In this episode I am trying to leave Ecuador and cross the border into Colombia. The Ecuadorian border is still closed, but Colombia is open, so all Ecuador has to do, is to let me leave. But will they??

Another country!! 🥳🥳 A lot of people seem to suggest that I should have bribed the officers to make things go faster. Here is what I have to say about that 😅 I think trying to bribe police or other officials is always a bad idea, unless you reallllly don’t have another choice. So, first of all - I don’t support corruption so I won’t offer bribes. Secondly, in my opinion it’s also not right to assume that every official in South America is corrupt 🤷‍♀️ You can get yourself into quite some trouble when you start offering bribes, to non-corrupt people.. So, I’ll just whine instead that it takes a long time and do things the way they are supposed to go 🤪😂

I didn't see anyone trying to copy her documents. Just the guy at 11:00 was asking for some documents in order to fill the online form, which is weird, but maybe travellers have to fill that form and get a copy of it beforehand and these guys are trying to make some money out of the ones how didn't make the process beforehand. But yeah, I totally get your point, when you're in Latin America you have to be trustful sometimes and wish people are helping you instead of taking advantage of you. I guess that also becomes part of your 'spidey senses' somehow over time 😂

Welcome to my country, my country is your country too. You should know Manizales in Colombia, the people, the landscape and its culture is very beautiful, without leaving coffee behind. For all foreigners, welcome to my country and Manizales.

That was a snapshot of every interaction I've had with Colombian govt, including the adoption of my child. You handled that so well. I can't tell you how many times I've lost my patience, not with the friendly people but with policies.

You're amazing! I'm Colombian, I'm from Pasto, somewhere near Ipiales. I felt so warm to listen your comments, to watch your videos. I feel bad about your delays because workpaper. Every country has things like that. Once I entered to Netherlands and I got stuck in customs as they were checking a Matroska. So custom guys checked one by one a nested Russian doll.... and I had a couple of those... c'est la vie

This was pretty much the same in the UK prior to 1993. If someone arrived in the UK without a pre arranged agent, customs would tell them they need to clear customs, customs obviously don't do any paperwork for you. Many times as an agent some poor lost person would ask me ( having been pointed out by a customs officer as an agent) to clear there goods or lorry on TIR into the UK. When you know what to do, it's actually very easy. As an agent we did the same procedure many times a day. If you happen to find someone that is unsure, it can take for ever. Itchy has the patients of a saint!

Hello Noraly. You are quite right about bribing officials. The best course of action is always stay on the right side of the law. Do it right do it safe. South America is a logistical nightmare for unseasoned travellers. I think your other experiences mean your no push over and I understand your issues over the insurance. I have no doubt you will stay focused on your travels and I know everyone watching will be wishing you well and a safe journey. I look forward to the continuing adventure. 🐿
