The Russian Dumpling is good. It fits perfect on tomato sauce/ketchup, that is for dipping, since the dumpling has many versions amongst countries.

I just learned about your channel a few days ago. Planning my trip to LA next month, and want to see where to take my family. So I don't know if you did any reviews or Little Armenia restauraunts. I would love to see those. So far enjoyed all of your videos, really considering Kosteat (that potato skewer, I know that probably would be the only thing my 6 y.o. would want, and I'm really looking forward to cheezy potato hot dog and fried squid). But I want to check this place out as well now.

The beet soup Borsch is originally a Ukrainian national dish, many different spellings too. The beet soup is not just meat & beets & cabbage but kvas (fermented stale rye or wheat bread or buckwheat) is an important ingredient to give that sweet sour taste. There are many variations depending on what region of Ukraine you are in. Most individuals that never had it said they like the soup once they tried it. As for Vareniki, pronunciation is Va-rĕ-ni-ki, both i is short sound. I like the way you enjoyed the food & tried to describe it. Vareniki are cooked in water & fried they are known as pierogies

So true. The real, good borsch is Ukrainian. What he was served is more the Russian style. Too watery. Not enough substance. And varenyky is Ukrainian. Pierogy is Polish. Different names for dumplings.

I loved loved this episode although I do enjoy a variety of asian cuisines I grew up on eating Russian food at home so this is close to home food you will find in Los Angeles West Hollywood, CA area. New York has that area brighten beach which has grandma style cooking at cafes that are not found here in Southern California. The Ukrainian borscht is made on the beef. My grandma and mom make it the vegetarian way which is on veggie broth for borscht. At my home I make it on the chicken broth the borscht. In the valley check out Caviar and Delicatessen Russian-Armenian Deli & Grocery Store in North Hollywood. Herring fish is my favorite item to eat whenever I would gather with my family and if it is on the table that would be the first thing I would grab. It is salty so do watch out for that because they brine it in some juice and salt. Stuffed cabbage is another family favorite I grew up eating. Glad you enjoyed trying this place as I used to drive from the valley to here to get the food items but now I found a place that is more similar to what my family has cooked at home and it is closer to my home.

it is Olivier Salad. Why do you introduce it as Potato salad? When you say potato salad, it can be anything from one of the hundreds of potato salad versions. But, when you say Olivier salad, it describes exactly that recipe. Outside Russia it is known as Russian salad. If you are introducing foods to other people, it should be in the right way, not in the way you prefer. You may consider this as a casual talk, but it becomes a record and reference for people who are going to learn this for the first time from you. Otherwise you do a great job.

Adorable how you guys try to snatch literally anything from your neighbours to build up this phantom of a 'rich native Ukrainian culture', but no, neither of these dishes is uniquely Ukrainian. Borsch is commonly East Slavic, golubtsy/golabki are most likely Polish in origin, the rest is solely Russian.
@MultiOlelukoe10 ай бұрын
@elmukaltino It's more like the opposite, most of russian culture is foreign but has been russified, and not only that, until the 18th century, russia was considered a state that was Asian, golubtsi are a classic Ukrainian dish, same as everything else, russia liked to steal and russify everything they found.
