Fun fact Jimmy, Beam simulates the loss of power due to lack of oxygen, that is if you make it to the top!

Also, the Beam videos are great, altho it does slightly annoy me when you say it isn't a driving sim, Beam actually models just as much or more as other driving sims, just no one seems to notice as there too busy crashing :( just trying to stop the spread of misinformation Jimmy, not triggered, enjoyed the vid!

yeah that annoyed me a bit, the force feedback might not be great but the actual physics are very good. there are no seperate "crashing physics" or "driving physics" in this game either, its the same thing and calculated in real time. i feel like people dont even give this game a chance, driving in third person and only trying to get some nice crashes.

Yeah exactly, It's the only game rn to simulate everything iirc, besides Rigs of Rods but that was Beams predecessor, and yeah that's probably the reason most people ignore it. Hopefully Jimmy see's this so he know's for future videos.

@10:47 if you turn left over that cliff it may be one of the best possible crashes on this map. that turn is known as the bottomless pit, with a straight 900 foot drop. looks absolutely spectacular irl. if you ever have the chance to go i highly recommend it, but you gotta get there early to park up top at the devils playground- the hill you are looking straight ahead at 10:07 is where most people watch from(stunning view of multiple sections of the road), but i always preferred a little hike just past the bottomless pit corner.

BeamNG is future of racing. It's getting better and better in terms of driving physics, it's just a matter of fine tuning it. Also, it's the only game that actually models driving in real time, all the suspension components are simulated in real time and that's what creates the handling, the handling is not programmed in like in every other game. It's the only game where you can see and feel aerodynamics at work because of how well the fluid dynamics part of the physics engine is made. If you drive really fast and turn slow motion on you can see the aero bits moving, vibrating, the body panels do too due to the air pressure on them, even panel gaps change as you go very fast because the body panels warp a bit under the pressure of air. You have to look at the game in slow motion when you play to really appreciate how good the physics is and how much stuff is going on. Nothing , absolutely nothing in the game is "stiff" and just a "dead model", everything is constantly being modeled by the physics engine in real time, all the metal bits, all the plastic bits, glass bits, everything.

derbigpr500 Weather, the handling (it's a bit twitchy as Jimmy said on BeamNG, which it isn't on ACC), and an actual GT League. All without the fact that you have to pay for DLC in iRacing and a monthly payment. I mean, that's not to say iRacing is bad . . .

Unless you're gaming on a supercomputer I don't think you necessarily want a first-principles model for your car physics, the amount of computing power you'd need to get things even somewhat close to reality is probably not realistic for home use. I think abstract models have their place.

Air\water density in respect to altitude and depth is modeled in BeamNG and will affect aero and engine performance. Also with the amount of progress the game has made in handling over the past year I have no doubt the driving experience will vastly improve in the future.
@derbigpr500
@derbigpr500 6 жыл бұрын
The game does not only model the atmosphere realistically, but the LAYERS of atmosphere all the way to outer space. You can see that by messing with the gravity in the environment menu, you can basically reverse gravity so the car starts falling "up", and you can follow the air speed and see how the speed changes according to the density of air, you can have live torque and power curves visible and see how the power drops as you go higher up in the air and finally the car dies as you get really high. It also shows you how the cooling or heating of the engine depends on the environment, as you go up the engine temps fall down, tires burst really high up, etc. The most fun part though is letting the car fall up for a couple of hours (trust me, I did it, just left it in the background), and then enable full gravity of 298 m/s squared, and watch the car fall back down to earth through space and then the layers of atmosphere, you can see it slow down or accelerate during free falling depending on air thickness, you can see the car burning at one point as its getting in from outer space and it slows down drastically and breaks like you crashed into something since the air suddenly becomes very thick, it's like hitting water. You can reach speeds of up to several tens of thousands of km/h in space, and then when you hit atmosphere the car falls apart due to friction and starts burning. The game physics engine is VERY complex and goes far beyond just crashing or driving. It's spectacular when you start playing with it a bit.

