If you are commited to modding your stick, unscrewing 6 screws doesn't really add that much time or effort to the overall process tbh. I replaced the cord on my Obsidian in a jiffy. It's just an easy unplug/plug operation once you open it up.

I feel like the Fender vs Ibanez/Yamaha analogy is perfect when looking at this stick. I’m a bass player and my first really good bass was an Ibanez BTB because of the “refined” features it had (neck thru construction, active EQ, nice tone woods) but over time I began to appreciate why Fender basses are so widely used and after trying one myself and hearing how it sounded in the mix I immediately fell in love and have recently been using a Fender Jazz Bass as my main workhorse I’m looking to get into using an arcade stick, and if the Obsidian is like a Fender in this case then I might like it more than I expect. (A year old comment, I know) That's because Fender really started making innovative strides in modernizing their lineup while also still being able to keep that classic Fender sound and feel starting with the revamp of their lineup in 2018. They've been killing it ever since and is actually a guitar brand I would consider buying (and in fact, already did). They've also brought out a bunch of absolutely KILLER effects pedals that are such a good bang for the buck. Normally, I'm an Ibanez guy, but nothing about Ibanez has been really exiting since the release of the RGD in 2011/2012. Ibanez has become very static as a brand and there's nothing compelling about the brand.

Another year old comment, lol. I love the analogy to bass guitars. The regular guitars also have brand-loyal fanboys. Also, I know some truckers, and oh boy do Chevy guys not like Fords. Those guys can get NUTS. People sometimes wear their brand-loyalty like it is a family clan or something. Anyway, I think you have a healthy attitude to not get trapped on picking a side. When you refuse to look at another side due to some weird brand loyalty, you miss out on enjoying everything on offer. Try everything and ignore the brand names. @@jerseyscum9126 ~600 hours on it now, dropped it accidentally three times, still going strong. Everything works like new and the little cable flap has never been an issue for me, I just fold and rubberband the cable to store it. 10/10.

@@jerseyscum9126 The Obsidian I bought came with a square gate whereas my buddy, who bought a Hori, uses an octagon gate. It took me a while to get used to, but the square gate is supposedly a lot more consistent with diagonal inputs - and after a while I began to notice it. He still has issues with diagonal inputs that I was eventually able to get right consistently; could be a user issue, I don't really know, but the square gate trained my muscles to know exactly where the square's corner is during those tense, split-second moments, whereas the octagon's extra lateral sides might have served as a crutch for a bit longer than I wanted. I'm sure it's also a matter of preference, but I tried my buddy's octagon stick and it felt like the training wheels on your bicycle keeping you from really leaning into a fast turn - if that makes sense. And I'm no FGC pro, but I'd also say practice makes perfect.

mode 1 of the led actually reacts to the stick, its just on the left side, button activate right side, the further hole in the cable holder/box whatever you want to call it, protects the cable from being directly being pulled, yes my flappy thing for cable broke after 2 and half year of use, I personally welcomed the stiffness of the holder. I gunk out when playing so the anti slip helps me personally. The option button being second from the end really annoyed me as well, but got used to it by now. Good and honest review btw :)

Just posting this as an update. I have been researching half the the night mostly watching these vids And I have decided on the Razor Atrox I originally decided on the razor panthera but as looking for a good price on it I found a couple deals on a Razor Atrox, then looked into that. Apparently almost nobody reviewed the differences between the old Razor Atrox and razors(I'm assuming newer) regular pantara but I have watched 1 detailed review video and seen some forums of the Atrox. From what I can tell the only posable differences between the 2 is that one version might only be for the 360 and PC, and Id need to buy a 360 breakaway cable wial the panthera can connect(withought a adapter) to more consoles. I figured Sence I already use multi platform controller adapters with low latency ( I can't even feel any latency) the Atrox will meet all my wants the Pantara has. I already purchased 2 on eBay (one seems to be a earlier variant) the earlier one for myself and the other for my older brother 's birthday coming up(he loves gadgets and gameing gear like this). I don't travel much so the large size doesn't really matter to me infact I so far prefer large. And to me the disadvantage of the plug being flush with the side is just a little less of a con than the other option arcade sticks I looked into and saw on your Videos and the nematic opening I much prefer over how the others Open so that was the deal maker for me. After purchasing have Sence realized their is a lack of a touchpad for the Atrox :/ Guess I should have payed attention for that and I think the Pantara has a few more quick access buttons like the restart practice match button. Luckaly I have gotten them for $20 and a whoping $100 cheaper than the cheapest legitimate Razor Panthera deal and I can resell at least my own on eBay later and get a panthera instead if I decide I definitely like the platform. PS: I'm going to change the lever nob and get GamerFinger buttons So thanks again for mentioning GamerFinger buttons I look forward to installing them.

I own an Obisidian and the Aegis to carry it around. It is a very STURDY and WELL-BUILT stick and you're definitely right about it feeling more secure as its weight and build feels incredible. Sadly modding it was kind of nerve wrecking as getting access to the insides was somewhat time consuming, but after installing my custom art in it, it is GLORIOUS. Overall it is a decently well built and stylistic fight stick and you definitely get your money's worth, but it is not too mod friendly.

