Another favorite Cuban restaurant is El Colmao in Los Angeles. Growing up, this was our go-to Cuban place. It is truly authentic (OG Cuban restaurant in LA) and delicious.

I guess it makes sense to try each thing seperate, but you got to pour the beans all over the rice, and eat a bite of the rice/beans, platano maduro, and some pork all in one bite :)

Hey there! A new subscriber here (well as of recently) been binging a few of your videos over the last few weeks. I'm Cuban American and while that restaurant is good (I live close by and have had it a few times) I must recommend you try El Cochinito in Silver Lake. They actually won "Best Cuban Sandwich' award a few years ago, beating some of the best places in Miami. Their lechon asado is definitely the best around Los Angeles! Give it a shot!!! :) Off to watch a few more of your videos. Cheers!

Great video and excellent choices, but I am disappointed you didn't mention the taste of the fried plantains. Our food is often called "plain" (well, only by Mexicans lol), but it's because each and every bite is intended to be eaten with the hyper sweetness of the plantain mixed in (a little bit goes a long way). Cubans simply cannot enjoy our food without the fried plantains. There are also variations on the theme like tostones. But When platanitos frito or tostones are not available (or when we need to cut back on the grease) a regular old banana in the plate is the go-to substitute.

P.S. Here are some other dishes...Ropa Vieja, Masitas de Puerco Fritas, Arroz con Pollo, Carne con Papa, Bistec Empanizado, Filete de Pollo Emapnizado...the list goes on...Oh and try Mariquitas (thin and crispy fried plantain chips, but when they are fresh they are out of this world.

Actually everything looks amazing, just really traditional cuban food doest not have any cilantro sauce( that is a very smart bussisnes idea for LA market) Also there is not fries in cuba with any red powder over them, just rested potatos in water with garlic and salt before fried. Im not trying to be mean with anyone, just a professional comment. Everything looking very good. Over all, over 9.0 small cuban restaurant. Very proud!!!!!

Not sure why they had a cilantro sauce for the potato balls; it’s meant to be eaten on its own. Also, just a fun fact any “Cuban” food you come across that’s spicy it’s not authentic. Our food is full of flavor but not spicy at all. We don’t like spiciness. Some Cubans may have adjusted and gotten used to spicy foods but traditional Cuban food isn’t spicy at all. The guava with cheese should had been given Cuban crackers on the side. It’s the best way to have it.
