I grew up in homestead Fl. One side of my family were some of the original settlers of key west. Grew up fishing every inch of the keys either wading along the shore. From shore and bridges and by boat back in the 60’s through the early 80’s. It saddens me to see the condition of the keys these days. Some of most favorite fishing was wading in the shallows fishing for jacks and cudas. I can remember diving with jewfish( sorry I refuse to come into the 21st century) the size of small boats. First time I saw one was diving with my father in 1968. I could have easily fit in that fishes mouth. We were spear fishing at the time under a bridge. Brings back a lot of memories. Been living in NC past 38 years.

From Gatlinburgs website The City of Gatlinburg operates a Trout Rearing Facility, which is located at Herbert Holt Park, to enable the weekly stocking of fish in Gatlinburg-managed waters. This is the only municipally-owned trout facility in the State of Tennessee. The facility is managed to maintain a trout fishery, specifically rainbow trout. Fish reared at the facility are transported, in loads ranging from 350 to 500 pounds, per stocking, and deposited into the West Prong of the Little Pigeon River every Thursday, which as a result is the only day that fishing is not allowed in Gatlinburg-managed streams and rivers.

I and 3 family members all FL residents from Jax had just started fishing for the morning from a bridge, we all had our licenses. They hassled us. Not believing that we had NO fish whatsoever. They suspected we were hiding fish in our vehicles, we were not, we had just started. It's too bad, the keys are beautiful, the people are great. The cost and inconvenience and the hassle is not worth it IMO. One more thing, if you get there via homestead, watch out. That is one corrupt town!

I pulled it up a bit at a time for about 45 minutes before I got it to the surface. I was flabbergasted when I finally saw what it was. It's shell was at least 5 feet long. I was wondering how I was going to get it off when it looked over at the boat, opened it's mouth, and the hook just fell out lol. Then it just cruised away. I really felt like it was just playing with me...

Brant, you get to experience what most of us have already had happen. I've been stopped twice in the same day by FWC in the Keys. After searching my boat, twice, they let me go. And the Sheriff's marine unit in Lee County is a whole extra level of harassment. I got passed by a 50 ft cruiser going 30 knots in the intercoastal, and they gave me a ticket for violating a no-wake zone when I was idling. They look for non locals to ticket.
@flybywire1022Ай бұрын
Literally the same experience I had a few years ago when I hauled my bay boat up from Texas to the keys for a week long trip. Ended up cited for a violation of the no wake even though I was idling, was stopped and harassed 5 times three by the FWC, and twice by the same sheriffs marine unit…so figured screw it left the boat at the rental and tried to wade fish…came back to a parking ticket. After that I vowed to never comeback to Florida.

Yeah, I only have 11 months of time living in Florida ; many years ago(1981). I see that in Florida & other States as well where you think they are about following the Constitution yet that is NOT what they are doing. I'm not for Reps/Dems as I see both sides as two wings of the same bird. Neither really stands for the people or this nation, I'm seeing them doing lip service to situations but not enforcing the Laws that we've had in place for over a century. And it seems the huge over-bloated pile of Gov Agencies have the ability to create Policy/Rules - Regulations that somehow have teeth like our Laws? How does that work? Our leaders are smart people who've figured out how to manipulate all of the common folk while lying & stealing them blind, all while smiling for photo's. You are correct & those who believe in we the People have bought into the "Division" between Reps / Dems, thinking the Law should get the other side & that's good. Both want to empower the LEO's to do their own bidding but what they've missed is it's all in bid to exert Power -n- Control over ALL the People whenever needed. United We Stand, divided we fall.... we've fallen and our leaders are helping in that process. peace
@Poppi-GАй бұрын
@ yes sir. If either side were for our constitutional rights then we’d at least have rights half the time. It’s pretty clear that we the people have been sleeping too long.
@diggy-d8wАй бұрын
Yes Poppi-G , that's exactly what has occurred here. As we common folks worked our fingers to the bone, both parents and left the kids to the Dept. of Education(public schools), our leaders & the Powers that Be have been doing things to destroy us & this nation. But no one "Side" could pull this off against the other although they want us to believe that sH!Te. Classic divide -n- conquer is being manipulated & they're dividing people over any/everything possible so that we're fighting each other. When I quote this; "United We Stand, divided we fall...." Sleeping, working, fighting, or the entertainment of our shrunken heads = we've obviously missed the TRUTH. But you're awake - one at a time !
