I usually go into a week of wellness holiday after a marathon and then break my 10km PB 2 weeks after the marathon. Gains from the training block are still very high then. So I don't usually have psychological issues after a big race ;). You're right in many ways. Great video.

Perfect timing of this vid. I've only ran twice since Abingdon. A park run 2 weeks ago and cross country yesterday. I was a bit ill beginning of the week. For the first time, my training status is 'Strained' and HRV dropped. So, it is plenty of easy for me in the next couple of weeks.

Helpful vid! I only took 6 days off after Abingdon (first marathon) and have done 4 hard sessions and 2 10k races since then - legs feeling terrible most of the time so planning to slow things down for a couple of weeks. Good to know its not just me - Cheers

Glad you found it useful! Take a nice easy week, it’ll massively help 👊 it’s great to know the legs work post marathon but it can definitely catch up with us!

Good afternoon. The relax is very important after the Marathon, Half Marathon, don't worry, Andy. You are a strong runner. Like from 🇪🇸 Spain. A nice weekend for everyone.

I'm flabbergasted by Dawn - post Yorkshire Marathon. 7 days later a 10k. Six days after that an all-in parkrun. And two speed sessions thrown in. Perhaps not being able to hit the absolute top notes at Yorkshire means she has come back quicker. For me, reasons to swerve a marathon number 38 - it takes too long to recover from!

She’s done amazing, I’ve been impressed to see her smash it since the marathon! I’m with you, give me a straight piece of flat tarmac and I’m happy!

Hi Andy, 2 weeks since the Snowdonia Eryri Marathon. It my 3rd Marathon and my body felt good with no delayed doms. Since then my garmin watch has said either recovery or strained. My HRV score hasn't gone above 62 in the last 2 week. Typically my pre-race HRV would be between 90 to 120. I don't understand as I only had low HRV for 5 days after the newport marathon.

Could be your body recovering mate... I dont know the full science with the HRV data but my advice would be if its outside normal parameters then keep things nice and easy, nice and relaxed and keep an eye on when it starts to go back up

What you said makes perfect sense, but what does the rest of your t-shirt say?

I’ll do a tshirt reveal soon haha

I took a month off after my last marathon. Was hugely burnt out physically and mentally. Just didn't feel like running at all. My return was delayed by a few bouts of sickness, too. Slowly finding my feet again...

Glad you’re getting there slowly! Often the mind is “fed up” of running after such commitment in the build up to a big race… so it’s good to hear you listened to your body!

You are still around 3 week after a full marathon. You can still go a few days off.
