Last week I tried Corel Painter 2019 when it first came out. I was working with the thick paint brushes, today I thought I would give watercolour a try. Having never used Painter before I was aware there is a steep learning curve. I wondered if I could produce a painting without having to watch any tutorials. Watch the video to find out how I got on

I learnt to draw digitally in Painter.... nothing like jumping into the deep end ☺️ I’m so glad I did, it is complex.... there’s so much you can get from it when you learn to use the brushes, papers, textures & settings (which are many). This was 4 yrs ago, & in that time Corel has featured much of my art, now I’m a Painter Master & work with Corel in other capacities. This has no bearing on my personal feelings about Painter, it’s my favourite software by far, I do use PS & Procreate also.... but in a more limited capacity. I think if you spend the time you will really fall in love with Painter. Btw, with the brush diffusion, you can stop it if it’s at a point you like, & you can also dry the paper.

@@SteveElliottArt no worries, it does take time to learn the brush engines & way they work with paper etc... but so worth it ☺️

I think this mirrors my previous experience in that there are so many choices of brushes and settings; it takes a long time to get what you are looking for. The extraction of a pallet is a great feature, but other tools/apps are at least quicker. I like mood of the painting.

Thanks Rick. I've discovered palettes since this video and have made a custom pallet with a set of watercolour tools. This has speeded up my Painting massively

Steve Elliott, I have never seen anyone jump into Painter like this! It is a very difficult program, you are such a natural, I just love your work:-) It took me a year to figure out the ins and outs of Painter, LOL!

I totally love Painter 19 but I'm clueless on how to use it properly. I think your video is brilliant. And you've given me some insight to how you can accomplish a very appealing work of art in this medium. Cheers!!

Steve Elliott Very 😎, I'm going to enjoy it! Here's an artist for your painting in the style of series, Thomas Roberts (Australian Impressionist) is what he became known as... Google him. I'd like to see what you do in the style of him.

Cracking video Steve! I don't know whether you are going to stick with Painter, but before your trial period is up, could I suggest you check out brush creation, as the effects you can achieve are almost infinite, and would certainly compliment your painting style. Thanks again for sharing your work.

Do you use Painter from time to time still? I was feeling a bit overwhelmed, but your vid helped! 👍 Wonder why your videos don't seem to pop up nearly as high as they should when I search for a particular medium/program. 🤷‍♂️

Hi Sean, I do and still make videos for painter, infact I’ve just bought painter 2020, but haven’t installed it yet. A while back I did several live streams using painter each a couple of hours long. Might be worth checking out

Over the last 20 years I have given Corel a lot of money only to have them ask for more and more to upgrade. I finally had enough. I’m done. I have abandoned all of my Corel software in favour of Procreate and Art Studio Pro.

Hi Robert, I think the iPad pro has opened up the field for quality apps at an affordable price. Both Procreate and Art Studio Pro are excellent. Although I am new to Corel Painter so I'll reserve judgment until the upgrade comes out. I will way up new features against cost

I know how you feel, but Corel Painter IS probably considered the leader in this field. I used Procreate, Artrage, Autodesk and others but frustratingly Painter remains top dog in my opinion, and worth persevering with, if only to scratch the surface

It's a shame that Painter 2019 has little to no tech support. In my opinion, 2019 is either broken or they just outsourced their customer service. I made the mistake of upgrading and my brush packs no longer work. More than 2 weeks later and no solution. Is anyone else receiving this kind of support? So much for being a valued customer. I love the demo, thanks!!

Hi ravenstonez. I have recently tried Rebelle 3 and the watercolours are excellent. It is on my to buy list when I have the funds. I have made one video using Rebelle. The watercolour tool is so much easier and intuative to use compared to Corel Painter.
