One pro for the air-cooled engines is that you preserve technology from back in the day and show how far things have come. And also how simple the essence of a internal combustion engine really is. Yes, newer engines have more power and torque and such, but these old engines show a step on the journey to the awesome engines we have today in my opinion.

As a guy that has a 74 bug its nice to see the excitement the whole crew had building the motor. You might not be the fastest car on the road but you are able to operate a piece of engineering history. That oil comment is very true you pretty much have to have a quart or 2 of oil in the "frunk" if you plan to daily the car. One of the easiest motors to tweak and mess with! I am curious what oil weight you are using for it though.

Mechanics were considers “essential” in New Mexico, so he was working the whole time on other people’s VWs. We have gone to the shop to see him and check on the progress, but there has been none. At this point I’m ready to grab it, my dad’s cash, and send it to one of the reputable ACVW shops in California.

These engines are amazingly simple honestly. I think if they took a minute to research it's totally possible to rebuild it in 12 hours. I rebuilt my first VW 1500 (converted to 1600) SP 1968 motor in my basement in the dead of winter during college. I started it using a drill and 1 cylinder then tightened the remaining 3 plugs. Got a lot assembly fluid on my carpet, my mother was not happy.

I think the 16hr benchmark for their first engine couldve been achieved if they had done some good research ahead of time. They lost a lot of time with making little (but MAJOR) mistakes!

It doesn't make sense when they use mask all the time when they touch each other and whatever the others touched, so they would get the Coronavirus if they have worn a mask or not🤔🤨

If masks were as important as they wanted you to believe, we'd all be dead. Just watch how everyone takes them off to talk; how often they readjust them and contaminate them; how they wear them under their nose. The usefulness has been debunked by multiple professionals, but the stupid media just keeps up their fear mongering.
