The genuine joy and emotion you show when eating food that excites you is the reason I keep coming back and watching your videos. We don't have much in my area in the way of Asian and Chinese foods other than the usual Chinese takeaway that has been anglicised for our tastes. Definitely couldn't handle all that chilli oil myself!

In Cantonese (or at least in HK), it’s “tofu flower” instead of “brain”, so watching this makes a lot more sense to me why people didn’t know what I was talking about when I was in mainland 😂

I was in Shanghai couple years ago and had no problems ordering “tofu flower”. Probably the place that I went to had alot of non locals so they understood.

I always saw “tofu flower” in Taiwan too. It was only in the US that I’ve seen it referred to as “tofu brain” in restaurants owned by mainland Chinese. 😝

My boss and I have really bonded over hotpot. I bought a pot and hadn’t gotten a cooker yet. He gave me his spare, then started getting me his favourite bases and dipping sauces. Hotpot brings people together ❤️

There was a place in Pacific Mall Toronto (hasn't reopened yet in stage 3 but I think their standalone restaurant is open) called Papa Changs that does good Taiwanese popcorn chicken and the mince pork over rice. I also tried the cold noodle and pork burger spot that Mikey went to, and it is good. My uncle does his own silk tofu and soy milk, its fantastic fresh. Absolutely no comparison.

I can't wait for the Pacific Mall to reopen. I only got to go there once before everything hit (I'm 3.5 - 4 hrs away, so it's a big day trip) but I loved just wandering around and getting things I can't get in London; don't get me wrong - I love my Food Island but I can't get all of the Japanese stuff I like, mostly the Korean and Chinese stuff though.

I had this kind of hotpot in Chongqing. It's called 九宫格 (Nine squares) and I think it's a specialty there. And they don't ever change the broth base, or so I've heard.
