Honestly one of my favourite bikes i've seen sofar n the GCN Bike Checks. It feels for me like most of the other bikes might have another handle bar wrapping and other colourways, but are the same again and again. Not so with this. The Chainkeeper, the Spacers or the rims show what he actually needs and wants. Great bike!

I really liked the color-consistent stem on his bike. It matched so well with his frame. It would be awesome if GCN tech provided links in the description or the video comparing the training bike to a rider's race bike. We could then compare training versus race choices.

Hired something very similar in Mallorca this year. Breathing on the pedals would move you forward. Great bike and amazing brakes

How did it compare to your own bike?
@RossTheNinja6 жыл бұрын
Hydraulic Vs not disc brakes made a huge difference on the descents, as I got up to fairly high speeds with much more confidence. I don't have di2 at home so the changes were nicer. Unfortunately it was a little wasted on me as being Mallorca, I spent most of my time in one gear, crawling up the climbs.

Nice bike and well presented video, of course, Jon. but I wish we could have some stats on the riders, at least their height so we have a better idea of how they compare to the rest of us with all the other numbers for the bike. I was looking at recent GMBN videos about Sam Gaze and Anton Cooper, and knowing their size in relation to their bikes (they are about a foot (30cm) different in height) made all the difference to understanding their gear choices. We were told their heights in those videos, and it really helped the choices make sense. A side on shot of the rider on their bike would also really help to see the position they use on the bike.

Cheers Andrew, lad you enjoyed the video. Thanks for the suggestion, we will see what we can do 👍

@oreocarlton33436 жыл бұрын
no it isnt if we are speaking about closed race surfaces, some riders on TT bikes today even ride 23mm on front
@oreocarlton33436 жыл бұрын
25mm is indeed faster rolling than 23mm (tested on carbon frames). But speed of whole bike isnt only about wheel rolling but also about aerodynamics, that is why 23mm is used on some modern TT bikes as front tire. Even 28 mm might have some rolling advantages (and even then the disadvantage of squirm in corners is bigger than on smaller tires), but bike industry is highly biased towards bigger tires since most frames cant fit a 28mm.
@philjono24626 жыл бұрын
Nice bike, but I would of thought that his mechanics would of hidden the junction box for him. All the cables around the front end ruin it more than the spacers for me.

Handlebar height is one of those strange cycling decisions where ideology (marketing?), vanity, and practicality get conflated. I do understand that a) in this case he's a pro, so there are major performance expectations and b) lower front end = less aerodynamic drag and c) some people are really flexible and can ride that with no issues. But I think most might agree that there are some weird ego things happening too, where a lower stem/more extreme position is somehow associated with being tougher or "more pro." I guess I see a problem when getting lower on the front end becomes aspirational in itself rather than just the best position. I even find myself thinking "man, maybe I should remove a spacer" despite having no good reason to do so. **This is just a thought I have been having about this more than a comment on this bike or video.

Why did you measure saddle height from the tip of the saddle instead of the usual way of measuring to the top along the direction of the seat tube? How do you correlate this measurement to the way you have measured every other bike? There is no consistent conversion factor because saddle geometry is a variable that can't be accounted for.

A Trek Emonda with alloy wheels, disk brakes, inner tubes, and powermeter yet it's still lighter than Alexis Ryan's Canyon Ultimate from last week. Also this is a 56 cm frame as opposed to x-small of Canyon! I'm still baffled by why this is the case!
@mikicastan6 жыл бұрын
Arash Fallah Emonda is flexy frame. Madone is much better option. Bit heavier but much more aero and stiffer
@ArashFallah6 жыл бұрын
What are you smoking? First of all, what's your reply got to do with my comment? Stay on topic! I'm comparing the weight of two bikes not the stiffness of two separate bikes! Secondly, who says Emonda is "flexy" and on that a SLR version too? I'm sure if it was good enough for Alberto Contador for whole year, it's more than good enough for us regular folks. Also, did I talk about Madone at all?! Again what are you smoking, let me know; I want to see the world you're experiencing!!
@mikicastan6 жыл бұрын
Arash Fallah Calm down bro! You sound frustrated... abstaining? Emonda is light and flexy,because of that i mentioned madone...
@ArashFallah6 жыл бұрын
Again dude, what are you smoking? Not a single review of Emonda has mentioned it being "flexy" and once more time did I ask for your bike suggestion? Go read my original comment, digest it, sit on it over night and then come back and tell me how madone or Emonda's stiffness relates to my original comment.

The Emonda is not flexy at all. In fact it apparently has a Goldilocks amount of BB deflection around 55 newton/mm.
