my interpretation of the 11th chapter is that it's trying to say that space and emptiness are what create opportunities for something to function. to explain with examples from the text, a pot couldn't do what it's supposed to if it didn't have empty space in the middle and the empty space inside a house is what creates opportunity for us to live inside it :) i'm taking a chinese literature class in uni rn and it's been quite fun working with the older texts, trying to make sense of what seems at first cryptic in seminars together. we read a bit of tao te ching for one seminar as well. i had a bit of a tough day so i'm extra grateful for the sweet hangout today. thank you and i'm sending you my love 💛

For me, Chapter 11 was reassurance that we don’t need to have our entire identity or “being” figured out, because the non-being, or “space” within ourselves is the part we and others “use”. Similarly to how we use the empty space in the home, maybe we create space through the non-being for others to open up to us and connect, and through which to experience life. If we were completely full of “being”, there would be no space for new people or experiences ☁️🌱 just my thoughts, thanks for sharing that Leah!

Thank you so much for this content. I was exhausted with my thesis and this week I was loosing motivation with everything. Your video affected me in a positive way and I did some gentle yoga after that. Hope you can find your inner peace and everything you wish. Also, I completely agree with you, when someone is in a relationship, everybody is assuming that everything is perfect in your life since you have someone beside you. This issue affect me in a negative way time to time, because I feel pressure within my social cycle as I could not have a problem in life in terms of our differences or ups and downs with my partner. İf we put everything aside, the relationship itself is between to human being simply sharing some common values and emotions ... Have a good weekend 🙏

love you so much leah you are such an inspiration! just wanted to say that saying let´s do nothing and then showing you doing a lot: vacuuming, cleaning your closet, going outside, eating healthy etc. made me feel like shit bc doing nothing looks very different to me, especially if you are depressed but also just if you are less active. I know this was not your intention, just saying you are a very active and productive person even if this is "nothing" for you
@christinaflutter54112 жыл бұрын
For sure it is different for everyone, like I could 💯 relate to what you said, but also Leah's nothing here because at times I am so overactive and productive (to a fault) that the things in this video are a break and "nothing". Also sometimes people start with the plan of doing nothing or something simple but it extends as they go. Good to hear another perspective and just know you are also completely valid in your own version of nothing too.

I like 道德经! I think chapter 11 is trying to explain that "being" makes life convenient, but what we don't see is "not-being" also play its role, just like the empty space in wheel, clay pot and house. Love the vibe of your video❤

@@leahsfieldnotes maybe the things that doesnt exist, the paths that we dont choose, the things that we dont see or feel... like if im choosing something then it is a 'being' and all the things that i am not 'choosing' doesnt 'exist', and by their 'unexistence' the thing that i choose gets the chance to 'be'? like everything contributes to and affects everything... idk this is just what i felt reading that quote, i love your videos btw (:

@@leahsfieldnotes tbh I am not so sure, the original Chinese word of not-being in this chapter is 无, which means “nothing”. Some people would think the main idea of 无 mentioned often in 道德经 is letting thing goes naturally and no forcing or controlling, I quite like this perspective. Just like u said, there’re various translations and understandings. It’s fun to discuss this🍃
