Hi Everyone. I tested out different paints on silicone moulds to see what would happen to them when the resin was put in. I was shocked at the results and was surprised when this happened with one of the paints.

Tip: add a pinch or two of corn starch to your acrylic paint and it will thicken it up AND make the color so much more bold! It will also adhere better :) you can do the same thing with the inks….

Will have to try that! But, my acrylic paints are the bottled kind, so very watery compared to the tube type.
@ZippedUpKitz
@ZippedUpKitz 7 ай бұрын
@@margaretmathis4775 I use the bottled kind too… if they are too watery, just add a pinch, or a teaspoon of cornstarch… start with small amounts and add more if you need to… the only problem with this is that it will dry out quicker but you can add a drop or two of water or more paint if need be… good luck!!!

I use acrylic paint. One time i forgot to let it dry before pouring the resin. Funny enough you mentioned Alice in Wonderland, because it was Alice i did. Anyway, because I didnt let it dry Alice had no face 😱 because only the skin colour transferred. It looks super creepy 😳 I can tell you. I only use mica powder directly in the moulds if it's chameleon powder because in my option it looks better instead of mixing it into the resin ☺️

I've used the resin pigments mixed into resin, and that way they work brilliantly, I'm surprised the one you made with the magenta worked even that well. It might be a useful effect in some projects. Oil paint takes forever to dry, no wonder it was all messy still. I wonder how it would do, if you left it to dry for two weeks - then again, no-one has time to wait that long. Acrylics are the way to go!

That was useful info Steve. I love acrylic paints, they can be used for so many crafts to decorate or add details like on those cards. The card you used the resin pigment liquid on was lovely in its own way. A whole pack done like that would look really amazing I think. With a gilded edge it would look pretty impressive. What do you think?

Oil paints take a long time to cure. I wouldn't have poured resin on it for at least 24 hours. Longer if it's been applied thickly. Some oils take years to fully cure all the way through.

The oil paint didn’t work because it takes a lot longer to dry than acrylic. With a layer of oil paint that thick it would take about 48 hours , give or take, to dry. I do paintings with oil, so I can tell you that the purpose behind this is to give an extended amount of time for workability and for blending.

I plan on making earrings, bracelets, necklaces, keyrings and magnets and hopefully start a small local business from home. I'm quite disabled physically and suffer from a heart condition also, so its not something I'll be able to do every day of the week but sit at a desk I bought ready, put my safety gear on, and see what in physically able to do 😀 I'm very excited! Even if i manage one thing at a time it's exciting to think ive found something I might actually be able to do! I have all the info I need written down and ill be starting next week. Steve, could you do a color fastness test of different color methods? Not all dyes, paints, inks are created equal & Ive been told the color of alcohol inks especially change & fade over time. Especially when exposed to UV light (sunlight) maybe you could make up a bunch of these cards using all different coloring methods, either making two of each or just taking before & after phots? But plop one of each outside in full sunlight & see what happens week to week to determine which are best to use in items that will be exposed to sunlight.

there's no way you let the oil pain dry - it takes weeks to fuly solidify unless you use somekind of speed drying medium (like liquin for exmpl) and than it also takes days... Nevertheless - interesting test.
