About a year ago I started an incredibly stressful job in the public mental health field, and started a membership at my local climbing gym at the same time. I was instantly hooked by the mindful nature of climbing and it became my most important form of self care. I wanted to get better, so I took to KZbin for guidance and I found Magnus. This guy has inspired me and helped me with my climbing more than anyone and for that I’m so grateful! Thank you so much Magnus!!!

Great episode. I have been climbing at Touchstone (and PG) Bay Area gyms for over 20 years and this is certainly up there as one of the best of the Bay. It should be noted though that this gym is in Oakland, not San Francisco.

@@orionma5425 Oakland real estate isn't much cheaper in all fairness, it's only 15-20 mins away from SF. But yeah all of the warehouses in SF that a gym like this could convert into a climbing space have been owned by big tech for the past 10-15 years.

Honestly watching Magnus' video seriously got me into climbing. I used to climb on and off before, with friends and whatnot, but now I'm watching nerdy specialized videos on YT, replays from commpetitions, going climbing once to twice a week depending on my schedule and really feeling progress in both strengh and technique, it's an amazing feeling. Thank you Magnus, for inspiring me to go back to the wall more consistently

Glad to see you make it to Pacific Pipe in Oakland, Magnus! This is my home gym where I meet with my climbing group. Among other amenities, this place has programmable lockers (so no need to bring your own locks), showers, and a dry sauna. I remember coming when it opened Summer 2021 and thinking it was so huge that it felt like a climbing theme park!

I loved this gym so much my wife and I took a day off and traveled here. I absolutely love it. She says she’d rather stay local and climb with friends. Of course she’s right. The best gym is the one with your local climbing community. So maybe we have to move to Oakland 😂

Dear Magnus, that gym just opened so I think this is why the rating is so good. It's also in Oakland (near sf) but, its not in SF. But, there are 2 touchstone gyms in SF and they are awesome too. To be fair Pac Pipes is amazing. Thank you for coming to Cali !

Woo, welcome to the bay! Pacific Pipe's the biggest climbing gym in the US, but for bouldering you've gotta check out Dogpatch Boulders back in SF proper too. It's got like 2x the bouldering square footage and even more interesting route setting (though I think the same route setters). Pacific Pipe is an awesome gym, but it's possible that Pacific Pipe has a higher rating than Dogpatch because it's brand new. While you're in town, I hope you can make it to Dogpatch!

Never climbed but watching your videos about an year already, they are addictive really, thanks for quality! As just an observer I can say how much power Anton is putting in where Magnus is doing it with half of that power (I can see the difference between the tension of their muscles), so I guess it's all about technic, not power. So keep trying Anton, you only need some practice, don't relate just on your power, but understanding where to push and where to release.

Could be stock stuff here for sure but he typically scouts out the location and does a variety of filming in the area if he can when he travels. He's documented his process on here a couple times.

When I first started not long ago, I learned my leg techniques from watching Magnus climb. He seems to have the best leg work that suits my proportions. And because my hamstrings are one of my strong points that I don’t want to waste.

LOVE Pacific Pipe! It's such a great gym. But it's in Oakland, not San Francisco. Touchstone route setters are fantastic! As far as I've seen, Touchstone gyms don't care if you go shirtless or not.

I don’t think that the music thing should’ve contributed to the scoring because it’s a commercial gym. If you were invited to film or if you asked all of the other customers for permission I’d say that it could be considered but it’s a public business after all.

I think rating them lower for not turning off the music is kind of harsh. I don’t believe a climbing gym should have to cater to your needs simply because you’re a well renowned climber with a KZbin channel. A gym shouldn’t be rated based off of how good it is to film your videos, it should be rated on how good it is to climb there. I love you Magnus, been following your channel for years, but that kind of put a sour taste in my mouth.

Most of the time I couldn’t care less what music is playing while climbing cause that’s not why I’m there. I’d guess most people wouldn’t even notice the music shut off had they done it, given all the ambient fan noise.

It’s really unfair to drop a score because they wouldn’t bend to your wishes. Unless no one else is there, it’s still a business and people have expectations when they go to their gym. Music is one of them.

No offence Magnus but you can’t expect the staff to turn off the music just because you are shooting a youtube video. They have other customers that enjoy listening to music while they climb. In my opinion you shouldn’t give a lower score over something as minuscule as that. Great video though!

I would like to watch a multi part series of you guys climbing every single wall in one of these climbing gyms. Start with every V0 then V1s and so on up to the hardest routes. You could fly through all the easy ones and also see what route setters change with each new grade. I think it would be cool to see
