I've been waiting for somebody to make this video. My ground spiral is roughly where her's is right now and I've been playing with it on and off for a while now. That session in the sand is what I needed. Thank you

I've done a different video some months ago when I was practicing it for the first time and only managed to get it properly once. Practicing on a slope, like a takeoff, is quite a bit easier but potentially more dangerous. Hope to do another video on it when once we've actually nailed it. Thanks for watching dude

I think the part of the trick which hasn't been explained well is the "flight back". In most of her attempts, she has too much brakes when wing is reversed and it's messy stalled. First you pierce the stall with on break, then you release it to reach the flightback position, and the outside brakes goes down to that position, which keeps the glider off the ground, then you release outside as you said. To master the ground heli (which I can't do properly myself with a full size Xc wing yet :( ) she needs to practice her flightback on the ground, see how much imput she has to put in. Good luck ;)

Fair comments Leo, after the session when I was editing it and watching the footage I had some questions about my explanation too. I think I need to spend some more time on it to get it really good with small and bit wings and then do a follow up video on it :)
@PhilippeLarcher3 жыл бұрын
@@AndreBandarra1 I kind of deducted from your explanation (and trying to visualize during the subsequent attempts) that the other brake input was to keep it off the ground in flyback; but could have been more straightforward indeed :p

Awesome work Gemma !!!! This is the only ground handling challenge I have yet to complete and after really watching the move's Andre makes when hes doing it, it really makes sense to me ... kinda like a dance move in each position the gliders in with smooth transitions ...he even moves his hips too ..... anyhow great work both of you 😉👍 I know Geti g has a How to ground Heili and misty twist on KZbin and it's good to see the steps from different people, perspectives, as well as gliders.. I'll post a video of me failing at it once the weather breaks out here and winds are up 😎👍

Ahhhh, I can relate. I am at the similar stage she’s at during the end of her session. So frustrating to not get that last 180 degree turn consistently and further off the ground. We’ll just keep practicing, using Geti G’s explanation and loads of practice.

This video is over a year old now so might not help you. But to anyone else watching it may. If you are trying to learn a ground heli I suggest mastering backfly kiting first. This means being able to spin your wing to backfly, kiting it there for as long as you want, being able to catch wakes, and then turn it back over when you want. Doing this will progressively teach you about how much brake to pull so you don't pull too much, and about how to use your weight shift properly. Then go back to learning a ground heli and it will be much easier.

She is awesome. I am a little bit depressed how quickly she goes forward. :-) I have to book some trip somewhere with coastal laminar wind. Training once a while, in semi-turbulent continental condition and I will be forever GH-beginer :-D Is it possible that with bigger wing you have more momentum and when you initiate spin it is easier to finish it. Seed is light so it stops spinning quickly, what do you think?

I've tried it with 3 wings of different sizes and I think the bigger the wing the more inertia it has and the harder it is to get it spinning fast. But also it reacts slower so you have more time to think and do the correct inputs

I’ve just been trying this on my seed before watching this video. Hopefully this will help. I keep slamming leading edge halfway through. Poor old seed has had some hammer! It’s back fly part keeping off ground I’m not quite there yet
@AndreBandarra18 ай бұрын
Great to hear it’s getting some good use Emma! Another exercise that might help is to try just the back fly part. Turn your glider upside down and try to keep it off the group just with the brakes. The sweet spot is hard to hit and it’s almost never stable, so keeping it in the air upside down is a constant battle and usually requires very fast and big inputs on the brakes. Think about keepy uppies on a football, you always have to work hard to keep from dropping the ball. Hope it helps!
