Cegorach is an interesting character, as he is the ONLY remaining Eldar god. All the rest are either still unborn (Ynnead), shattered to fragments (Khaine), a prisoner of the Chaos Gods (Isha), or were slaughtered the day Slaanesh was born. Imagine what must be going on through his head. He before was the most intelligent Eldar god, but spent his intelligence on mere playful mischief among the gods and their worshippers. Imagine what happened in his mind the day most of the Eldar were devoured, and all his friends shattered, taken, or devoured as well. Imagine that intelligence, one to rival or possibly even EXCEED that of Tzeench, turned from minor mischief towards the protection of what few Eldar remain, the destruction of their enemies, and the ruination of Slaanesh. Think about that, and understand why Cegorach laughs. He laughs because it's funny. He has spent millennia setting up this joke, the ultimate joke, on Slaanesh. His anticipation of the punchline of this, his final, greatest joke, is too much to hold in, and so he laughs because he can't. The time of the punchline is nearly here.

He's survived this long due to living in the Webway, where nobody can find him, and by simply being clever enough that Slaanesh will never catch him. It also helps that if he ever does come under major attack, he's basically got the entire Eldar race at his back, who will be absolutely PISSED if Slaanesh tries to eat the last functioning member of their pantheon.

Oddly enough, getting into warhammer 40k has helped with my problem of always taking everything so damn seriously. I think that it's because even though the lore is super dark and serious, there's very often a funny or amusing side to it. It's helped with me seeing humor in annoying situations. We see him in the dark Library, writing fanatically his last mischievous plan to be blossom slowly through the upcoming millennials.

@@romanplays1 Not exactly. Hes emblematic of the mindset of the Harlequins and to a certain extend the other Aeldari. That being self-preservation. Just because there’s a bigger threat they’re fighting doesn’t make them ‘good’. The Eldar have a history of sacrificing other races to save their own skin, or manipulating others into fighting battles for them. Cegorach is no different. Without the unifying threat of Chaos or the Tyranids to contrast, the Eldar would look much worse.

Things are going well for Slaanesh, afterall Ynnead has a paltry following while Slaanesh has consumed trillions of Eldar. Slaanesh is on the brink of victory, when everything dissappears before it. Everyone in the warp and every follower of Slaanesh can hear the high pitched giggling of another, another who has been wafted onto this show's stage, he has finally entered the spotlight. Slaanesh has expected this all along, that Cegorach would protect another Eldar god. Thirsting and lusting after this weakling god has almost sent it into a frenzy, when the laughter stops and Cegorach speaks, his words booming. "There is a joke, a jest, but no trick, would you like to know it?" Slaanesh cares not for words or riddles, Tzeentch alone enjoys such things. Cegorach giggles as the truth slips from his curled, smiling, lips. "To kill the God of Death, is impossible, reborn she will be. To devour the God of Death, is impossible, you too shall be." It cut deeper than any carnal pleasure, a lie to be sure Slaanesh thought, but Cegorach would not reveal himself so plainly for such a fickle thing. A hiss came from Slaanesh, it was "Lies!" Cegorach could no longer hold it in, his laugh boomed over the screams of pleading deities consumed or enslaved by Slaanesh, once and for all everyone was watching his show. "Your turn to tell me a joke now." Slaanesh had no more patience, Cegorach was within her grasp, it was time to clear the pantheon once and for all. With all the power available to her, Slaanesh unleashed tendrils of warp energy beyond imagination, swallowing Cegorach whole instantly. The laughing god was finally gone, destroyed, never to laugh again. "You're dead, isn't that funny?" Slaanesh whispered, her voice heard across all of creation. Finally, she was supreme, all that existed now was the fledgling, dying, barely awake Ynnead. Before she could return again to her realm, the scene was revealed to her once more. Trillions upon trillions of laughing souls boomed around her, the unstoppable horde had overcome all of her power. She had not consumed Cegorach, she had consumed Ynnead, and it turned out to be true. It had been a joke, a jest, but no trick. Slaanesh was dying, the Thirster was destroyed by its own lusting for power. As the laughing drowned out her pleas for help, a giggle crept into her mind. And as she began to wisp into nothingness, Cegorach appeared again; the finale was all but over. Snatched from death's embrace by the laughing god, Ynnead lived again. "You're dead, isn't that funny?" Cegorach roared and laughter filled the realm of Slaanesh.

Cegorach's to me is the most HAUNTING entity in all of 40k. And yes, that is A HIGH FUCKING BAR. Like @GuukanKitsune was saying, he seems to see something that nobody else does, know something unbeknownst to THE ENTIRE GALAXY, something so hilarious that he just can't even. And that is the most haunting thing: what could he possibly find funny in the dark universe of the 41st millennium? And it's not like you can dismiss him like any crazy person. Like any mortal reduced to madness by the horrors of the galaxy. He is one of the MOST INTELLIGENT entities in the Warhammer 40k universe. This is not a broken mind, on the contrary. It's the mind of someone in full control, in control of strings so thin to go far beyond anyone else's sight, that even literal GODS can't perceive. In my mind, any sane mind would crumble in terror to the horror of 40k. But if you asked Cegorach, he'd answer that is not scared. He is amused. Confronted with all the hopelessness, the death, the horror, the eternal void, he can't but laugh. Whilst witnessing the hardest of struggles of heroes and villains, he laughs. While watching forces capable of crashing entire worlds and galactic civilization in the palm of their hand fight each other, he laughs. No matter if evil or good prevails, he laughs. No matter if people, innocent or guilty they may be, live or die, he laughs. For this entire existence is a joke, and at the end of all things, of existence itself, he is the one in charge of delivering the final punch line.
