not as blessed in the boobage 😭) and Levi's was going to be the next brand I was going to try.. I'm now avoiding that like the plague. The journey continues!

I have NEVER found a good fitting pair of Levi’s. They just do not cater to or care about people that are pare shaped I said it

Levi's has never fit me well unfortunately and I'm a different size/body type than you. I wish they did though because they are so cute! I wonder who are the people/body types that fit them well though???

The 311 S-T-R-E-T-C-H is the way to go for all us badass curvaceous beauties ! I’m a 14/16 UK and find that a 32 waist in this style is great!! Skims our curves - but watch out for the finer detail of fabric - depending upon where they are made will depend on what percent Lycra/elastane is used versus polyester/ cotton Also sizing batches can vary……🤯 I’m a clothes designer! i think I need to make these universal size jeans ! For us all ! and make it a thing!! With tall / petite Some clothes companies are still using outmoded size guides from the 50’s !!!!!!!! Uk 🇬🇧 Anyhooooooo, love the video ! We are all different & one off in our own rights and this should be embraced ❤️
