YES...!!! I was selling a Mercedes sprinter long-wheelbase van with a disabled access tail lift for electric wheelchairs - it was an automatic so a disabled person could drive it. NO ONE wanted it even though it has 15k miles on it, no one wanted an automatic. I basically gave it away. THE NEXT DAY - and I am not making this up - 3 separate disabled people called me super excited they wanted it to make into a mobile home. The tail lift was worth 3 X what i sold the van for...

I use Freecycle a lot. If anyone gives a firm commitment, and doesn't show, I report them to the Moderators. Yes, I'm an arsehole like that. 😁

Ten years ago I worked for a company that closed down an office and we had a shipping container full of office desks chairs etc. We spent more than a month trying to give the stuff away but only managed to get rid of a couple of the tables. We did not want to hire the container for ever plus it was taking up a car parking space so then we brought in a skip smashed up everything so it would fit and took it away. Then everybody started asking for the furniture.

Honestly, it's easier to put it for sale at a reasonable price, then if you like the jib of the person who comes to pick it up, tell them not to worry about the money. Weeds out most of the time wasters and you will make someone's day.

I have a bicycle trailer so I could transport it. When people ask me about my trailer I say "No MOT, No MPG - the roof rack on two wheels" it folds flat for easy storage too. I have transported all manner of things with it and it is no hardship to tow whatever the load. If the problem this video highlights for the cyclist has been bothering you checkout trailer options..

A friend lives on the main road near a major beach in Australia. Leave items outside and just turn your back for 5 minutes, and backpackers will take it. One time he threw a matress off his balcony in order to clean it outside and by the time he got downstairs it had been taken. Still ... the new owners would have discovered at some point that the matress was being taken outside in order _to remove bed bugs._

No different with trying to donate to charity either. After around 8 refusals of me trying to donate a very expensive computer desk to everywhere from Oxfam shops to Marie Curie shops I was forced to cart it to the local tip and hope someone grabbed it before it went in a skip.

We had a 2 seater & 3 seater suite to give away. Woman borrowed a van for 2 seater & said she'd be back for the 3 seater a few days later. Eventually turned up with a friend's Peugeot 306. I told them that I really doubted it would fit but they were adamant that we should give it a go. Fine, go for it, not my problem anymore. My eldest daughter was pissing herself, watching as they drove off with one person on the backseat ostensibly 'holding on' to a 6.5 ft settee, 4 ft of which was sticking out the rear of a small hatchback.

Forget Freecycle. Furniture? Call Trinity Furnishings, Uxbridge and Slough, they recycle unwanted furniture towards people on the first step of having a home, private and council housing. I feel smug this year, two single beds, one a fold-up, two new Queen Anne chairs that didn't match my shape, two coffee tables, cupboards, wall and free, shelves, and a bookcase. Better to go to a charity, than depend on new converts to recycling, or are making a move to start their own recycling company. I never realised, Matt, that you were one of so many identical wins! My flabber is well and truly gasted.

Trying to 'give away' items that are no longer needed on Freecycle is like pulling your teeth out with a pair of plyers ... It can be done (some of the time) but don't expect it to be a) quick b) convenient or c) pain and hassle free - it won't be. People expect you to be the one put out in order for them to benefit from your charity - even if its going to a charity.
