MIke puts in the time and every vid I've seen of his is perfection. I can't believe or tolerate the negative comments here. I've been playing over 40 years and learned all these songs and they sounded GOOD. But, when I watch Mike, I woefully see that I had missed things here and there. Besides that, he has a deep love for this music as well as a perfect ear for it. I've never seen or heard better. You negative guys are just malcontents and don't have a clue . Wake up. Mike is the real deal and love watching him pick apart all the music of the Beatles. I'm in the early stages of learning guitar playing BUT I was at the prime age in my early teens to appreciate not only the Beatles but all the music that was happening at that time. I was a drummer so knew a bit about music. Difficult to interview a well known person and Paul kind of scoffed it away. your question and I would of felt BUSTED on his kind of casual reply. I would like to add my shoutout for Mike Pachelli. While I was never a Beatles fan (growing up in the Punk/New Wave era) I have spent the last month locked down in Thailand practicing 'I want to Hold Your Hand' and 'All My Loving' using Mike's tutorials. I like how John slides his voice seamlessly between notes almost like his voice is a fluid melting into the next pitch. He does that on other songs too and it sounds like he maybe hits some passing quartertones that give melodies some extra tension and texture.

I was a teenager when The Beatles exploded across America. I always knew that they were special but it took me years to understand just how musically innovative and inventive they really were. Their music seemed simple but it was actually amazingly complex, as I learned as a guitar student. They well deserve the title of Greatest Rock and Roll Band of All Time.

I was 10 or 11 and first saw them on the Jack Parr show singing "She Loves You". I was hooked and sI till am all these years later. Many have come and gone and influenced my playing but I still respect them the most for reintroducing us to artists in North America and for being so unique.

the more i learn about them...the more i see WHY they were so great TOGETHER. Each one of them naturally knew HOW to use the rhythm...the essence of the song and ADD to it with UNDERSTATEMENT and creativity. John with his rhythm guitar. George with his lead guitar, Paul and his bass and yes--even Ringo--maybe ESPECIALLY Ringo and his unique drumming style that was the glue and the perfect man for the job. My favorite parts of this song come from George's parts. I feel the real genius regarding the guitar playing came from George. He was a very young man playing at the level of a very seasoned guitar player. His instinct when it came to what a song needed was a step above most at that time.

I heard Peter Asher talk about how John and Paul wrote this on a piano and that Peter was the first person to hear it as they performed it to him side by side on the Asher family piano. In my opinion John’s bouncy rhythm emulates the way it would be played on a piano. Again great job here!

The guitar that Lennon used for I Want to Hold Your Hand was the Model 325C58, which he acquired in Hamburg, and which had an alder body. His preferred guitar was the 325C64, which he acquired in Miami in February 1964, and which had a maple body. Pachelli is using the Miami one. Most players find the 325 easier to play than a 25.25-inch- scale guitar. If you take a standard-scale guitar and capo on the third fret, then you've got the feel. I use GHS Boomer 50 36 26 15 18 11 for tension that matches 42 32 24 16 11 09 on a standard scale guitar. Lennon was the unsurpassed genius of rhythm guitar. This is a really good instruction video.

I agree totally with your comment about the importance of this song. To me I Want to Hold Your Hand and I Saw Her Standing There were the real game changers. This sound defined the early Beatles. The sound of the guitars and the harmonies were unlike anything we had heard before. Obviously there are many, many terrific songs in the Beatles history but these are the ones that blew them up. @@MPfrance I loved it! And I agree that this song probably wouldn't have been the hit it was without Lennon's great playing, I would say the same for Harrison's great playing. (I am pretty sure you'd agree) The parts of this song that stick in my brain are George's. The song is kind of made by George's little fills. What a band. I don't think it it's possible to remove any of the parts without diminishing the song by a significant extent. Just an astounding recording.

I would suggest that this is where George Martin played his part by showing embellished and chord voicings. Remember it was not that long that they had travelled to the other side of Liverpool because they heard that another guitar player new "B7"😳

What's TRULY remarkable about it all, is that, as far as the playing, certainly all four must have basically just 'jammed' all this and their other songs out; they didn't have to transcribe or read musical chords, they just "did it" - they were SO good, they could just come into the studio and create greatness just on the fly. Yeah, they may have had to do multiple takes to get a song right, but even THEN it was improvisation and just perfecting it as they played along, each one just knowing how to "answer" the other 3. THAT is how TRUE greats do it.

The Beatles made everything seem simple and effortless but they were always pushing boundaries and being very creative on guitar. Paul was supposed to be a guitarist but he stepped up when they needed a bass player. As a result, I feel Paul became a great bassist. He did play the guitar solos on Taxman, Good Morning Good Morning, and 1/3 of The End.

I am a 73 year old rock bass and 6 string player (long story).. and I enjoyed this informative video .. I Want To Hold Your Hand is the one and only song that it remember where and when i heard it for the first time. it was on my bedroom clock radio the may parent got me as even at an earky age, my parent recognized that I was into music.... and the alarm function insured that i i got up in time for school. Anyway...... i was listening to my favorite AM rock station that was broadcast out of NY City Suddenly this amazing song came on...... it was like nothing I had ever heard before an, I could not wait until i heard it again. Of course.... within a few days all rock stations were playing it and soon we learned that they were The Beatles and not Beetles . :)

Mike, sometimes it takes while for me to find sites such as yours. What a surprise when I stumbled upon you. I'm an old fart now (tho' still 21 y.o. inside), but was 11 y.o. in 1964 when the Beatles showed up on Ed Sullivan. I can only imagine how you felt the first time you heard "I wanna hold your hand." It was the same for me. You're so thoughtful to put out such thorough demonstrations. I've subscribed to lots of sites, but none as intricate and patient as yours. BTW, your tenor voice really makes it all come alive! Too bad you're in SOF, now. There's something about being an ex-pat which makes one's pride in America come out. Don't you think? Thanks for the hard work you must put in on the Beatles songs. The backstories help so much. A demain.

No, The Beatles made their times, they were not ahead of it- nobody can be ahead. Plus Beatles were influenced by many and varied styles and genres. That could be a good lesson- what one comes up with drawing from many wells at once. Music is today was a direct result of The Beatles. EVERYBODY had guitar in America after Ed Sullivan Beatles shows, or it seemed that way but everything changed in popular music.

Thank You...As a new guitarist I have been looking for a channel that focused on the Beatles because I believe they are a great band who's music should be learned first when diving into rock N roll as a musician. They paved the way for people like Elvis Presley, Jimmy Hendrix and every other rock and roller we all love. I figure they're music is the best to start learning first.
