@@andydevinewine you don't know why people make the mistakes they make but we all make them. Or are you perfect? It doesn't discredit everything else. In fact, I'd rather take advice from someone who's made mistakes and came out a better person.

I'm a partially sighted 68 year old, and you do make a difference. You're in my head three times a week on my intervals, tempo/ threshold sessions, and long run, telling me this is not meant to be easy but controlled. Thank you. I run solo mainly nowadays, but your comment about running with others in sessions really helps. Mid 80s to early 90s, my Tuesday intervals were with the likes of Mike Gratton (London 83 winner). Even though I was lagging behind these guys, they made me a better runner. Now I just concentrate on my age category and, in away, looking forward to September 2026 when I'll be 70 and still hoping to take some scalps. Keep the faith, never give up.

Thank you for this video. It means a lot to me. Our stories (with due differences) are similar....I also ran Lisbon and got a minor injury that still is mining my training and London was my A race....I was going to PB. But it did not end like that and became one of the worst recent marathons I ever ran. And it was onnmy birthday and I was running for a Guinness to inspire others with my disease......i failed all. And I was in a dark space. Your video helped a lot. Keep doing what you do. I will buy the London shirt because is really significant to me and I want to support you. Hope to meet you one day. My next attempt will be Berlin.

What you said is 100% true! There are many other things that are more important than running. I’m a runner myself. At the same time, i have a family with 3 boys, a stable job and other commitments to take care of. Yet, I still run 70-80km every week. Although I care a lot about running, it is always a juggling task with other priorities. In the end, running doesn’t pay my bills. Thank you so much for all your advice! I broke sub 3:25 in my 2nd FM last year. Looking forward to breaking it again this year.

I am just a recreational runner and running is “just” a hobby for me. Still it hits me hard if for example I miss a goal race because of an injury or lose fitness because an illness keeps me off of training. I can only imagine how hard it must be to deal with failure as a professional athlete. Especially with running which is a low and unpredictable return of investment. Huge respect Steven for your mental strength. You have made a huge impact in the running community olympics or not.

Every run I’m getting better, I’m shedding the unwanted weight and your a big part of me getting back out so THANK YOU for that. Set backs allow for a bigger comeback. You inspired me (at age 61) to pursue running a little more serious and it has taken me to places I never would have thought! I'm headed to Sydney Australia in the fall with the family to make some memories after a big marathon run (3:08:22) to get an invite to the Marathon Majors AG World Championships. Then on to Chicago 4 weeks after. I just needed gym and some other little things to get over the hump. Took your exercises and put them to use. Thanks for all the help and happiness. I needed sport to balance out my work life and now I spend tons of time outside and with my family and friends!

Many, many thanks for the channel and the build up to London series. Basically, if you are uncertain about the place running has in your life - or indeed, if it should havea place - stop running for a few weeks. Are you enjoying life more or less than when you ran regularly? There's your answer! Whichever way it goes. Pesonally, there's no question; life is better with running in it. No real ambitions any more (I'm in my seventh decade) so I just do the running I like doing. Simple!

i loved the video. I am very happy about the video, especially after that very sad reaction video after London. As a lifetime recreational runner i can tell you running has saved me a hundred times, and i trust in the healing qualities of simple running with all my heart. So process oriented thinking for me is so muh better than result oriented thinking. As long as i get out of any kind of running almost every day, my soul is happy. As long as i treat my body with love and respect, my soul is happy......keep on going day by day, be happy and embrace your running no matter how your race results are. At the end of the day, it is not about numbers it is about feling happy at leasz once per day

Stephen, I have recently come across the channel and it's great to hear a local voice sharing their experiences. You are very inspirational, after a lifetime of rugby and hurling, I stopped caring about my fitness when the babies arrived. It was until recently i was asked by a work colleague to do a leg of the Belfast marathon. Using Garmins Coach Greg, I've gone from a 1km run to an 8k in preparation for Sunday's leg. But what I've gotten from the past two weeks of listening to you, is you need to focus on enjoying the run. In my eyes if you aren't enjoying it, the less likely you'll want to do it again. I'm buzzing to get out to do my new 7.7k lap in the mournes later today as I begin to slow down in preparation for Sunday's leg. Always remember you've gotten to an Olympics, something millions if not billions can only dream about. Now it's time to enjoy the runs again and remember what its all about! Good luck 🤟

