While randomly chilling in Polish village, I received delivery of Metka Tatarska, which is infamous Polish raw meat spread. So I decided to give this extreme delicacy try for the first time ever. How I reacted and what I think of this raw meat spread? Watch till end and find out!

Ta metka tatarska we flaku zawiera zapewne konserwanty więc moim zdaniem jest jeszcze bardziej niezdrowa niż świeże, surowe mięso dobrej jakości.

in Slovakia and in Czech you can get that meal almost in every pub restauranta. its called TATARÁK or Tatársky biftek. in english its called BEEF TARTAR. its raw high quality beef meat minced or cut very thinly then mixed with a raw egg yolk, paprika, pepper, onion, capars, dijon mustard, worchestire sauce etc. served on a toasted bread with some garlic. Metka tatarska, inaczej tatar, najlepsza jest z pokrojoną drobno cebulą, posiekanym ogórkiem kiszonym i żółtkiem jajka kurzego. Do tego dodajemy pieprz, mieszamy i mamy pyszną potrawę.

The bread is most likely the most popular type in Poland sourdough rye bread, it is darker than ones made of wheat. Bułka (or rolls in english) are made of wheat but still sourdough, they are much whiter and softer.

You should try a meal called "TATAR" . You can find it in some restaurants also. It looks like that picture with egg and vegetables.

Hi André. It's nice to see that you're enjoying Poland's charms and s-holes haha. While metka (pronounced without the english 'e' sound) is delicious on its own... You should totally go for Tatar in some good restaurant. It's basically that but with diced pickled gherkins, egg yolk, onion and necessary spices. Cheers

"Tatarska" means - "the Tatar" from Tatar people - nomadic tribes from big steppes from Central Asia. They came with Mongols to Europe in XIII century and some of them settled eventually in the Eastern Europe. There were citizens of Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Kingdom and still some live here. (very simplistic way to explain that, so apologies to all Tatars if you are reading it 🤤).

So interesting. I am Polish (grew up in Canada and Korea) so i have never seen this Andre. But it did remind me of tartar though i've only seen it in a plate and not in this packaging. This was so interesting for me to watch and your infatuation with it and kury makes me smile hehe. Thanks for visiting Poland and bringing some memories. I will follow you on IG :)

Meat used in metka should be good quality because it is eaten raw. Raw beef metka with a spreadable texture. The characteristic taste and aroma of the metka are given by the spices used, such as: pepper, garlic, onion and paprika. An excellent product for sandwiches, also recommended for the preparation of tartare. You should try GOOD QUALITY from a GOOD restaurant something called 'tatar wołowy'. (beef tartare)

Also try a traditional Polish dish called "tartar". Similar to this. It is spiced minced meat. It is served with chopped onion, pickled cucumber and egg yolk. I also recommend trying the Polish " Paprykarz Szczeciński " in a can . I like it very much. Also worth trying traditional dishes that you can see on the Christmas table are "peas with cabbage" and creamy mushroom soup with dumplings. You've already tried bigos which I also like

Hi Andre. I was previously commented on one of your earlyer video about this meal, that with egg yolk. Its called Bewsztyk tatarski (Beefstake tartare) in english i think, or if you ask for TATAR wolowy everybody will know what you mean. Its served with egg yolk, marinated white mushrooms, chopped onions and gherkins. in some of restaurants aditionaly served with anchovys.

Hello Andre. The food with the raw meat and egg..you can commonly find in slovak restaurants as well….even in czech. You have to look for tatarsky biftek. Normally its a mix of raw beef meat with several ingredients and its served on toast bread. I really recommend to try..enjoy!

Hi Andre. We have 3 kinds of metka. Cebulowa, tatarska and łososiowa. I saw this spread in Stokrotka store. In my opinion "Tatarska" is the best.

Name of that meal is tatar wołowy with egg yolk and sometimes red onion and pickles. And u can find it in almost every polish restaurant, but i recommend u to try it in finer restaurant where u can get the best quality meat.

Dear Andre, I would like you to invite the city of Khive in Uzbekistan. That's a really ancient city and it has special raw meat preparation by chopping. This is an ancient traditional thing that is only available in this city, nowhere else. You should definitely visit there and you will really enjoy that. See you in Uzbekistan!

2:25 a dish on a wrapping is a Beef Tartare bro. Kinda traditional thing in Poland. It's a raw beef, usually served with raw onion, pickles, sometimes with vinegar mushrooms, salt pepper and an raw egg yolk as a topping. Pretty good stuff tho, if it's well made and with fresh ingredients. U should be able to try it in a many places, not only traditional/local ones (or wannabe like that). Try it with my grandfather sos recipe: spoon of horseradish (chrzan) and spoon of mayonnaise (majonez) combained, with pepper and salt to taste. (suggest more pepper). Of course on good bread.

Name of this delicious meal with egg yolk, fresh raw sirloin, onion, and chopped pickles is "tatar", or "befsztyk tatarski". You can get it in traditional polish restaurants, or in the steakhouse

You must try the tripe. It's cow's stomach soup. You have to ask in which restaurant they are prepared well. This soup may vary in different regions of the country. I also recommend beef tongues in horseradish sauce or kidneys in cream sauce. You also try kindziuk(Kindziukas). You should like it. Kindziuk is a Lithuanian and Poland matured sausage made of meat, fat, salt, pepper and garlic. The ground meat is traditionally pressed into a pig's stomach or bladder, but today may be contained in other skins. The sausage is dried and cold-smoked.

