I thrifted a gorgeous designer 50s two piece ball gown style wedding dress. The top is a halter corset with hand beaded bust cups and the cutest little bow. The bottom has a built in crinoline and a small train (it's very poofy). AND it fits perfectly! I got it for $15 back in college, years before I even met my husband lol. You'll find your dress in time!

i thrifted a gorgeous wedding dress a few years ago too and this comment gave me hope! i'm only 18, so marriage seems pretty far for me at the moment, but i can't wait to possibly wear it on my wedding day... it's got loads of tulle in the skirt and gorgeous puff sleeves with little pink roses and even a huge bow on the back, it's super pretty!

@@nevermoreart I think I thrifted my first wedding dress in highschool! I dyed it and used it as a prom dress and then shortened it to use as a fairy costume for ren faire! Been legally married for a few years now (I'm 23for ref) and stlill haven't gotten the opportunity to wear my dress bc I haven't had a ceremony (and likely won't). But I have to get pictures in it at the very least!!

Remember vintage sizing is crazy different. A size 8 vintage is a 2 or a 4 depending on the period/ cut of the dress.

With thrift store wedding dresses a lot of people would have done alterations to them to fit their specific body. Some brides buy a dress and lose a few sizes; whilst some might gain. So you might find that the size indicated might not always be an actual one.

Key is to know your measurements or know your vintage size range. I am a current size 3/4 so I know that a size 12/14 in vintage almost always fits. Sometimes other sizes fit also but it depends on the shape of the item. It amazes me sometimes tho how small vintage clothing is 😅

That's because you're not an XS or whatever. I'm the same (based on visual estimation we are about the same size and shape) and let me tell you vintage is so rarely for anyone but size small-extra small. I never find vintage anything in my size, everything is soooo small.
@alanafay2 ай бұрын
Honestly yeah, I’m a size small 4/6ish with a 28” waist, but I’m curvy so that seems to be the issue. However, I actually get lucky and find vintage that fits me ALL THE TIME, just .. wedding dresses are hard. I feel like women so often lost weight for their weddings and also the dresses were tailored to specific measurements so idk. Also, people were generally smaller than today. Idk
@helmaschine18852 ай бұрын
The reason is that most people don't have kids that are XS and so they can't easily be changed, so they flood the market. Meanwhile, medium or large can be easily remade to be more modern.

Love realistic thrift try ons. I tend to gravitate towards the women's section more than the men's so most things that look like they fit don't end up working out. Even the men's pants section tends to not work out well. Easy way to save money though, haha.

Just FYI wedding dresses don't have the same history of vanity sizing that our everyday clothes do. That goes for modern wedding dresses too. So your likely to me a much larger size in wedding dresses. Don't feel discouraged. This is just what your size would be if vanity sizing wasn't around to fuck with our minds.
