When I started shopping in different stores, I went for the XL or XLL. I bought shirts that were way too baggy on me because I did not want to try anything smaller.

THIS IS SO IMPORTANT! I am a size 12 and I feel like many of my friends can't fathom being anything bigger than like a size 4 or 6 but they are also just built so much TINIER than I am. I am about 5'10" with hips and boobs and do not consider myself to be overweight but I need a 12 to fit my frame! The stigma that surrounds larger sizes is insane. Many people don't realize you can be a size 10 or 12 and be perfectly healthy and fit!

Missquichante I've found that h&m sizing can be soo different based on colour and design. I've been an xs in some of their stuff but the largest jeans in the store didn't go past my knees. I really don't trust their sizing.

Ahhhh Carrie I loved this video!! I've recently come to realize that even though a lot of my jeans "fit" and I can button and zip them, they don't actually fit as I'm always spilling over them once I sit down or even exhale hahaha. I feel like no one really talks about this kind of issue but it felt so good to hear you bring it up! I was always in denial about going up one (or maybe two) pant sizes, but recently I just got a denim skirt and I decided to buy it a size up so it would actually flatter me and it was the best decision ever! As a certified American Eagle Jean Expert (look it up its legit) American Eagle is in the middle of the road in terms of vanity sizing. Their jeans generally have a lot of give and are made with lycra. As someone whose weight tends to fluctuate, theirs are the best for me since they won't get too uncomfortable when you lose/gain a little bit of weight. The store tends to always have a good stock of a big range of sizes (00-16 usually) as well as the option of short/regular/long styles. They train the employees to be very knowledgeable about jean terminology, what flatters different body types, and how to style them.

Really? I've worked with coworkers of all shapes and sizes (super thin to plus size) and they all have found jeans that they're confident in. I have a small waist but a bigger butt and AE are the only jeans that don't give me an awkward gap in the back. I also gained about 20 pounds from medication and I moved a size up no problem. With the height thing, there are a lot of stylish ways you could cuff the jeans if the regular are a bit too long and the short are a bit too short. You might find that you look better in high waisted jeans too.

I took my hip and waist measurements so I could order the right size, according to their charts, at forever 21... and the skirt I got, a stretchy skater skirt, was way too small. It’s insane.

I think it may be because the owner or founder is Asian and Asian places tend to run small which may be why forever 21 runs small since it is owned by an Asian person.

So i fluctuate from like a size 14 to 16 and sometimes even an 18 depending on the store and once I told a friend this and they were like there is no way your that big. At the time I laughed about it because I got that they were trying to be nice/funny but those comments sometimes hurt. Man! I wish you had been making this 8 years ago when I was in high school! I was 5’10 and a size 10-12 and completely struggling with body image issues. My friends said the things that I’m sure you’ve heard, “I can’t believe you’re that big!” “I’m only a 6”! I was engaging In bulimic behaviors and did a lot of damage to my body because of the comments you talked about. Thanks for what you’re doing! This is fabulous! Size doesn’t matter. Bodies are all vastly different. We all carry weight differently based on height, muscle mass, genetics, diet, and lifestyle. I would love to see you try this at some other stores! In my experience (like you mentioned), Forever 21 and H&M sizing is all over the place. I am anywhere from a 4 to a 10 in pants from H&M depending on the particular pair. It sucks that they can't be consistent at least within their own store 🙄

Carrie thank you for bringing this subject up... All sizes fit differently it depends on which store you get shirts or jeans at... I can wear a adult small or large and for jeans from american eagle I can wither fit a 6 or 8 and I am not built small... I have some weight on me but if I was skinny I would be built really small

I was told the same thing! I'm a size 12 or 14 but since I'm so small I'm like 5"3 people tento to tell me I'm size 16 and I'm like no. I look bigger coz I'm short but I'm those sizes 😂😂😂 I'm just the same size as you but you look skinnier than me coz you are taller. Is really that simple and people don't understand that. Also yesterday I saw you for the first time in a video comparing the same exact clothing item with another girl that is the same sizes as you but she is shorter. I love that video!!!

I love how you don't care about the number only the fit. I spent so much time in my life getting upset because I didn't fit a number that doesn't make sense anyway. From the same store I have a pair of shorts uk size 8 that are a bit roomy and a t-shirt size 16 that is fairly tight. Nobody knows what size you're wearing and it's taken me a long time to realise it doesn't matter! Thanks for this video, I wish I'd seen it 5/6 years ago!!

We're about the same size but I carry more in my thighs and butt than my stomach. I usually have the opposite problem where pants are too loose around my waist and tight around my thighs. I only get pants at Fashion Nova now.

omg, I love this video! and people say this to me all the time. I​ am 5'8" and wear a size 10 jeans most of the time, and people say things like oh you're too tiny to be a size 10. like a lot of the time my thighs are too big for certain sizes of jeans and shorts.

Size 12 is size 16 in the Uk. Two sizes difference. I am a size 6 and sometimes even a size 4 which is a 2 and 0 in the US.