I looked at a two-year process of trying to get qualified and run that race and this year halfway through my plan to do the 50 mile air, I fell through a porch and ripped all these muscles in my leg and everything and I realize that the race is not over temporarily it’s done and I’m 62 so your video is helping me realize somebody else too so I would say keep running keep running hard keep finding new races and hell with the Olympicseven with everything that happened you still ran a great time

Thank you for openly talking about your feelings and emotions! That’s what we all sometimes need, to feel that we’re not alone I’ve been personally struggling with recovering after the Covid, I got in September: more than half a year has passed, but I’m not able to run more than a few km, or to not get sick every couple of weeks. I used to run 70km per week and was about to run a marathon in October. Now, I do what you said: allowing myself to be weak sometimes, not be very demanding! We’re all just people and it’s ok to be just a human being: sometimes said, sometimes happy, sometimes strong, sometimes weak! Be simpler to yourself and focus on your happiness One day, we will all achieve what we’re looking for

I take it all in my friend and listen - listen to what you tell and I think you just must continue your journey as a runner. Your experience is very valuable and very inspiring and motivating. I cannot even imagine what pressure it must be on your mind and the body to keep training with that intensity and, on top of that, still try to “lose weight,” altitude tent, etc…! So, so hard! You really need and deserve a major reset! 👍

I been watching your videos for a few years now and learned a lot. I started my running at 40 and have stayed consistently with it for the past 3 years. At my peak fitness, I got gout in my right foot which took me out for almost 2 months. I started my running back and in 2 weeks I got gout again but this time in my left foot which took me out for another 2 months. These 4 months of barely being able to walk set my fitness back. Now I'm back at it and feel I'm starting from where I was 3 years ago. Trying to stay positive and get myself back into shape for my race in August. This is my first real setback and have learned from it. Thank you for all your advice in running but also the struggles. Shows everyone no matter where you are in running has their struggles. Again thank you.

Thanks for everything, Champ. I don't run a lot or that fast, but I try to get better, and your videos really help me keep at it. So, thanks again!

I just wanted to let you know Stephen, a job well done. You laid it all out on the line (you did your best, which is all that matters). You are made for running. You help so many people, including myself. You produce some of the best running content I have ever seen. Paris Olympics or no Paris Olympics, you are an elite runner. You have accomplished so much. I look forward to seeing what you will be doing on your journey next. Whatever you decide, do what makes you the happiest. I just wanted to throw some ideas to stimulate your brain, which you probably have thought about that may interest you regarding your future journey: one on one running coaching, ultra marathons, triathalons, yoga instructor (so you can focus on helping your body heal from the previous years while helping others), helping Under Armor, Garmin, or Coros with their running products, or continuing to develop / extend your own products etc. With your resume, anything is possible. You bring tremendous value to the table, and I'm sure any company would be lucky to have you. I can see you doing all of the above. However, you may not want to do any of those. Either way, I will be rooting for you. Thank you again, and like you always say, "A job well done."

Thank you Scully. You've helped what was an overweight welshman become a slightly less overweight welshman who can cover some pretty good milage and find something to really push for outside of the normal career focused goals. ❤

I ran my first 10k a month ago. Your channel was a great help for me. The fact that you're an elite runner and you make content so relatable to people like me is so much appreciated.

I simply love running, but I've been struggling with the "why" aspect of it - especially when it comes to being consistent with my training, with also having all kind of things which need my attention. Thanks for your positivity and perseverance, it does help us immensly. Keep it up!

I loved the accountability towards yourself and the honesty. That’s why we are here, “change lives”. And you my friend are a life changer!! Thank you for sharing the true story. It is not easy. You always honest, which i appreciate. You have shown us how to deal with the “seasons” of our lives. So so much more than just running.