@@HardDanceShuffler10 it really depends on your comfortability / what you can afford, but I actually play Tekken on a controller with a modded DPAD that is similar to a Keyboard / Hitbox. From what i remember, the Razer Panthera EVO's internals are easily accessible so you can mod it easier. Hope this helps out and best of luck out there!

My friend has an all black Victrix. It’s honestly one of the smoothest sticks I’ve ever played on. If I had an extra bone I’d of gotten a Victrix Chun li blue one. Since I had the opportunity for an early xmas gift I said I wanted a Qanba and I received the pearl. It looks and plays awesome too. You’re lucky to have a Victrix as they’re probably the best stick right now

Got this bad boy from a mall 2 years ago. The shop had both this and a Razor Panthera Street Fighter 5 version on clearance. The Obsidian was $160 and the Panthera was $99. As much as I like Razer fightsticks, I opted for the Obsidian instead. Installed an octo gate and a 4lbs spring since then. It's a pretty solid stick and I love it just as much as my faithful old Tekken Tag 2 Hori RAP N stick.

I own this arcade stick (the second one i have ever purchased).The first time i used it,i left it in its default gameplay mode (the direction pad mode).That's exactly how it feels when i tested it out on "Ultra Street Fighter 4" (the PS4 version).It was extremely difficult to do all of Zangief's 360 moves (i wasn't able to do his first Ultra Combo move).However,i might fall in love with this arcade stick after i change the joystick gameplay to the (Left Analog Stick) mode hopefully.That will probably be the significant difference in the ability to do all 360 moves of Zangief;and all of the other fighting game characters in video gaming that has 360 moves and combos.

The obsidian is my first arcade stick and I love it, and while I don't have anything to compare it to to form a fully cohesive opinion, the one thing i do NOT like about this stick is the placement of the options and share buttons on the top. If it were possible I would've either preferred them to be located elsewhere on the stick with another set of sanwa buttons OR at the very least just have them be side to side on the top. However, that's really the only major complaint I have with it.

Initially I had a hard time pressing those buttons as well but I did get used to it. Hopefully next gen qanba sticks would be improved in this aspect. But overall, the stick is very nice to use.

They're like that for tournament play so you don't accidentally press them. Other sticks have had them on the top with a switch to lock them but I guess they figured it would be better on the back side

@12:20 thats because in tournaments usually accidental pauses can cause you the round so having the option botton abit farther/wierd to reach will help avoid unintended habits. In the old tekken days to skip the replay inbetween rounds to get to the next round faster players had press the option botton to skip the long ass replay. Now that gone in tekken 7 but the habbis for many players still remain so unintended pauses still happen alot. One can argue that since tekken 7fr season 2, there has been an implemented tournament setting mode where players now cant press the option botton mid match to pause but this isnt usually implemented in pools so that players can still skip intro animation and get pools move abit faster.

Great timing, the Obsidian just arrived yesterday and i'm happy with it, however, this is my first stick and I grew up playing street fighter 2 in the arcades. The stick itself feels much more loose than what I remember in the arcades. I'll try buying a 2lb spring and see if that makes it more like what I remember in the arcades. Also found the forward forward or back back specials in mk 3 a little difficult. I don't remember having troubles back in the day with these moves not sure why that is. Altogether a great stick though.

Yeah back in the sf2 and MK generation in the west I think hardware parts were different to the ones used in Japan. For tournaments though you see any and every kind of hardware so everyone is free to use what works best for them feel wise

If you grew up in an american arcade, chances are you most likely used HAPP hardware to play on, so the 2lb spring might still feel too loose. I would recommend trying a 4lb or 6lb spring with a heavier (for example, ceramic) top, and see how that feels.

Coming back to this review after I've had mine for a couple weeks. It's my first fight stick and I love it. I've been using it for Guilty Gear Strive, Under Night In-Birth, and Tekken 7 and it just makes fighting games so much more fun to play. Even tried using it for non-fighting games, works pretty good for Hollow Knight funnily enough.

I think the dragon is bigger and heavier so if u plan to bring the stick to events then the obsidian is going so be more convenient comparatively. Dragon opens for maintenance and modding more easily so it might be nice if u only play at home

i am new to Arcade sticks and have been wanting to buy this one as my first one. i just have a question however. that question being, would this stick be compatible with steam/PC instantly or is this for only Playstation gaming?

SF6 will be on ps4 (and other consoles) so the obsidian should be fine :)

Got one months ago. In part based on your evaluation. Love it! And I can use it in lowest latency in PS 4 mode on my Win10and 7 PCs, Linux box, Raspberry Pi, laptop, and, with a Brook Wingman XB USB converter, on my Xbox 360.

I got one for $153.99 on Black Friday on the Qanba website. Well the Pearl version but I guess it’s the same. Hoping I like it better than my Dragon which is too heavy for me and my Hori rap 4 which doesn’t suit my tastes.

I know it's been a while since this video was posted but when he uses the touchpad to reset the position (right, center and left) of the characters in training mode in SFV, was he doing it on the PS4/PS5 or PC? I want to know if the touchpad works on PC.

I’m guessing this can also be used on pc too? I want to start getting more into fighting games and I play on pc and ps4 so if I could use this stick on both that’d be extremely convenient. Sorry if the question has an obvious answer I’m just unfamiliar with sticks
