It's always a joy to watch you do tastings. You're both honest but polite. 😄 By your happy reactions, I think the salmon would have been my favorite onigiri. Your advice to double the filling in the beef and scallop onigiri and raise the price makes perfect sense. I think most people are happy to pay more for a significantly tastier product.👍❤️❤️

I've watched your Hokkaido local train videos a few times and I loved seeing more of the places that you wouldn't see on the shinkansen train journey and the food was great too. Once the covid situation settles I'd love to see another local train trip like that maybe to Kyushu perhaps. As for the onigiri they looked delicious but that wagyu beef one was a disappointment for not having enough beef, otherwise it would have been the winner instead of the saba for me. Great video guys 💙💙💙

Hi my handsome boys! I loved watching this video! You’re so lucky that you have premium onigiri, and I have to agree with you both, in that the Saba and Sake onigiri looked amazing! I’m not a huge scallop fan, but I still remember watching you both fish for scallop in Aomori a couple of years ago. I think you mentioned that they no longer do that? Zannen deshita ne, about the Kuro wagyu beef onigiri. Bummer! My all time favorite onigiri filling is to take a handful of bonito flakes, pour shoyu over it, with a gloved hand, squeeze off the shoyu, then put that ball of bonito deliciousness right into the middle, then form the onigiri. Thanks for sharing boys! ♥️♥️

I am so jealous. In Germany (Düsseldorf) a normal tuna mayonnaise onigiri costs 431.27 yen (€ 3.50). Wish there were more Japanese Shops here. Sushi is also quite expensive here. I miss Japan. By the way.. Love your Vidios. 😉 Watch them as a good night ritual. 😁

started making them myself. Its really cheep that way. 200 grams of rice become 10 Onigiri. My favorite filling is Minced meat boiled in soy sauce with carrot and onion. Tuna ones are the cheepest to make haha xD

Our taste buds change so it's a good idea to retry things throughout the years. I used to dislike green olives in my 20's now 😋 I like to give things 3 tries because quality differs from place to place for a few reasons.

Maybe start with milder light fish like haddock, halibut, grouper or cod. Exposure plays a large role in taste preferences too, sometimes you just need to unlearn a bias you had when you were a kid. I used to hate mustard and mushrooms but eventually learned to love them.

Catchy Name Another thing I’ve found is that some flavors are too intense, but I enjoy them when combined with other flavors, or cooking changes it. Raw black olives? No way, but on a pizza? Yum. Raw tomatoes? I try all the time, still too intense. Mixed in with other flavors? Pretty okay. Cooked. Yum!

Most expensive one of these is almost US$2. When I can even find onigiri in the US, $1.75 gets something with a bit of shredded salmon mixed into the rice or just spicy mayonnaise. Something this nice would probably cost between $3 and $4.

@keevansixx41854 жыл бұрын
quick and dirty basic homemade recipe: fresh ginger root. peel the skin off. slice thinly with a kitchen knife or use a food slicer with a shave feature. toss slices with a little bit of sea salt and let sit for 30 minutes. pack a mason jar with ginger slices and a little sugar. fill the rest of the jar with rice vinegar. seal and let sit in fridge for a couple of weeks (or somewhere relatively cool) to allow the rice vinegar to work it's magic. spicy, crispy, and very strong. The pink ginger slices you see in restaurants are mass fermented in huge tanks. It's possible to do at home with the right tools like a crock fermenter and the right starter lactic acid bacteria base, but not too many people have easy access to those tools. In the states, Lehman's hardware store carries European style fermentation crocks with the water lock seal if you wish to try your hand at fermentation pickling at home. the only thing after that is finding the correct lactic acid bacterium starter to make picked ginger. (also good for making kimchi)

I LIVE for Onigiri. In the UK I've only been able to make my own. I'm so sad that if we could get these ready made in supermarkets here we could probably only get them in "high end" supermarkets where they would happily charge at least £4-5 per onigiri . One uk £ is around 136 yen. When you put the words salmon and scallop even near it it would be even more... im so jealous. Me and my 6year old son love binge watching your uploads.
