Just a heads up, that opening at the bottom of the obsidian 2, that shows the bottom of the lever, is so you can shove a phillips head in there to anchor it while you tighten or loosen the bat/ball top. Without that you won't get it tight enough and the top will pretty quickly come undone and twist off. (Ask me how I know that last part)

I still don’t get why arcade stick manufacturers keep hard-wiring the USB cable to the PCB. Just put a USB-C port on the stick & include a detachable cable like what 90% of keyboard makers are already doing, it’s better for longevity in case the cable eventually wears out. Also, I wish more manufacturers would do leverless variants of their sticks. As far as officially licensed gear goes, Victrix has a monopoly on the leverless controller market.
@gamerfcapuno
@gamerfcapuno Жыл бұрын
The more detachable parts, the more points of failure that the device can have. Even on the sticks I built, the cables or ports will often fail and require replacement. It’s something I’m willing to do because I care about it, but most people would just want the thing to work. You don’t want to have customer support deal with people who will constantly phone in for people using incompatible cables or ports not reading cables/sending data. It’s more efficient to push the choice to mod the cable onto the user if they so desire.
@spooky6703

@Neoxon619
@Neoxon619 Жыл бұрын
@@gamerfcapuno Either way you slice it, the cable is the usual first point of failure. And it’s easier to just swap the cable then be forced to buy a new stick or have the skills to go into the PCB & replace the cable via soldering. Cables not being compatible typically isn’t an issue when it comes to sticks, that’s more of a smart phone problem. Like I said in the original comment, there’s a reason why 90% of keyboard manufacturers have switched to a detachable USB-C port for their keyboards.

@voidstar.studio
@voidstar.studio Жыл бұрын
@@Neoxon619 USB-C ports are extremely easy to break just from wiggling the cable around. The solder connections can start to fail intermittently and cause disconnects in tournaments that lose you the round (as has happened to some Snackbox users recently). On a full-size stick, a locking connector with solid contacts and strain relief like the one used on the Hitbox is the way to go for a detachable cable that shouldn't have issues for a very long time.

Man, no detachable cable is a bit of a killer. Not that I'm looking at a new stick necessarily (not after how much I spent on my Etokki Omni o_o), but even as someone just playing at my computer, not having to reach down and fiddle with the cable at my tower is a massive convenience. I understand why they don't have a detachable cable, but it's unfortunate.

@KazamaPrime Arcade sticks are large enough that they could use a much larger and more robust connector than micro USB, and they can even make it user serviceable with how large arcade sticks are. Most of the stick is already user serviceable anyways. Most third party detachable cable solutions (like the one I have in my stick) don't have this issue at all, since they're just panel-mount pass through adapters. If port on the adapter wears out, buy a new one. If the cable wears out, it's just a standard USB B or USB C cable, so it can be replaced as well. The main reasons I see for arcade stick manufacturers to not include detachable cables are cost (on a $200+ controller) and extra warranty claims from someone bumping the cable connection and damaging the whole stick when the cable got bumped.

How do you learn combos like this? I've seen tons of videos or tutorials on what buttons to press but actually learning how to drill them into my hands is another thing entirely. Do you just sit in training mode until you can do them?
@fedweezy4976
@fedweezy4976 Жыл бұрын
Personally, I treat it the same as learning music, if you've ever played an instrument it's a very similar process. As a result, one of the best mindsets you can have when learning a combo is to think about the moves you need to do instead of the buttons you need to press. Idk if that makes sense, an example would be instead of saying "ok, now I do 2h into 214k" it would be "ok now I do 2h into hoof stomp" basically, think of the moves, not the inputs. Another thing that helps is to go through the combos piece by piece, and going through the moves slowly and slowly speeding up until you are more comfortable. At the end of the day, you do just have to put the time in as well, but these things make the connection between mind and execution much easier. Also, just like music, the more you learn combos, the easier it is to learn the next combo
@midorixiv
@midorixiv Жыл бұрын
Honestly the biggest thing that helped me learn combos was telling myself to slow down a bit when doing them, its easy to just try to mash out all the inputs as fast as you can but that just leads to sloppiness and dropped combos, you usually have more time than you think. But if you're new to the genre you can't really escape spending a bit of time in training mode getting used to doing combos in general, nowadays I find myself booting up a game to practice some combos just to relax lol. I also think its helpful trying to split up combos into different components if possible, like if you can practice the starter/middle/ender of a combo separately then its not only easier to learn each bit, but you'll also find it much easier to convert off of random starters on the fly in a match, and you'll feel cool as hell doing so.
@fedweezy4976
@fedweezy4976 Жыл бұрын
@@midorixiv I would definitely say that you should either listen to a podcast or turn off the in game music when grinding out a combo. Having a podcast has obvious benefits, but grinding with only the sound effects is an almost meditative experience that helps quickly move past failed attempts.

@fedweezy4976 Жыл бұрын
@@midorixiv also hard agree on your second paragraph about splitting up into segments. I would do the same thing when I used to play saxophone.
