Tschaikovsky's musical pieces never disappoint . So powerful , emotional, dramatic and epic. Pathetique Symphony in B minor , no. 6 is really a masterpiece. Who says classical music cannot be dark?

Great reaction to a fine performance. Enjoying seeing some appreciative reactions to classical music. The explosion in the middle of the movement is a wonderful moment, and your response did not disappoint. For sheer orchestral virtuosity and excitement the third movement of this symphony is a must, and the fourth movement is very dark and unusually slow for a finale, and the part most associated with the composer's imminent death.

I love this. Your appreciation for the conductor too makes me want to turn you on to Gregiev conducting the Firebird. It’s about 45 minutes. But if you want just a piece I might suggest the brief movement right before the Danes Infernal through to the end. Because you need the lullaby. And obviously the ending.

For the main theme of the first movement, I always hear "I love you more than words can ever say" then at the end, a piercing "But I love you..."

My favourite and most dramatic symphony I can think of is Symphonie Fantastique by Berlioz. He conceived of it while high on opium. There is a whole story that goes along with it, that he actually distributed at its first performance, based on his obsession with a woman who was a famous singer (or actor?) The best movements are the 4th - March to the Scaffold - where he sees his own execution (you hear the head bounce when he's beheaded), and the 5th movement - Dance of the Witches Sabbath, as he goes to hell! It's wild, yo. I've been obsessed since music history as a teen, through uni as a music major (composition), and even now - I just love it even more. The piece of music is just as awesome as the story behind it. I'm in love with the whole thing. ❤

It would be great if you could hear the Waltz of the snowflakes or the Pas De Deux both by Tchaikovsky, or space to Rachmaninov piano concerto 2 (any would do really but i prefer 2) or my personal favourite Shostakovich's string quartet no.8 (but he is more of an aquired taste) or Dvorak's 9th symphony. The Rach and the Dvorak are fairly long though.
