At an Osmo demo for our turning club, the gentleman told me to seal with the ultra thin, let dry, then use the original. The thin penetrates and seals better. The original builds better

I’m not an expert but I’ve watched a number of Osmo KZbin videos and they put very little finish on the piece then work it in. They showed wood floors table tops and other furniture. It just appears from what I saw you were very liberal and not stretching the Osmo out. The abrasive pads acts as sanding. Like I said I’m far from qualified to say yes or no. Use paraffin wax to seal jelly jars.

Thanks for the information! I have had a bottle of sunflower oil go rancid, not a nice smell. Perhaps they process in a way to eliminate that?

That is far too much oil being applied. You only use a very small amount or you will have issues at some point. OSMO specifically states this. That is why there are so many complaints on woodworking pages. Pretty sure you only got away with it because it was already so thin. I love OSMO products and use them regularly, both inside and out.
