You’re Sea chest is actually a overboard through hull “captain” PVC lumber can be glued together with the same glue that glues PVC pipe, I’d also cap it with a pc of aluminum or S/S due to compression from the weight of the door.... The table looks GREAT !
@tryingnottosink91074 жыл бұрын
I wasn't sure about the PVC glue. Good to know. We are very happy with how the table came out. I was once told it was called a sea chest because multiple pumps and drains go into the box and the box itself has a through hull for discharge. The reverse of what an actual sea chest does. But I'll take you word for it. I do not remember who told me that anyway.

Just after my two pumps, I have an quick release attachment for a garden hose from the dock and a shut off valve above the fresh water flush. I shut the sea cocks off, two pumps, change the strainers and put bromine in them, shut off the five units one at a time on the manifold and flush high pressure fresh water through the units every week. no mud, no salt and all five work awesome. If you've got 40 year old air conditioning equipment. It uses refrigerant that isn't even made anymore. It uses freon which has been banned. If you have some that was manufactured before the ban you can still use it. Newer systems use R410a refrigerant. We had a family friend that had air conditioning equipment that was installed in 1981. It was a good air conditioner and almost never broke down but the problem is when it leaked out refrigerant about 5 years ago. There was no refrigerant available to recharge it. They ended up having to replace the whole system and I see you're getting into that situation yourself. And something is 40 years old and you can't get parts for it or find refrigerant for it. Often times fixing something can be far more expensive than replacing it especially how things are mass produced these days. However when you're dealing with airplanes or ships. The parts are even more expensive and components are more expensive..
@tryingnottosink91074 жыл бұрын
Fortunately, we have two tanks of Freon that were purchased by a previous owner.

Why not just replace the condensers that are defective in the engine room.
@charlieodom91074 жыл бұрын
I believe it is a cost issue. Realistically, he would want to change both units together, and those old lines...I would want them replaced as well. With the other unit, it is cheaper and all together so it should be less issues down the road. I see more package units these days over the split systems on all but the big boys, but they typically use water chillers instead.
@tryingnottosink91074 жыл бұрын
Charlie is correct. It just did not seem practical to put a lot of money into repairing a 40 year old air conditioner. We love the new one, cold and quiet.