You can go to any Polish shop in UK and ask them for metka tatarska or tatar, all of the shops got it. They can also order it for you, then you have to wait couple days😊

Andre, you can try Tatar in vodka bars in most large Polish cities (e.g. "Pijalnia wódki i piwa" and many others ). Cold vodka is also there :D

André, tatar is always beef meat and comes from the tartars who put the meat under their saddle during long trips. Metka is commonly found is south-western parts which have preusian influence. In Germany it’s called Mettwurst and is pork exclusively.

the poles around here in toronto buy the metka or german mettwurst and shape them into hamburger patties and fry them up quickly on the pan so that the outside is crispy but the inside is 'medium rare' , and then eat it on a hamburger bun with whatever veggies and toppings you want try it, its really good as the saltiness concentrates on the crispy parts

It's an easy way to to cheat on the burger 😁 Just make a little patty and fry on lard... I like to make it with onion, few spices and breadcrumbs coating, it's yummy. But raw it's great too

It's suggested way of serving as steak tartare (not sure if you ever tried) but um if you like metka then you would love polish steak tartare with all the trimmings and yes we crack raw egg in middle ;)

There is a third type of metka to try: METKA ŁOSOSIOWA. The wierdest one - in my opinion. "Łososiowa" could make you think that it is made of łosoś (salmon). Well... no, it's not xd Only the color is like salmon and thats why it is called "łososiowa".

Metka cebulowa is made of pork with onion. Metka tatarska is made of beef. Usually they are made from good quality pieces of meat, like bacon or beef ligave. Smacznego!

You may need to know metka is some kind of cheap alternative of kiełbasa surowa polska, which used to be a bit harder consistency than meat spread, but still not as that dense as other sausages. Anyway finding proper kiełbasa polska surowa nowadays is a miracle, cause every market sells under its name nothing even close to good old polska's. I remember when my uncle (old retired butcher) was arguing with my dad about these two meals once on Christmas Eve when I was young and that's why I remember this theory so well lmao

Hi , if you like it try Tatar (metka tatarska) but do it diffrent. you need metka, onion, peper, raw egg and polish indigrent spice magi and ogórek kiszony. get a bowl then give there metka raw egg some peper , a bit of magi spice (is very salty so watch out), choped in small pices onion and ogórek kiszony (fermented cucamber). mixed well and eat witch some bread with good polish butter (masło osełkowe). i think you will be can not stop eat ;) Enyoy Smacznego ;)

Metka Tatarska is generally higher quality than Metka Cebulowa because it is raw beef instead of raw pork (cebulowa). The highest quality meal of this type is Befsztyk Tatarski - Beefsteak Tartare. A raw lean beef or horse meat (even better), raw egg yolk on the top, spices like salt, pepper and some very important extras for different taste: pickles, raw onion, capars, chives... can be many, many more. Also nice with a bit of soy sauce and olive.

In the restaurant you need to ask for a Tatar - this is on the picture on the metka TATARska. Not all restaurant serve this kind of food cuz is raw and chef need to know how to do properly but in major Polish cities you can find this.

I'm Polish and I'm very fussy with food and I always thought stuff like tatar, metka, smalec, golonka are disgusting but you made me try metka now. Because I always thought it was too plain and no texture, I like to crunch and chew not only feel the paste in my mouth. Never thought about adding garlic to metka but mustard, powdered paprika and onions sound like a good idea.

You have to taste Tatar, raw meet with raw egg, cumbers, onion and vodka :) BTW I love yours video, can not wait for a new one.

Usually Tatar is the best of the meat grinding down. Schabefleisch it's called in German.

Tatarska is an adjective made of noun Tatar, originally Tatar people were a tribe of turkish people who tried attack as in the past from south. But they must have brought to us this meal like minced raw meat which we call after them Tatar. Or perhaps it is a joke, because we turned this villains into grinded meat on the battlefields :) who knows.

One of the polish traditional dish is metka cebulowa with a little bit of nutella on top. you put this on crackers and eat like a chips. When you will be eat this you must say: "mmm to się fajnie tuszy. pozdrawiam konona"

Metka cebulowa is made from pork meat and onions. Metaka tatraska is 100% beef. My favorite👍

Tatars is an umbrella term for different Turkic ethnic groups bearing the name "Tatar". Initially, the ethnonym Tatar possibly referred to the Tatar confederation. That confederation was eventually incorporated into the Mongol Empire when Genghis Khan unified the various steppe tribes. Historically, the term Tatars (or Tartars) was applied to anyone originating from the vast Northern and Central Asian landmass then known as Tartary, a term which was also conflated with the Mongol Empire itself. More recently, however, the term has come to refer more narrowly to related ethnic groups who refer to themselves as Tatars or who speak languages that are commonly referred to as Tatar. The largest group amongst the Tatars by far are the Volga Tatars, native to the Volga-Ural region (Tatarstan and Bashkortostan), who for this reason are often also known as "Tatars" in Russian. They compose 53% of the population in Tatarstan. Their language is known as the Tatar language. As of 2010, there were an estimated 5.3 million ethnic Tatars in Russia.
