Your program, reverse dieting and building muscle changed my life in 2 months. I eat till I am full, I don't have the cravings I had before, I have more energy and even though my weight didn't changed clothes fit better👍🏻

I wish I would have known this years ago!! I'm 52, struggled with weight my WHOLE life. I've always been active, but doing cardio. Now in Menopause, my mindset changed, I quit cardio, now doing Hiit, and lifting 3x week, I;ve lost almost 50lbs, I've NEVER been this thin and strong. I will never struggle again, because now I know what to do! I love your channel.

Are you taking any hormone therapies? Because I’m in perimenopause, have been super disciplined for 7 months and have not really had any body composition changes and I’m about to lose my mind. Now I’m hitting a mental wall from feeling like I’m spinning my wheels. Something’s gotta give!

@@GrowingThroughItAllI'm taking hormones (bioidentical) I think you should too. It is so important for your brain bones and heart, it will give you drive and energy too. Take your hormones, focus on strength training, don't diet just focus on fueling your body. Hopefully you will feel much better.

That's why walking is the perfect counterpart to lifting. It speeds recovery and doesn't trigger cortisol in the body. So you're burning 100-150 cals per mile of walking and increasing BMR with regular lifting. It's the perfect 1-2 punch IMO. I still think some form of official cardio 2-3x per week is great for building vo2 max though. The better conditioned you are, the harder you can lift. 💯

I love the investing analogy with prioritizing muscle building vs. focusing on cutting calories and doing cardio. I’ve been trying to explain this to my husband but now I’m just going to send him here.

Boy, did you guys nail it when you said women need to be ok about first gaining weight to put on muscle. Just started with a trainer yesterday and that was the first thing she told me. Forget the number on the scale & concentrate on hitting your protein macros (I'm a whopping 96 lbs but struggle to get to 100 g). Also hard to get out of the runner mindset where lighter = better performance.

How I wish I'd heard this 6-7 years ago! I dropped 100+ lbs in 18 months but wrecked my metabolic rate and could eat almost nothing without putting weight back on. Admittedly, that process taught me a lot of discipline, but when I found you guys and started focusing on building muscle, figuring out effective nutrition for me (lots of protein, lots of fiber), and throwing in a little cardio not only did I get stronger but I'm leaner than I was at my lowest weight. I was around 300 lbs and now I'm 185 with about 11-12% body fat (best I can figure anyway). Now, if I want to cut, I can drop weight pretty quickly at what started out as my bulking calorie intake. At baseline I'm never hungry and can easily create some space for an indulgent meal from time to time if I want to go out. When I tell people I lift weights to be lean and so I can eat more food I often get funny looks but this revelation has changed my life and allowed me to sustain a healthy lifestyle for me. Thanks guys!! Keep getting the word out there!

Wow! I really enjoyed this podcast. Learned a lot. I am a post menopausal woman trying to gain muscle in hopes it will burn the extra fat on my body. I am also very active and on my feet for 12-16hrs a day. I lift twice a week. That number on the scale going up messes with the mind when you increase calories. Add to that the clothes getting tighter. Yikes! The good news is I feel so much better and I am sleeping better not restricting calories and not following the calories in calories out b.s. I refuse to believe all of these changes I have made are a mistake. I need to trust the process knowing it will just take time. Thanks so much for this. I am encouraged.🙏

I am 5ft 3in female and used to weigh 168lbs. I have more cellulite in my legs than I’d like to admit. I have lost weight just “winging it” by myself using IF and then I decided I just want to eat clean and be healthy. Since, I’ve dropped to 153lbs!! But now I’m stagnant/ plateauing 😢 I was doing the infamous cardio but learned that strength training is GOLD!!! I need a better meal plan and a better strength training routine…. I know protein is key, but I’m a home health RN and always on the road someone help please!!!

Do you weigh and track what you eat? It seems a bit crazy but it will tell you a lot if you do. Just do it for a week or so and see what you notice. Healthy food still contains calories. Don't use it to judge yourself but use it for information. Good luck! From there you can see what your average calorie intake is and if it's reasonable cut or reverse diet so that you can eventually cut. Take care.

@@maxinereed7667 oh I most definitely track. I use a food scale and all! I just feel like I’m all over the place right now. Just need more structure. I actually started going to bed earlier and I wake up and workout before work, come home and work out again (for example: I wake up, drink water then do half hour weight lifting. Shower, make breakfast and go to work. Then I come home, change and do another session of weight lifting for an hour, cook a high protein meal. Before bed I drink some green tea with ginger, turmeric, black pepper and 1 tbsp acv…….. and throughout the day I typically drink about 78 oz of water)

@@tonielleevans5056 That sounds like A LOT of lifting on top of a very physical job. Maybe you need more rest or maybe you could break up your sessions into upper and lower. Do you have kids too? How long do you feel that you have been in a plateau. You may not be in a plateau at all. I would keep going if I were you. I am struggling with the mental piece at the moment. I have stopped weighing myself altogether because it was messing with my head. I am losing inches in my waist and my butt but scale wasn't really moving much. I am eating around 2000 cals at the moment, so loving that! I must be the only woman on the planet at the moment who actually wants to shrink their butt. Lifting feels like it's making my hips and butt look heavier.

The go to soda when your sick is Ginger Ale. It really hits different and makes you feel better. My mom always gave me one of those, a warm compress, and some ice chips. Also, Carbonated water could be categorized as “spicy” because the acid actually destroys your teeth. Best to use a straw for carbonated soda.

OK but can we talk about how if you don’t have a good respiratory health you can’t even get through a weightlifting workout. People who have been in the gym for years forget that newbies are so out of breath and Will need more recovery time in between sets if they don’t have good cardiovascular health. I really believe that having cardio at the base will help weightlifting more than the other way around. I remember feeling like the weight I was lifting wasn’t even that heavy but still being completely out of breath. But all the advice was that you don’t even need at cardio to look the way I wanted. I wish I didn’t listen to that and I wish I would’ve started off with cardio

For listener #3 I’m surprised they didn’t mention getting a massage. I had similar issue that reduced my strength for months. Turned out it was just a knot that once I found it and rolled it out had increased strength overall. And the knot wasn’t even in area that was bothering me. I think muscle tightness and knots are something we often overlook or not think about. Would be great to get some shows on best things to use to work those out.

I don't know if you guys have ever been overweight or not, but everyone I've ever known who lost it and kept it off (including myself) didn't pick and choose between these things. Strength training and building muscle are great ways to burn fat, but they're kind of the long way around. They're better as part of a more diverse plan which includes educating oneself about nutrition and planning ahead, as well as being mindful of what you're consuming. You literally can't outwork a bad diet, especially in the era of 1,200 calorie "coffees" (or rather, wet cakes) and ultra processed goods being sold to children. It's not as simple as "just lift."

Yeah, it's a compilation video of post murder scenes, executions, autopsies, car accidents, post suicides, etc. My dad had Vol.2. When he was out of the house, I snuck into bedroom and found it in his closet . Watched it with neighbor friend. 😳 It was heavy duty watching it at that early age in the mid 90's. Footage that wasn't generic horror movies. Real amateur video of intense scenes. It stayed in our heads for a very long time. Can't imagine being 13 today, where extreme n intense content is EASILY available at anytime. Anywhere. 😒 That taboo thrill of finding it is not the same. Wild times..

I’ve learned more about muscle building and fat loss in the last few videos than I have in the last 51 years. These guys keep it simple for dumb chimps like me. Some YT channels dive too deep into the science. Thomas Delauer is great but, man, you need to have a phd in nutrition science just to understand what he’s talking about. 😂
