George This is why I am converting all my decoders over the Tsunami 2 I really like the way they sound and operate plus easy to change setting 's with a cv value.

First of all, I have used TCS, LokSound and Soundtraxx decoders. All are excellent decoders. All have pluses and minuses. That being said DDE is a pretty cool feature and personally I find it easier to use. Given there can be issues with consisting multiple decoder brands and my fleet is getting big enough now that I need to set up a consistent function map across all my engines. So standardizing on a single decoder is important. I also really appreciate the you tube channel and and how helpful Soundtraxx has been. I have emailed them several times over the years and they have always responded quickly. I have even called and talked to George himself. Then there is the sound car which I am not aware of anyone else having something comparable. All this adds up to Tsunami2 being my decoder of choice going forward.

It's entirely possible to put a TSU21PNEM Decoder to replace the decoder in the Atlas GP40-2's, not so sure about the SD35's or GP38/40 Loco's or any Atlas GE/ALCO Locomotive but I am sure most use the same type of speaker, the speaker in question is an atlas enclosed speaker, I would advise turning down the volume to 50% or lower (CV128 to a value range of 75 to 120) depending on the horns you want to use.

@@SoundtraxxDCC your very welcome, Atlas GP 40-2 COLW patched Ex BN loco no. 3057 Has a TSU21PNEM (old version) and I set the CV values to the following. CV120 = 16 (Holden M-3H) CV122 = 17 (EMD bell no. 3 at medium speed) CV123 = 5 (EMD 645 Turbo) CV128 = 75 (On my music program this would be 38% volume)

Love Soundtraxx just for this reason. F5&6 and DDE. ESU without their LokProgrammer is difficult to program. Full Throttle is hard to put into practice as George stated. You need to remember what speed step you set it at so when you turn off the FT you don’t jerk it. Using FT in a consist is a bitch.
@CentralJerseyRailfan4 жыл бұрын
It’s more cumbersome when you have locomotives with both ESU and Soundtraxx decoders. I prefer to use FT only on an all ESU consist

More non-Athearn engines have factory gotten ESU Loksound than factory TCS Wowsound, which is factory installed in Bachmann only as of now

Nice comparison. Seems like it's easier if you just use STEAM! LOL

I saw you answered the question regarding the shut down sequence. I have several engines with Tsunami, Tsunami2 and Loksound. I have not gotten into changing DCC settings yet but would like the engines to remain quiet when I turn on track power. What changes do I need to make to the Tsunami engines to allow manual start up when track power is applied? Why is this not the default for the Tsunami decoders? I have a WalthersProto H10-44 I want to upgrade with sound to match a sound version I have but want the engines to remain quiet when power is applied. If I can configure the Tsunami2 for the behavior, will purchase the Tsunami2.

Our CV defaults are based on what most customers will want or need. But, you can easily change this in CV 114. CV 114: Enable Auto-Start Add a value of 32 to CV 114 to allow the prime mover to start when the decoder receives track power. For DCC operation, the prime mover will not start when the decoder receives track power when auto-start is disabled. For analog mode (DC) operation, the prime mover will start when the decoder receives track power regardless of CV 114. Auto-start is enabled by default. soundtraxx.com/manuals/tsunami2-digital-sound-decoder Let us know if you need any more help! I do like DDE. One thing that the competitor has that I can't seem to find on Tsunami 2 is the shut down sequence. Am I missing something?
@SoundtraxxDCC4 жыл бұрын
You can start and shut down the prime mover, and elevate and reduce the engine RPM schedule manually with F5 and F6. Each time you turn on F5, the engine RPM will advance to the next level, from notch 1 (idle) to notch 8. Likewise, the engine RPM reduces each time you turn on F6. Turning on F6 when the engine is at an idle will shut down the prime mover. After the shutdown sequence, turning on F5 will start the prime mover and bring the engine to idle.