Saying that BeamNG is a "crash sim" is not quite right... It actually simulates a car on such levels that you won't find in any other game (atleast for now). The biggest issue with driving cars in BeamNG, is that it doesn't simulate tire temperature/wear yet, so it feels like you're driving with cold & semi-worn out tires
@Sevastous
@Sevastous 6 жыл бұрын
You are right at things but there is a tire tempature indicator but no wear... Not even wear there are almost nothing about racing elements.Its all focused on driving and I quiete understand that they want to finish beamng drive and maybe work to make something like beamng race

*+jamie 711711* - BeamNG easily goes beyond other car sims in that it avoids simulation models (approximations) like the plague. It brute force simulates anything it can, and there's a lot of benefits to that. Things that racing games and sims implement as "features" occur as natural consequences in BeamNG. It's above every other car sim in that it's the most low-level simulator. This doesn't mean it's the best *racing* sim of course. It's not really focused on racing to begin with. It'll simulate any vehicle equally well. It's more complex to maintain and tweak, and it's difficult to get completely correct results from it due to the absence of simple numerical parameters to tweak. If you want the car to handle differently, you can't just change a few numbers - you need to actually change the physical components of the car.

BeamNG is really impressive from a technical standpoint, but so far it doesn't really result in better handling than more old fashioned simulators. Realistically it's exactly as one would expect with so many parameters in play, any small errors will add up. The potential is there though, and even on it's current state it's pretty cool. I just hope the devs have the patience and resources to see it through.

Sure thing boys, you definitely know what's realistic. You should educate all the dumb real life racers, because they are so ignorant they prefer sims like, I don't know... Hmmm... iRacing? Those poor professionals probably don't even know that driving with fuel tank on fire is realistic. People like Nicki Thiim... Or pretty much anyone with iRating above 4k... Those poor souls. You should teach them the ways of realism! :D Maybe you noticed Jimmy competes in iRacing and he is pretty good. But he only trolls in BeamNG. Because it's simply not realistic. No real racer uses this crap for practice. Max Verstappen or Lando Norris practice in iRacing. (As do many others.) Can you show me an actual pro practicing in this crap game? Since you claim its sooo realistic? :D

12:25 indeed you are correct, turboed cars does not have this problem in general as the turbo will wind up to the desired pressure before the bleeder valve actuated so the turbo works harder but you got the same power output

To see the crashes. This game is just for fun anyway, it's not about serious racing simulation. For that, Jimmy plays iRacing. This is just for the giggles. :D

@@michalvalta5231 you are kind wrong! This game is a racing simulator aswell! It is so racing simulator that simulates even the car physics with a soft body dynamic

Actually Beam does simulate air density and elevation changes. Brakes get cooler the higher you go because of the ambient air temp, and more significantly- engines loose power.

Don't worry you're not bad. It's just BeamNG being BeamNG. You handled that 3 wheeler like a pro on Assetto Corsa so that proves your skill on driving sims much more than BeamNG does right now. BeamNG is meant for flashy crashes and the cars' handling is meant to be easy to crash. Sad to see so much potential for a great driving sim not being fully explored. I hope they continue to work on driving physics.

When you came off a guard rail smoothly, I thought of the 60's NASCAR guy's getting their "Darlington Stripes." Also who needs wings at this altitude, the air is so thin. Nice vidy, thanks.

Fun fact: Dirt Rally actually simulates the loss of power related to altitude - not just on Pikes Peak, but on every stage/location - and you can certainly feel it. (And yeah, according to about a hundred comments, so does BeamNG.)

"Race to the Clouds" Pike's Peak is about an hour's drive south of me, and yet I've never been. Something is seriously wrong with me. Post Script: If you want to see some incredible examples of track knowledge, try to find some of the older footage (pre-2011) when it wasn't all paved. Nobuhiro "Monster" Tajima will always be my favorite.

In game press shift-alt-U to bring up the UI app manager, click the plus and add the navagation app to show you a mini-map. Leave the UI manager and right-click on the mini map to zoom out. That way you can see whats coming (instead of pace notes).

This is coming from somebody that does a lot of unofficial racing irl, and a lot of sim racing. In my opinion BeamNG does driving, and driving at the limit of grip better than anything else out there, except maybe Assetto Corsa. But then there's the thing, BeamNG has incredible tuning and customization and as we all know and love, squishy cars. If you want an accurate well rounded sim, this is the game to buy.
