All I see is dollar signs. Crazy how a manufacturer defect is a cost upon the consumer.

And crazy how consumers are paying higher "carbon " taxes, yet manufacturers are allowed to create unreliable engines, that cause more plastic pollution and more scrap and garbage. There should be new laws that guarantee the manufacturers are not making unreliable engines.

Just sold my 13 yr old BMW 530D (240K km) as it's too small for the kids in the back and get a 1 year old Skoda superb with this engine. I hope it will also last 10 years! I hear you about Mercedes, I was in a taxi that was near it's 2nd engine overhaul but at 750,000KM the only problem it had was some noise from the wheel bearings that the owner knew could be changed quite cheaply. Merc's are SOLID cars. New (ish) skoda has near E-class legroom but I cross my fingers on VAG group...

The issue is actually really really small for the amount of work, it's the piston rings. Unfortunately, you need to take the engine apart to replace them so it's just better to overhaul it as you're already in there. VW upgraded the pistons and the rings after 2014.

My strong advice to all TSI users is to always keep the engine revs above 2000 rpm. It is very important! Those engines hate low rpms.

Worked at VW Chattanooga manufacturing plant, bought a brand new ‘15 model Passat, and it started burning oil profusely at 80k miles. I was told that was normal, just keep an eye on it and change the oil regularly, topping it off between changes. The engine made it to 148k and blew up right before this past Christmas, lost all compression on the #3 hole. Lean condition caused by excessive oil consumption caused a hole to burn through an exhaust valve in that cylinder. Pulled the head and all the cylinder walls are trashed, the coolant that filled one of the cylinder bores leaked right past the rings and into the oil pan before it could even be sucked out with a shop vac. Sucks that we paid this thing off and was going to hand it down to our son for his first car but now it’s just a junk pile. No one wants to work in it, no one here in the US seems to rebuild these engines. All I’ve been told is to replace it with a new or used unit. Can’t see spending more than the car is worth to do that. When I look on FB marketplace all I see are blown up Passats for parts, don’t seem like you can hardly give them away. What a shame, $25k down the toilet. Should have bought another Chevy. We just replaced this car with a new Mazda today, hopefully have better luck with it.

Dealer, won't help, even if you have a warranty. You'd first have to pay a fee for an oil consumption test, then they still end up taking your car to a 2rd party workshop like these featured in this video I'm also struggling here with my Audi , I'm basically used 4 litres oil over 1500km (ok, driving hard though) but it's more embarrassing than anything else, Clean Audi that smokes uphill You actually better off taking your Audi to one these approved 2rd party workshops that can service or overhaul your motor and still charge on the warranty, excess of R80K which the warranty might not completely cover

as a owner of a 1.8tsi leon II i agree with most of the video. TBH the engine is awesome when it works fine. The oil consumption issue can be mitigated with frequent oil changes with good quality oil. I really think that VW overestimates the service intervals. 15k km is just way too much, and sometimes they recommend even 25k km. On my car the previous owner changed the oil every 10k with very good quality oil, and the first thing i did when i bought it was a oil change with a good engine flush. At 90k the car uses about 1l of oil every 4k km.

Go to the netherlands (google for it...) and maintain the engine in case of oil consumption. Costs of about 3 K€. Now after 40.000 km I can assume no oil consumption any longer and engine runs perfectly. The question is what of these services in the video above are necessary and which of them are nice to have. Finally in my case I spent 3 k€ instead of 7 K€ estimated by Skoda and I have to admit the guys in the netherlands are experts. They do only this kind of work every day.

Makes one wonder why it took them 5ys to correct the issue. 2009-2014. I actually did a total rebuild on a 2009 2.0 Audi A4 and mow has 30k miles and no oil leak or burn issue. The number one problem is the oils change interval should never be more than 3k. The carbon in the oil does a lot of damage. They won’t admit to this but this is a key factor.

That's a lie that TSI/TFSI engines consume oil because of pistons construstion. They start eating oil because of too long changing oil intervals. Almost every engine will start oil consuming if you change oil just every 15 000 km. Oil control rings and drainage of pistons just get coked. And usually professional decarbonization is enough to fix oil consuming. Change motor oil in time (depends on your use conditions: warm/cold, traffic jam or highway and many another factors) (usually 5000 - 8000 km) and engine will work many hundreats km with no oil comsuming. I checked it on some hundreats VAG engines with endoscope, client's feedback and laboratory and express spectral analyzes of used oil.

@michalbrenda7879 3 жыл бұрын
@@willemkanon4020 ok, so let me give you an example: you have that engine issue in your Skoda/Seat/VW/ Audi and you have to do something about it. For around 2900 euro you get your engine completely refurbished + timing chain, spark plugs, engine oil and filters replaced. Basically you are getting a new engine without it's manufacturer's fault + 24 month warranty with no mileage limit for the fraction of the price of a new engine. And a peace of mind. Or, as you would prefer, you go to eBay etc. and buy a used engine (for half of the above amount), with lower mileage you have no idea what state it is in, with no warranty or if you get lucky, maybe a couple months or so with all the problems it may cause in future (and you know it will, you just don't know when), pay the mechanics to replace it and wait for that day when all the shit goes down. Because the bean counters at VAG headquarters did the math and realized the braindead consumers and badge whores that fall for the upmarketed "audi" rebrand will keep on throwing more cash at them than they will lose due to some costumers buying into other brands.

Bardzo dobry film. Jakosc uslugi 1000 % profeski. A mam pytanie moze co 2 albo 4 wymiane oleju uzywac plukanki przed wymiana oleju i po sprawie. Odgruzuje sie pierscien olejowy i zacznie nie brac oleju. Szkoda ze koszt uslugi to regen. Silnika i koszt pojdzie pod dobre 15 do 21 tys. Ale jakosc uslugi macie zacna. Fajny lektor angielski ddla promocji. Wery good video. Quality of maintance 1000% profesional. J got a question what if in ewery 2 to 4 time with oil hange yuse engine flush liquids. Its should eliminate the cause of pistons engine rings to eliminate the cause of stucking. And eliminating the extra oil taking. It is sad that you need to do whole engine regeneration to be 100% shure engine will not fail after regeneration proces performed by thr workshop. And the initial cost of reg. Of engine will be counted in thousands of polosh zl or euro or other money curency if someone intrested in this procedure. Love english lektor for promotional purpose of workshop. Sory for english gramar j speak much beter english that i write. Newer studiet english gramar. Lerned english from cartons haha

Those cars are worth 30-40-50k$ new, and 10-15-20k $ used depending on mileage and year, so rebuilding the engine for 3-5k$ is reasonable for some cars and people, this rebuild done right will last until the car rusts completely and is thrown away.

Repair is always cheaper than replace. The problem in our societies is that waste has become so huge, people can always benefit from what others have discarded. If people held on their cars for life, and fixed everything until no longer possible (this is, there wasn't a constant surplus of used cars because people get bored and just decide to buy another) people would never complain of the expense of a service like this.

I live in a place with high labor rates. $100 usd/hr is a common rate for your average garage. A specialist like this could easlly charge $120-200usd/hr. For me to repair my dad's 2011 2.0t q5 would cost more than selling it and then buying a Q5 with 3.0 supercharged engine or a X3 35i with n55 both of which are more reliable than the 2.0t. Not to mention produce 100 more horsepower. We have owned this q5 for 12 years and I have many memories of it. I learned to drive in this car and I took my license test in it as well. I would love to fix it but it's just does not make financial sense.
