I like your trial & error approach. It’s one of the things I respect about Adam Savage and “I Like To Make Stuff” Bob. The Here’s Where I Pooched It/Here’s How I Fixed It method.

Thank you! Definitely still need to do some tweaking on my approach if I try this again. Probably gonna try Alclad like another commenter suggested!

Best metal on resin I've seen so far. I totally thought it was real metal in the thumbnail. Great work!
@brungerbuilds4 ай бұрын
Thanks! The only problem is you can’t touch or handle it or its ruined haha! Some commenters suggested a few other options, so I’ll be trying Duralumen or Alclad chrome paint next. Thanks for watching!

Great to see all the different techniques you tried with their advantages and disadvantages.

None of them quite panned out, but it was a good learning experience haha!. Thanks for watchin!

Looks great as always man. I’d always suggest 2k clear if you’re looking for an ultra high gloss. Also I painted a Sabine lightsaber with duralumen and it came out near chrome. It’s cheap and easy to get on Etsy

Definitely gonna look into Duralumen or Alclad for the next one!

try graphite powder for that fine dust shine also try rub and buff they also make really nice chrome paint try "liquid chrome"
@brungerbuilds4 ай бұрын
From the other creators I’ve seen do graphite, I think it might be a bit too dark. A few commenters have suggested Duralumen or Alclad chrome paint. I’ll check out your liquid chrome too!

It would be cool to try nickle electro plating with this project. It will deposit a real layer of metal than can then be brushed up to look just like the real thing.

Maybe one day! Kinda worried about dealing with all the chemicals involved, etc. 😅

please do yourself a favor and try get your hands on something called Alclad II Premium Lacquer Airbrush Paints, the scale model aircraft guys use it and it is phenomenal!
@brungerbuilds4 ай бұрын
Will do! Wanted to try this technique first cuz I’ve heard Alclad can be kind of finicky, but I’m learning almost all faux metal techniques are 😅

It might be worth trying to hit a dull clear coat with some 0000 steel wool. Unsure if it will dull or shine the clear coat you are using. Regardless the stuff is incredibly good for getting a silky surface finish before painting
@brungerbuilds4 ай бұрын
I’ll have to give that a try sometime!

Love the vid! what did you use to attach the saber to your drill?
@brungerbuilds3 ай бұрын
Just drilled a pilot hole in the bottom of the resin and screwed in a 2in screw and then tightened that into my drill!

I'd say that's pretty convincing.

Thanks! It’s aaaaaalmost there, but you can’t touch it or it’s ruined haha. Definitely looks way better on camera too.

Ahhh if only there was a way to lock in that metal finish... because it really does look like real metal
@brungerbuilds4 күн бұрын
Yeah, these days I think I could replicate the look using high grit sandpaper and Alclad’s “polished aluminum” and once sealed with their Aqua Gloss it’d be pretty close. Thanks for checking this one out!

Hiiii 👋, been binging your stuff. Been wondering if you have recommendations for starter paints, brushes, and air brushes to start doing this stuff! Keep up the awesome work🫡 Edit- btw have you tried metal plating 3d prints?? I'm not sure who I saw doing it but it seems like a good way to get the sheen you are looking for
@brungerbuilds4 ай бұрын
Heck yeah dude! Thanks fer watchin! I’ve got most of that info linked in the description of this video. The air brush kit is maybe a bit on the pricier side, but I bought it on recommendation from another maker here on KZbin (I hadn’t ever airbrushed til a few months ago). It works great and as far as paints go, I use almost exclusively Vallejo (only cuz I have yet to need a color they don’t offer haha!) I’ve found that buying Vallejo on Amazon is basically double the price than if I buy locally so most of my paint I source from my local hobby shops. I haven’t tried electroplating. I’ve seen people do it, but I’m pretty sure its more expensive and requires dealing with hazardous materials. I’ll probably try Duralumen or Alclad Chrome paint next!
