I started listening to the Beatles during my freshman year of college after getting super tired of the generic "mumble rap" crap that everyone listened to. At some point I stumbled upon one of your "genius of _____" videos and that series motivated me to take up guitar myself. Two years later and I saved up enough to buy a made in Japan Casino and Rickenbacker 330 to be able to start truly emulating my favorite songs. Just wanted to thank you for all you do with your channel, you've certainly made a difference in my life.

This arrangement is very pretty and John would approve. I always wondered how Lennon was able to make every phrase and bar so pleasing to the ear. This and Day Tripper are examples of how uncanny he was at writing tasty riffs.

Mike, have you ever tried to play it on DADGBD tuning with Capo on 2nd fret? It becomes a richer and more rounded sound. I used to play it on standard tuning capo on 2nd fret, but no more. Btw, you can also play YOUR LOVE IS FOREVER by Harrison, same DADGBD tuning but without the Capo. Thanks for your videos!.

Your acoustic guitar sounded awesome. The ringing tones is perfect for this beautiful song. What I hear is an instrumental version but not quite how the song was sung and played. I play this song without Capo on the standard E major chord. My brother does the melodic riff on the upper frets and we both play in unison with me playing the E riff using open strings.

Nice one Mike! Get a Kyser capo, put it on from the bottom and don’t fret the fat E string with it. Do what you do here except leave the E string tuned as E. Play all the strings and you get a nice E drone all through the song.

Mike I love the way you break down the Beatles songs you dont miss a note and thats a make or break deal with us olde ones whos brains are hard wired with their music and expect to hear every note as its etched into our minds. And really what sets you apart for me is that you are also hard wired to their music ! I love it when you express that emotion just like we feel about their music ! No one showing how to videos of the Beatles on youtube expresses their enthusiasm their almost dead pan. But I mean your face just says " Aint this music so cool !! " I often wonder is it just me? Am I just biased about the music I grew up with Particularly that of the Beatkes ? Because I just feel that what they wrote was the gold stanard. But on iTunes I notice something perplexing . On certain albums you will note what songs are the most popular. And Iam assuming it must be indicative of the much younger Beatle fans by what I see. because they will chose a song that I dont care for. ( and believe me thats very rare usually its a song that wasnt on the US version of the album. And this will kind of blows me away ! and I think: " But hey! what about this one? You mean you like "'that'one " ten times more than the one I would of bet the farm on youd like ! So its that sort of thing that begins to make me doubt my own ears ability to know what really is good music. So then are we old guys and and the young ones really on the same page ? Do we extract something different from the music than the newer fans? And are we older fans just loving the memory ? Some people might say about me that "I think far too much about what dont really matter" but it does matter I sense a shift in what appeals to many, a moving away from melodies and harmonies and find fewer people to get together with and spend time listening to this kind of music. Anyway about the song "Norwegian Wood" its one of my favorite Beatle recordings with acustic guitar. There are certain places in a song where they will strum a chord that just sounds so .. and I dont know if Iam using the right vocabulary here But it sounds so full, fat, dynamic,, or maybe its majestic reverent and dignified ! They sure knew how to record a acustic guitar to its fullest. This sound Iam referring to of a powerful strum of a chord can be is herd in the song "Things we said today" So when recording this was it John who played the part you covered if so what was George playing ? Or visa versa , was it one of those duet things where two guitars complement each other? Like I have seen videos of you and a very close friend of yours do on a Beatle number. Oh man watching you do that looks like so much fun playing Beatle songs together especially when your that good ! Thank you Mike for the way you end your videos I really like it when you say "Thanks for hanging out with you " its such a cool thought and thats how you make us feel because your such a down to earth cool guy. I feel like lam back in high school again with my friends out in the garage trying to figure out them chords !

Cleve Hubbs - Thanks for the kudos - I appreciate it! re: your comments - Music is subjective - what's one person's favorite song may be another person's least favorite. There's no right or wrong on that. I don't think it has much to do with the age of those that may be downloading a particular song. Music is personal. What tugs at ones heartstrings is again - subjective. The fullness of the acoustic guitars on the songs you noted are due to double tracking and/or George and John playing together.

Mike, I had guitar lessons many years ago as a teen, but never got to the level of using a capo. Do guitar "purists" say it is cheating to use the capo? Or the way the guitar is constructed it is impossible or non sensical to play all 12 keys without using a capo?
@rager1969

The buzzing frets actually give it a bit of a sitar sounds, which is helpful for this song.
@MPfrance
@MPfrance 4 жыл бұрын
rager1969 - Fret buzzing never bothered me. I like low action and I think the buzz gives a guitar its own character. Sort of like a natural fuzz box for acoustic guitar! And when you know what notes buzz - you can use it for effect.
