Exactly. Country fairs were all about contests of baking, animal husbandry, sewing talents, horse riding, quilting, etc etc….. still is like that in most smaller towns. My daughter was 4H with her horse and won a ton of ribbons.

👋 Aussie here! I saw those battered potatoes on another US fair video on here about two years ago and THEY ARE REAL indeed! There's just a state by state naming war for them here, they're either called potato scallops (cause they're a thick scalloped slice similar to ones used for a creamy cheesy potato bake/potato au gratin) in New South Wales (where Sydney is), Queensland or Western Australia, they're called potato cakes in Victoria or potato fritters in South Australia or Northern Territory! 😁

If not that then I'm not sure if your friend frequents the beach or not cause they're a common item to buy from a takeaway or fish n chip shop and have been around for 70+ years! They're a fish n chip shop staple and many people prefer them than hot chips/fries with added on chicken salt (Aussie invention too, a morish seasoning) then you go sit at the beach burning your mouth eating them fresh and hot is a common childhood memory for many Aussies 😋😁

Battered potato is an argument in Australia. It is a thick slice of potato dipped in batter and deep fried. Some states call it a potato scallop, some a potato fritter others a potato cake. We also do the same thing with Pineapple slices, with that is Tasmania puts salt on them, while in South Australia we used to put icing sugar on them.

We were in Dallas, Tx, for the Chosen Con. It was amazing! Little did we know the state fair was in progress, so we had to go! You all HAVE to go. They had so much food! We tried the original corny dog. NOPE, it's not good. We didn't try any more fried food, but they had fried butter, fried beer, and fried cheesecake, among other fried foods.

Those little pigs can live up to 25-years of age, so it’s very reasonable to think those are the same ones year after year. Especially if you consider the training that goes into them to do the special race tricks and such. The trainers would keep them around for as long as possible. So dang cute.

I was hoping you would of showed THE ART OF MUSIC. It was a great experience to walk thru. You all need to go back and check that out. The other thing I was hoping you would try is a drink I found hidden by the shopping building. These cocktails were in a can but they were very good. The one we tried was called KOKOMO’s mystique, you will not be disappointed 😊😂. Oh yeah my take in that fried s’mores was a lil different than yours, it tasted like a pancake lol but I still liked it. And yes it was missing that burnt marshmallow lol.

I still remember that last year, I wanted to go to the fair again (after last going in August 2021 with my sister and grandma) because my favorite band was part of the concert lineup at the Pacific Amphitheater. However, I was not allowed to go because my family had plans with cousins who were visiting on the same day. Luckily, the show was canceled, so I was able to focus all of my attention on those plans.

This fair has an added extra cost attraction, a concert venue with touring recognizable acts. I had a high school acquaintance who got a day job erecting a carnival ride, in a parking lot.. After it was assembled, he had to take the first ride, to try it out. I guess it was their version of a safety program. He got stuck on the top and said he was hanging on by only one rail for about half an hour. It was a ride where you go straight up inside a tube simulating a rocket on the outside and then spiral down on the outside , a vertical roller coaster. My acquaintance, out of all the people I knew, would be the last person I would choose for any mechanical understanding.

The Calgary Stampede which is a massive Rodeo and Fair gets some really bizzare foods in each year. One of the more memorable ones was scorpion pizza. Im not bold enough to try the bug stuff, but i did try the Prairie oyster ice cream a few years back (if you know you know) This year I tried Elk pepperoni pizza with frssh spinach. It was very tasty
