I know Mike had brought up Tua's concussion issues an number of times and I support his concern 💯 We have seen too many football, players who stuck around too many years - like Aaron Rogers currently - who are in good financial shape but insharp decline and won't retire due to their ego.

Important caveat to remember about "guaranteed" money - it's generally only guaranteed against performance and injury; the Dolphins are not on the hook "no matter what". If the Dolphins were to release Tua of their own volition, they owe Tua the guarantees. If Tua gets hurt and goes on the IR, the Dolphins still owe him the guarantees. But if Tua _retires_ of his own volition, it's a different story - he would be leaving any *future* guaranteed money on the table and would possibly even have to return some of his signing bonus; how much if any at all is generally a matter of how magnanimous an owner wants to be. This is a safety mechanism in the CBA so that teams aren't screwed over by a player signing a huge contract and then riding off into the sunset with all that money. When Andrew Luck abruptly retired before the 2019 season, the Colts were entitled to recoup the money they had paid out to him for that season in advance, but *chose* not to pursue the issue (considering they were already under intense scrutiny for putting him in that position in the first place after years of letting him get pummeled behind subpar offensive lines). Tua's best option is a catch-22: he needs to be medically unclearable to play football to be entitled to the full amount of his guarantees, but by that point it would be too late considering his injuries are neurological (concussions), not mechanical injuries to his joints, muscles, and organs. As long as he is _clearable_ the onus is on him, in which case he is out on those future guarantees.
