Curious what you thing of the tune mapping. I sent mine in here in the states and have a few buddies as well with TPI's . On the 2024 TBI though the mapping made the bike into a 2 stroke again and you can feel the change between maps. Crisp and clean with power all around where as before it was a tamed down power and lacked the 2 stroke hit. I had a buddy ride the bike before the tune and he said it felt like a 4 stroke. I am sure this is emissions based but man what a transformation. - To all you viewers on here that have a TPI. I would recommend just a tune as I am on my 2nd cylinder on my 2020 TPI, the KTM stock tune in my opinion and my 1st cylinders opinion feels it does not get the oil injection correct. But Tokyo you don't have that problem on the 24 as you bypassed the oil injection. I might do this later as well. Thanks for the videos and walkthrough. Wish I had this a couple months ago.

Great Video, Thank you. However, with this head, do need to use racing fuel, or can you still use 91/93 octane gas pump? (in the U.S. premium gas octane ranges from 91 to 93 depending on what part of the country you are in. in my town we have 91, I believe in Texas its 93 octanes....). I know higher compression requires higher octane gas, otherwise you will have issue with "detention" resulting of possible engine failure, but since your compression didn't go up a lot, I'm guessing you can still use premium pump gas without needing to use racing high octane fuel, not 100% sure though.

did you go through the trouble of measuring the squish clearance? Ty for the vid!
@TokyoOffroad
@TokyoOffroad 6 ай бұрын
The squish measurements I gave in the video (Stock=1.8mm; TSP Med Comp=1.0mm) were taken by measuring the squish band of the head (I used a depth gauge). The actual squish clearance (distance between the head and piston in the squish region) will be dependent on the cylinder deck height. Typically I aim for a deck height of 0mm (piston top is flush with cylinder) and in my experience is how these bikes are setup by KTM in the factory.

Do you know if the stock head has a tolerance for warpage? I can slide a 0.0015 inch feeler gauge under one side of it when it's on a flat surface. 0.002 inch will not go. 0.038 mm equivalent. My head looked just like yours when I took it off at the 200 hour mark in my TPI. More buildup towards the exhaust port. Just not sure if it's warped on that side (which is where the feeler gauge goes in, only that side).

The only thing holding me back is that I do not want to cause premature crank/engine failure. What are your thoughts on how this mod will affect the longevity of the bike?
@TokyoOffroad
@TokyoOffroad 9 ай бұрын
I've been running an RK Tek head on my 2017 KTM 300 for over 550H. I did do a bottom end overhaul at 450H, but it didn't really need it. I think it would've been fine util 600H or more. I do a top end overhaul every 150H on the carb bike. The 2024 TBI (which I deleted the oil injection) I'll probably do a similar interval, unless it clearly need it earlier. For my use it hasn't been an issue. But always follow the head supplier's recommendation regarding elevation, compression, engine tune and fuel octane.

I’ve just fitted this kit to my 24 300 TBI and now the bike won’t start. I don’t have the erm just had the ecu mapped by tsp. Im not getting a spark and have tested several plugs earthed against the head. The battery is weak though as I think the trickle charger I was using is a dud! Have you any ideas?
@TokyoOffroad
@TokyoOffroad 9 ай бұрын
Yes, charge the battery. Also make sure the fuel connector is pushed together fully and the fuel tank electrical connector is plugged in correctly. My understanding is that if you don't have the spark plug installed, you won't get compression and the ECU will not spark the spark plug (crankcase pressure measured using the CCPS). Although I haven't tried checking for spark on my 2024 so could be wrong about this.

@TokyoOffroad
@TokyoOffroad 5 ай бұрын
Sorry to hear that. What octane gasoline are you using? I use high octane pump gasoline (100 RON) and haven't experienced any knocking during my riding (sea level to about 1500m). If you have the ERM you could try richening the fueling in that rpm range and see how it responds. If you don't have access to high octane gasoline and can't adjust the fueling then my suggestion would be to try the stock head (which is a little lower compression than the TSP medium comp head) with the TSP tune and see if the knocking goes away.
@TokyoOffroad
@TokyoOffroad 5 ай бұрын
I've just seen that there is an updated TSP map on the TSP ERM website (3BE-24-J, 16 April 2024), which may help with engine knock if you're using an older version. The version notes state: "This is the latest tune for the 2024 300EXC (XC-W). This tune has changes to the Green map compared to the previous 3BE-24-I tune. The changes involve adjustments to fuel, ignition and powervalve at low throttle and mid/high revs to reduce the engine knock that is experienced on some bikes in this zone. The Green map is the aggressive/tuned map. The White map is softer with more fuel, less ignition advance, slower powervalve opening and is better suited to hard enduro or slower technical riding. Can be used with the stock pipe and silencer or the FMF Fatty pipe. IMPORTANT: Set TPS to 0.40v with both red and yellow adjusters backed all the way out." I'm still using the previous version, 3BE-24-I and haven't experienced any knocking, but will upgrade to the latest version anyway to see how it changes.

Do you need to spend money on a great bike. No, but he has a great channel that he's building and the best way to do that is to install different things that have been proven to be exceptional on the market and then report back to his audience like they are there with him. I have the same bike, am an A class rider, and have done nothing to the bike except install a fan (which really don't need) Mousse bib in front an Tubliss in rear. Just because owners spend money on their bikes absolutely does not mean they require it...
